4 CORPORATE STANDARD FOR SVEZA PARQUET BIRCH PLYWOOD Specifications BIRCH PLYWOOD SVEZA PARQUET Technical requirements Effective since, 20 1 SCOPE OF USE This standard covers SVEZA Parquet birch plywood used as the main or auxiliary component in the production of parquet and engineered flooring with subsequent usage as the flooring material in public and private living spaces. 2 REGULATORY REFERENCES This standard hereby includes regulatory reference to the following standards: GOST Occupational safety standards system. 5 Note: While using this standard it is advisable to check validity of the standards referenced against the National Standards reference index. 3 CLASSIFICATION AND SIZES 3.1 SVEZA Parquet plywood is classified according to the glue joint water resistance as EXT/FSF, or plywood of increased water resistance of the glue joint, glued using phenol-formaldehyde adhesives; it is intended for indoor and outdoor usage. 3.2 SVEZA Parquet plywood could be of the two following types depending on the requirements applicable to the inner layers: SVEZA Parquet Standard (PST) and SVEZA Parquet Premium (PPR). 3.3 SVEZA Parquet Standard Plywood falls into two grades according to the combination of its face veneer grades: BB, CP, C, (Latin letters) and I, II, III, IV (Roman numerals). SVEZA Parquet Premium Plywood falls into two grades according to the combination of its face veneer grades: BB, CP, (Latin letters) and I, II, III (Roman numerals). The grade designator is indicated by both Latin letters and Roman numerals. 3.4 As for surface mechanical processing, SVEZA Parquet plywood is available sanded on both sides S2S. 3.5 Please refer to Appendix E for the Packing assembly scheme for SVEZA Parquet Premium plywood. 3.6 Dimensions Length and width of SVEZA Parquet sheets should be as shown in Table 1 below. 6 3.6.2 Thickness and number of plies of SVEZA Parquet plywood should be as shown in Table 2 below. 7 Birch Plywood SVEZA Parquet, EXT/FSF, ВВ/СР (II/III), Е1, S2S, 1525 х 1525 х 10 СТО TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Characteristics For core and face plies of SVEZA Parquet plywood birch veneer is used. Maximum allowed veneer thickness in the inner and face plies should be 2.0 mm. Minimum thickness of face veneers after sanding should be not less than half the initial thickness of the face ply In face veneers of the SVEZA Parquet plywood, wood flaws and processing defects that exceed the limits specified in Appendix A are not allowed. Terms and definitions for wood flaws and processing defects as per GOST and Appendix B In core veneers of the SVEZA Parquet Premium plywood, wood flaws and processing defects that exceed the limits specified in Appendix C are not allowed Cavities at the edges of SVEZA Parquet Premium plywood, caused by core veneer defects such as crevices or knots, are allowed within the limits suggested in the Appendix C for related defects. Cavities at the outer edges of SVEZA Parquet Premium plywood, caused by any other defect (not mentioned in Appendix C) should be not more than 5 mm in depth for each separate veneer SVEZA Parquet plywood is available in any combination of the grades mentioned in section 3.3 herein, depending on the quality of face veneers, except the C/C grade. 4.2 Formaldehyde release from SVEZA Parquet plywood into the room air must comply with the value specified in Table 3. Indicated moisture limits should be adhered when shipping the plywood from the manufacturer s warehouse 2. Shear strength along the glueline test has to be performed in various layers of adhesive as per agreement between the manufacturer and customer 3. Plywood samples preparation procedure for shear strength test is as follows: soaking in water (20 ± 3) С for 24 hours, boiling in water for 4 hours, drying in a vented cabinet for (16 20) hours, second boiling in water for 4 hours; cooling in water for 1 hour. 4. Percentage of destruction in wood is not determined 4.4 SVEZA Parquet plywood stock is taken in cubic meters. One sheet's volume is calculated without regard to rounding. The volume of assembled plywood 5

9 stacks and batches is calculated with an accuracy of m 3. The area of a plywood sheet is calculated with an accuracy of 0.01 m 2, the area of the sheets in a batch - with an accuracy of 0.5 m Marking is applied using indelible black or purple ink on the edge of each plywood sheet as a stamp or text without margins. Marking must include the following information: plywood type, plywood grade, manufacturer (number or name), - thickness and/or sorter number. Flat face should not be stamped. Edge stamp is placed in the corner of the transverse or longitudinal edge. For the plywood with a thickness of mm the stamp may be placed once for each (1-3) sheet. By agreement between the manufacturer and the customer, the following changes might be implemented: to not mark plywood sheets; to not include additional information in the mandatory marking. 4.6 Packing of SVEZA Parquet plywood The plywood should be packed in 400, 600 or 900 mm high stacks according to the grades, size and thickness. By agreement between the manufacturer and the customer, the plywood may be packed in stacks of a height other than that specified. The plywood in the stack should be placed in the same direction relative to the grain. The plywood in the stack should be placed so that the higher grade should face the top. 4.7 Packing and labeling of ready stacks of SVEZA Parquet plywood Packing of the plywood stacks should ensure their integrity and preserve the stacks during transportation Packing material is polyethylene film and/or stretch film along with the plywood covers and wraps The plywood stacks are wrapped using packing strip, with the protective angle pieces placed under the strip where it bends over the plywood stack edges Packed plywood stacks are to be placed on blocks. The blocks have to be affixed onto the plywood stack using the same packing strip Packing diagrams are provided in Appendix F By agreement with the customer, other types and means for packing the plywood could be used. 4.8 Packed stacks of SVEZA Parquet plywood should be labeled using 378 x 264 mm (A3) labels. The text is in Russian and/or English language: the labels are placed on two opposite and/or orthogonal side wraps of the stack. Both labels shall bear the same information. trademark; 6

