8 ZERO-JOINT EDGEBANDS RAUKANTEX plus and RAUKANTEX pro The success story RAUKANTEX laser edge continues with immediate effect under the name RAUKANTEX pro. With RAUKANTEX plus and RAUKANTEX pro, REHAU offers two edgeband solutions for zero-joint processing. These innovative edgebands can be used with all currently available zero joint technologies - without the need for technology-specific modifications. RAUKANTEX plus - RAUKANTEX plus makes zero-joint processing child's play. - Pre-coated with a coloured adhesive, this edgeband ensures a high quality zero joint finish for your component. RAUKANTEX pro - For zero-joint processing without compromises. - Permanent visual and functional zero joints are achieved with this 100% polymer, adhesive-free solution. - No adhesives. No glue line. 9 WITH FOUR ZERO-JOINT TECHNOLOGIES For a jointless look RAUKANTEX plus and RAUKANTEX pro can be used with all of the currently available zero joint technologies : laser, hot-air, NIR and plasma. Laser technology A laser activates the functional layer during laser processing. The layer melts and bonds permanently with the rough surface of the substrate. Laser technology is now used in many industrial production processes. NIR technology Thermal energy can be quickly and precisely transferred with near infra-red technology. This makes it ideal for activating the functional layer in REHAU zero-joint edgebands. Hot air technology Hot, compressed air melts the functional layer in the hot air process. Both commercial customers and smaller operations appreciate this technology due to the lower investment costs compared to laser technology. Plasma technology When a customer uses the plasma process, air plasma emerging from a nozzle melts the functional layer. The special layer liquefies and bonds permanently with the substrate and has no joints. 9

16 RAUKANTEX LITE Premium Collection: Translucent edgebands Indirect lighting Place LED or RGB tape in a routed channel in the MDF board and you're ready to go! RAUKANTEX lite is part of the RAUKANTEX magic 3D product family. In addition to the conventional use, the edgeband can also be used for backlighting. When the LEDs are switched on, the light shines through the transparent areas of the edgeband. With RAUKANTEX visions, REHAU combines the extraordinary look of real glass with the processing advantages of polymer materials. By applying a chamfer, a glass-like refraction is simulated, emulating the impression of real glass. 18 RAUKANTEX VISIONS Premium Collection: Glass-effect edgebands with V groove REHAU s V groove edgeband has a split design feature and is a particular highlight of the RAUKANTEX visions product range. Whilst the upper section of the edgeband is glass-coloured, the lower section is either stainless steel or aluminium finish. Whatever the application, the simple elegance of RAUKANTEX visions split design with V groove will enhance any design. Glass meets metal combine this edgeband with a gloss laminate in the same colourway and the illusion created is that of a real glass surface set upon a metal base. RAU-PMMA edgeband is therefore particularly robust and durable. Furthermore, the edgeband is UV resistant, lightfast, at least to level 7 of the wool scale to EN ISO , process B and can be incinerated or recycled. As a natural material RAU-PMMA is clear, whereby all transparent, translucent and muted tones can be adjusted. RAU-PMMA edgeband can be processed on all edgebanders. RAUKANTEX in the material ABS ABS is another member of the thermoplastic materials family for edgeband. This impact, light- and heat-resistant material can be recycled or incinerated. ABS is also chlorine-free. ABS is as easy to process as PVC and can be processed on all conventional edgebanders. RAUKANTEX in the material PET Polyethyl-terephthalate is a hard, highly transparent polymer material with good light fastness level 6 to EN ISO , Process B. RAU-PET is physiologically safe and in Cat. 2 of the PAK requirements and is also classified in the fire classification UL 94 HB. Processing waste can be incinerated or recycled. RAUKANTEX in the material PVC PVC is more versatile than any other material and has formed the basis for edgeband for decades: PVC. RAUKANTEX in PVC has universal material properties, which makes this material the most used edgeband material worldwide. PVC is easy to process, self-extinguishing, lightfast to at least level 7, has good chemical resistance, can be recycled and, if burned correctly, incinerated. Furthermore, PVC with its low primary energy consumption during manufacture and low environmental and human toxicity in water marks it as one of the more environmentally sound materials. 21

37 RAUKANTEX TOOLS Festool tools for edgeband processing Also suitable for mobile use CONTURO KA 65 edgebander, Mat. no Easy to operate and producing excellent results on both rectanglular components and complex free shapes, the CONTURO edgebander can attach edging to curves with an inner radius of 50mm and minimum outer radius of 25-30mm. Depending on the material, it s possible to attach edging with a height of 18-65mm and a thickness of mm. The CONTURO is suitable for the processing of all conventional types of edgeband, whether thin wooden veneer, polymer or melamine, and is ideal for manufacturing small batches as well as producing individual solutions that require the quick attachment of high quality edging, even on curved, convex or concave shapes.
