The specification is based on Nordic pine (Pinus Silvestris) and plantation pine such as Pinus Taeda, Pinus Elliottii and Pinus Radiata. This specification can also be used for other pine species with similar expression and characteristics. About this specification The purpose of this specification is to enable coordinated expressions of products in combination with functionality and high material utilisation. 2 Solid pine Standard of glued solid wood panels and solid wood components 1 Introduction Solid pine is classified into five different grades: Grade 3, Grade 2, Grade 1, Grade Stained and Load-bearing Components: Grade 3, Grade 2, and Grade 1 are mainly for untreated, clear lacquered or transparent stain. Grade Stained is intended for non-transparent stain. The total surface of this grade shall be repaired/sealed to achieve acceptable surface treatment result. The grade Load-bearing components focuses on functional requirements of the product, such as strength of e.g. chairs, stools and bunk beds. Pine species accepted for Loadbearing components are specified in the product documentation. All wood shall be heated according to the requirements in ISPM 15 to prevent insects. Each grade is described with features and requirements (see section 4). Grade 3, Grade 2, Grade 1, and Grade Stained are also described with two illustrations of wood panels to visualise the expressions and features. Grade 3, Grade 2, and Grade 1 of plantation pine are also described with two illustrations of wood panels (see section 6). Solid pine components based on the grades Grade 3, Grade 2, Grade 1, and Grade Stained shall have the same expressions and features as wood panels. Due to variations of dimensions, the features may be adjusted to fulfil the required strength and function of the product. The adjustments are stated in the product documentation. Grading of each side of every part of the product is stated in the product documentation. Grade 3 shall be used on hidden surfaces, unless otherwise stated in the product documentation. Hidden surfaces are by default not stained. Use transparent basecoat to stabilize and seal the hidden surface. The wood panel shall have a uniform appearance, for example knots, colour differences, side boards and joints shall be evenly distributed. All repairs shall be professionally done and joints shall be glued and tight. The different types of joints are shown in section 7. The allowed type of joint for each product is stated in the product documentation. The dimensions stated in the joint figures shall be used, unless otherwise stated in the product documentation. 2 Illustrated panels The illustrated panels show untreated pine and the wished appearance of each grade.
