You can either draw all corner and end posts onto your sketch. Or alternatively measure the outside edge of the area. Now that your end and corner posts are drawn or your outside measurements taken, insert the distances on your drawing. With your measurements to hand you can now use our online quoting system or alternatively send in your drawings to sales@shsproducts.co.uk. What are you fixing your system to? Your Balustrade Dimensions When deciding on whether to buy and install a balustrade system it is essential that the system is fitted to a solid fixture ground. This includes wood such as composite decking, metal, brick or concrete. If this is not the case we cannot be held liable for the system being structurally unsound. Height & Width The maximum length between posts is 8ft or approximately 2438mm, we also supply a 6ft or approximately 1829mm length railing. 2438mm 1219mm WOOD Coach screws or Coach bolts We supply Key-Link posts in 38 high and 48 high varieties. The maximum height of your Key-Link post depend on the height of your chosen post cap. The example to the right shows the maximum heights and lengths of the Key-Link Posts and Railings. To 102mm determine the height with Caps fitted, please see below for cap heights. INSTALLING YOUR POSTS Your infill consists of pickets [also known as spindles] as well as your top and bottom rails. Lay your rails flat on the floor and fit the spindles into your bottom rail. Items supplied: Posts, Base Covers, Fixings. Top Rail Items needed: Battery drill, Marker pen, Masking Tape, Square bit. Mark out where you will be placing your posts with masking tape. Assembled Infill Key Link Post with Flat Cap Place your top rail on the floor next to the spindles and slot in accordingly. ATTACHING INFILLS TO POSTS Place your post on top and slide up your base cover. Proceed to mark the post fixing holes with your marker pen. Pickets Bottom Rail Items supplied: Brackets, square bit. The type of fixing used will depend on the ground you are fitting to. Fixture types can be found below. Items needed: Battery Drill, Pair of 50mm wooden blocks, Pencil WOOD drill 6mm pilot hole using 100mm stainless steel Place the two wooden blocks in the run line of your infill. coach screws Place the assembled infill on top. METAL drill and tap M8, use M8 x 50 stainless steel bolts with locking washers Mark with your pencil where the top and bottom brackets would be. Base Cover BRICK/CONCRETE drill 8mm holes to depth of 80mm, use 100mm stainless Placing your infill to the side and using your battery drill and square bit fix the top and bottom brackets with safety screws to the posts. Straight Top & Bottom Brackets steel floor anchor fixings Slot in your infill. Once you have re-positioned your post and inserted your fixings, slightly tighten your leveling fixings. Repeat this process for all posts and infills. Now check your post are level using a spirit level and adjust your safety leveling accordingly. Ball Cap ATTACHING CAPS TO POSTS ASSEMBLING YOUR INFILL Flat Cap Items supplied: Key-Link Post Caps such as Pyramid/Flat Cap, Ball Cap or Low Voltage LED Lights. Items supplied: Top Rail, Bottom Rail, Pickets. Items needed: Rubber Mallet Items needed: Battery drill, Marker pen, Masking Tape, Square bit. However long the infills are to your specific design, with our longest being 8ft, you will have to cut them down to fit into the brackets. [Note: when cutting your rails, be sure to cut the excess equally from both sides as this will not interfere with the spacing of the pickets. Other customers have successfully used two hacksaw blades simultaneously to cut their rails] Our Pyramid/Flat caps and Ball caps are both push-fit, meaning you will only require a rubber mallet to ensure they are secure. Fitting the Low Voltage LED Light will require fixing with four screws. Your light can be powered by either solar power or wired through the post. 6 Leveling Plate systems at Aluminium Balustrade Maintenance CARE & MAINTENANCE postlevelingplate SHS products range of aluminium balustrades and railings are made from IAS components, precision fabricated parts that go through tough multi-level Quality Assurance Program to ensure the highest standards, combined with a 5-stage powder coating system that meets the most stringent AAMA performance requirements for durability on aluminum extrusions coatings. Base Cover FASTENERS BC Fasteners do require regular maintenance. It is the responsibility of the Owner to inspect the fasteners once a year, as over time, they will loosen and need to be tightened down as necessary. We recommend a light coat of floor or car wax be applied to the tops of any exposed fastener every 3-6 months to help prevent oxidation, more often if you are located in a coastline environment that experiences high UV and salt spray (see below). Surface rust is a normal part of the fastener aging process. This will not affect the integrity or the strength of your fasteners. Flat Cap HIGH UV & SALT ENVIRONMENTS FC If the product is installed within one mile of a salt water coastline or any area prone to saltwater spray, a monthly inspection and cleaning of the aluminum surface is required to regain the products original luster and quality. PRODUCT CLEANING Ball Cap Your railing should be cleaned at least twice a year with a mild, non-abrasive soap and water, using a soft sponge (dry sponges may scratch the surface). In areas where salts and pollutants are more prevalent (beach front or industrial areas) then the railings should be cleaned more frequently. BLC Immediately rinse the product from top to bottom. Do not allow any cleaning solutions to collect, puddle or dry on the surface. Wipe dry with a soft, dry cloth. (Repeat above process for more stubborn water-soluble stains.) To remove minor scuffmarks or scratches, use mild/non-abrasive products. Certain household cleaners, abrasive agents, strong solvents, steel wool and industrial cleaners can cause damage to the finish and are not recommended. Low Voltage LED Light 4 For a protective wax finish, apply a quality brand car wax to the aluminum surface. For optimal cleaning, do not clean your railing system in direct sunlight or in temperatures too hot or too cold. LV.LED Always test on a small inconspicuous area before applying any product to your railing system. Use regular glass cleaner for glass.

7 systems at To remove paint or sealant spots use Methylated Spirits, Turpentine, White Spirits, Alcohol or Isopropanol. Remove any sap, tree seeds, bugs, etc. immediately as sun exposure and heat will make them more difficult to remove. NATURAL AGING PROCESS During the natural aging process of the powder coating you may notice a white chalk or powder that forms on the surface. This is normal and can be cleaned and polished to bring back the sheen. Minimal Horizontal Loads for Balustrades Barriers for the protection of people should be of adequate strength and stiffness to sustain the applied loads, without permanent deflection or distortion. In addition, a barrier that is structurally safe should not possess sufficient flexibility to alarm building users when subject to normal service conditions. Therefore, for serviceability considerations, the limiting condition for deflection appropriate for a horizontal displacement of the barrier at any point from its original position should not exceed the deflection limits determined from the relevant structural design code for the material used or 25mm, whichever is the smaller. Where a glass component of a barrier is subjected to imposed loads, the displacement of any point of the glass component, relative of its fixings, should not exceed L/65 or 25mm, whichever is the smaller where L is given in 8.3, 8.4 or 8.5.