10 product description with face veneer timber species; plywood dimensions and thickness; plywood type (EXT/FSF); plywood grade as per Appendix D; type of mechanical treatment used for the plywood face; number of sheets in a stack; working shift code; plywood production date; emission class; order No. as per Special Terms and Conditions (by agreement with the customer); manufacturer name and address; document, governing plywood manufacture; certification marks; quality control marks: handling signs: Keep Dry and Use No Hooks ; barcode (if a data collection terminal (scanner) is available). For more streamlined storage operations, additional marking may be applied using labels or stencils. 5 ACCEPTANCE RULES 5.1 SVEZA Parquet plywood has to be accepted in lots. Lot means a certain number of plywood sheets of the same grade and size. For each lot, a single supporting document has to be issued, containing the following information: trademark; manufacturer name and address; plywood mark; lot size; name of the process standard to which the plywood should comply. 5.2 Check of quality and size of plywood sheets has to be done by means of selective sampling and testing. Selective control of the plywood sheet is performed by means of blinded sampling as per GOST and in the amount stated in Table 5 below. 11 Up to ,200 1,201-3,200 3,201-10, ; 3.6.2; 3.6.3; Sample size Acceptance number Sample size Acceptance number Moisture, strength limit for cleaving through the adhesive layer, strength limit for static bending across and along the outer veneers, module of elasticity for static bending along and across the grains of the outer veneers should be controlled for each thickness and number of plies a minimum of once per month. 5.4 To control strength limit for extension perpendicular to the sheet surface, 1 sheet per 1,000 should be sampled, but no less than 1 per order. 5.5 For formaldehyde release control, minimum 1 sheet of plywood should be sampled every 7 days. 5.6 The lot is considered as compliant to the applicable requirements of the standard and are accepted, provided that in the samples: number of the plywood sheets not complying with the standard requirements in terms of dimensions, non-squareness, non-straightness, wood defects and processing defects, is equal to acceptance number stated in Table 5, or less. there are no sheets in the sample having blisters, ply splitting, bark patch; physical and mechanical parameters are compliant with the ranges set forth in Table 4; formaldehyde emission is within the limits set forth in the Table 3. 6 QUALITY CONTROL METHODS 6.1 Sampling procedure as per [1] [2], [6]. 6.2 Plywood length and width are measured at two points parallel to the edges, at least 100 mm from edges with a metal tape according to GOST 7502 with a tolerance of 1 mm. The arithmetic mean value of the two measurements is considered the actual length (width) of the sheet. 6.3 Plywood thickness is measured at least 25 mm from edges, in the middle of each sheet's face. The arithmetic mean value of the four measurements is considered the actual thickness of the sheet. The following devices are used for thickness measurement: - thickness gauge as per GOST with the scale unit value not exceeding 0.1 mm; - micrometer as per GOST 6507 with the scale unit value not exceeding 0.1 mm; 8

12 Thickness difference in one plywood sheet is defined as the difference between the maximum and the minimum thickness of the four measurements. 6.4 Out-of-squareness of sheet plywood Out-of-squareness in a plywood sheet is measured with a measurement square according to GOST Out-of-squareness is defined by the maximum deviation of the sheet's edges from the surface using a square and metal ruler according to GOST 427 with a tolerance of 1 mm Out-of-squareness may be also determined by the difference of diagonal lines of the sheet measured by metal tape ruler as per GOST 7502 with the scale unit value 1 mm. 6.5 Out-of-straightness of a plywood sheet's edges is defined by measuring the maximum gap between the sheet's edge and the edge of the metal ruler using a probe according to GOST 8925 with a tolerance of 0.2 mm. 6.6 Warping as per ГОСТ Moisture as per [3]. 6.8 Strength limit for cleaving through adhesive layer as per [4]. 6.9 Modulus of elasticity in static bending and strength limit as per [5] Formaldehyde release into the environment as per GOST and [1] Tensile strength perpendicular to the panel surface as per [6] Surface roughness as per ГОСТ Terms and definitions for wood flaws and processing defects as per GOST and GOST STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION 7.1 SVEZA Parquet plywood should be transported in closed vehicles according to the haulage rules applicable to the respective means of transport. Contact with moisture should be avoided during transportation in order to avoid changes in geometry, physical parameters and quality of the plywood, and in order to keep emission class stable. 7.2 Storage of SVEZA Parquet plywood The plywood must be stored indoor in stacks placed horizontally on pallets or on wooden shims, at a temperature between 40 C and +50 C and relative humidity up to 65%. 8 MANUFACTURER WARRANTY The manufacturer guarantees conformance of plywood to the quality requirements hereby if transportation and storage conditions are satisfied. The EXT (FSF) grade plywood guaranteed shelf life is 5 years following the day of receipt by customer. 9

13 If the plywood is to be used for further processing we recommend contacting the manufacturer for more details about the properties and specifications of various plywood grades and categories. 9 SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS 9.1 The content of hazardous chemicals emitted into residential or public building air during use of plywood products must not exceed requirements under items [7], [8], [9]. 9.2 Plywood must be produced using materials and components approved by the national sanitary and epidemiological inspection authorities. 9.3 Only persons age 18 and older with a clean bill of health are allowed to work in plywood production. Medical examinations are conducted according to the applicable instructions from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. 9.4 Personnel engaged in plywood manufacturing must be provided with personal protection equipment according to the applicable regulations under GOST Specific activity of Cesium 137 in plywood must not exceed sanitary limits set forth in [10]. 9.6 The standard plywood composition does not include raw materials or components classified as hazardous waste. 9.7 Plywood usually has a long service life, and there are a number of ways to recycle it. Plywood must be recycled according to applicable local recycling laws and requirements. 10
