4 MIINUS IS A KITCHEN OF PRINCIPLE Less is more Sustainability has always been one of Puustelli s top priorities, and striving for a cleaner tomorrow is a never-ending process. Puustelli Miinus is a new kitchen range that is best in class when it comes to the environment. It is named after the principle of subtracting, which was the driving force behind the development process that led to the Miinus kitchen: we removed and reduced. Subtracting became our operational model that defines the manufacturing of ecological kitchens. The Miinus kitchen is a humble nod to nature, as each of its constituent parts has been examined and approved for the collection only after undergoing carbon footprint calculations and indoor air pollution tests. The development process took several years, during which each production process and life cycle of the materials including their sources and recycling was closely examined. The materials used in Miinus kitchens are as eco-friendly as possible and do not contain anything that cannot be recycled. The timber is sourced from certified forests and we only use natural oils and water-based varnishes and stains. The adhesives we use do not contain formaldehyde. However, as we could not find an ecological alternative for every product, we also developed something completely new. The leap Years of research and development resulted in a groundbreaking innovation: the completely recyclable Miinus frame made from environmentally friendly biocomposite. The material is safe, odourless, recyclable and so durable that we give our biocomposite products a 30-year guarantee. The frames are manufactured in one piece by die casting, and have holes for assembling and installing drawers, hinges, mechanisms and panels. The framework material has been tested and can withstand substantial temperature fluctuations and immersion. Thanks to their durable structures, these pieces of furniture can be dismantled, relocated and reinstalled multiple times. The biocomposite framework is a an innovation in the world furniture industry, so we have also applied for a PCT patent for this frame solution. Thanks to the lighter materials and having reduced the amount of materials used in conventional kitchens by half, we have managed to reduce the carbon footprint of the Miinus kitchen by nearly half. The lighter materials have also reduced the fuel costs generated by transporting the goods. The Miinus kitchen is clearly better! 4 PUUSTELLI MIINUS

7 DOORS The principle of subtracting is clearly evident in the Miinus door models. Only the finest natural materials have been approved for the doors surface material. The wood species used are birch, pine, oak and special veneers made of farmed and rapidly renewable wood species, such as poplar. The doors are not just beautiful on the outside, they are also smart on the inside, and like all the parts of the Miinus kitchen, the doors do not contain any unnecessary materials. Thanks to their honeycomb structure, the doors are lightweight and do not put any extra stress on the hinges and mechanisms. They are also light to handle and transport. The doors are manufactured in our factory and finished with water-based coatings or oil. The adhesives used in the assembly of the doors do not contain formaldehyde. 15 FRAMES The frame of the kitchen cabinets is a groundbreaking innovation that sets new standards for kitchen construction. The new material is a biocomposite, and the frames are manufactured in one piece by die casting. The frames have holes for assembling and installing drawers, hinges, mechanisms and panels. The framework material can withstand substantial temperature fluctuations and immersion. Thanks to their durable structures, the elements can be dismantled, relocated and reinstalled multiple times. Biocomposite screw holes do not loosen. The Miinus collection is compatible with LED fixtures and bases and shelves made from glass and OSB. Open shelves, side panels and footings are made of birch-veneered OSB boards*. Puustelli s Miinus kitchens are always pre-assembled, delivered to the customer s home and then installed. Subtracting today means a plus for tomorrow! * OSB (Oriented Strand Board) a three-layered board made of large crisscrossing wood strands glued and pressed together. 49 WORKTOPS Miinus worktops are made from wood and ceramic, both of which are ecological, durable and recyclable, meeting the Miinus criteria. The worktops can be finished in several materials and colours that match the Miinus door models. A wooden Miinus worktop is either oiled or finished using water-based finish coatings. Unfinished wooden worktops are also available for those who wish to finish the worktop themselves. The adhesives used in the manufacturing of the worktops do not contain formaldehyde. Maintenance Oil enhances the richness of the wood colour and grain while protecting the wood against stains and moisture. The worktop can be oiled if needed using a brush or a lint-free cloth. 50 CERAMIC WORKTOPS A ceramic worktop is made from the same minerals as natural granite, which takes thousands of years to form. Sand, feldspar, clay and natural pigments are natural minerals, meaning that a ceramic plate can be fully recycled. The surface of a matt and extremely durable, but only 7-mm thick, ceramic worktop is almost completely abrasion resistant. The worktop can withstand extreme temperatures and damp conditions, and acidic and greasy foods pose no challenge to it. The same material can also be used to bring a touch of colour to the wall panels. 51 SOLID WOOD WORKTOPS Wood is a renewable natural resource that takes up CO2 as it grows and stores it throughout its lifetime. As the life cycle of wood comes to an end, it can be converted into energy by burning it, which produces far less emissions than fossil fuels. 52 WORKTOP PLINTHS Plinths are used to support thin worktops. Sinks need adequate space, and the plinths also allow air to circulate in the cabinets. The worktop plinths are made of plywood and finished with birch veneer to make them more attractive. The adhesives we use do not contain formaldehyde.
