2 About Thermo Panel is a building wrap, insulation, air and water barrier, mold inhibitor and cold bridge eliminator all-in-one. Delivering an R-value of up to 5 on the exterior sheathing. Having insulation outside moves the dew point further to the exterior wall which helps prevent moisture buildup inside the walls. This enhances a wall s ability to prevent water vapor from condensing inside the wall, and adds to a structure s internal energy efficiency. Applications Simply install directly onto exterior sheathing, such as traditional OSB, with roofing nails, 1 crown width staples or screws with washer. (Fasteners system depending on wind load and weight of the siding). This product serves a multitude of uses including flashing, flooring, roofing and decking underlayment. Its rigid surface allows direct installation of siding products. Simply screw, thinset or glue directly to its surface. Or apply one step, single layer stucco directly to the surface. Materials Thermo Panel is a water resistive barrier, consisting of a closed cell extruded polystyrene foam and reinforced by a rigid front surface of 1/8" layer non-combustible M4 composite Magnesium Sulphate board. Installation After the exterior wall sheathing is installed, such as OSB or our M4 board, apply Thermo Panels as follows: Thermo Panel must be installed in accordance with the instructions in this installation manual. The panel can be attached horizontally or vertically and the white rigid surface must always face outward. Install the panels with no gapping (ends and edges of the panels should fit tightly). Install panels so joints do NOT align with underlying sheathing. For OSB sheathing: tape Thermo Panels seams with waterproof adhesive tape as 3M All Weather Flashing Tape 8067 with minimum 2 width (or comparable). For M4 sheathing: taping of seams is not needed (Unless joints align. If joints align, then use the above flashing tape on the aligned joints). The panels shall not be less than 6 from the finish grade. Fasteners Nails with min 3/8 head, 1 width crown Staples or Screws with 2 washer as described herein may be used to attach the Thermo Panels. Fasteners must always attach completely through both the Thermo Panel and underlying sheathing and into the framing itself for a secure connection. Fasteners must be at least Hot-Dip Galvanized ASTM A153 Compliant and must penetrate the wood framing by 1.5 which typically means they must be 3 times (3x) the thickness of the Thermo Panel board. Locate the fasteners a maximum distance of 8 apart. Drive fasteners so heads are flush with the panel to ensure firm contact 2

3 with the panel (Do not countersink the fasteners). The Thermo Panels are not to be used alone as a base for nailing or screwing. Fasteners used to secure outer materials, such as finishing siding or cladding, must go through the Thermo Panel board and into the framing system. Light load use (nothing directly attached to the Thermo panel): Nails with min 3/8 head, 1 width crown Staples can be used, place nails or staples minimum ½ from perimeter of the board. Heavy load use (Stucco; or thinset with Fiber cement): Screws with 2 washer, at the board perimeter place the fasteners between the two boards. Stud spacing no greater than 24 o.c. Fastener distance as explained under Nails, Staples or Screws above. 2. Attach Multi-Panels Fiber Cement with thinset, glue, or screws directly to the Thermo Panel. IMPORTANT: Multi-Panels Fiber Cement has thermal movement of 0.12% so spacing of ¼ between boards is recommended (if the Fiber Cement board is 8 long). If using screws, follow above protocol for Thermo Panel along with the fiber cement s installation manual. Remember, if using screws then each screw must fasten to the structure s framing. Wind load must be considered when selecting the appropriate fastening mechanism (the project s Engineer must approve). 3

Stud spacing no greater than 24 o.c. Fastener distance as explained under Nails, Staples or Screws above. (2) Attach any of the illustrated siding materials. Remember, penetrating fasteners must enter framing as explained under Nails, Staples or Screws above. Cutting: Simply score and snap the panel with a utility knife from the front (white) side. Alternatively, it may be cut with a circular saw or jigsaw equipped with a diamond tipped blade. Sharp edges are made with fast running diamond tipped tools. Cutting to size may be done with normal slow or fast running hand tools or stationary equipment. When using fast running tools, dust exhaustion must be employed. Note: Using stationary saw equipment, cut the panels back side up (pink side) the saw blade must always attack the board from the back-side. Cutouts: Cutouts may be made with a jigsaw, a keyhole saw equipped with bi-metal, or diamond tipped blade. It is recommended to drill a min 7/16 (8mm) hole before cutting in the inside corner. In order to avoid creating a notch at the inside corner, cut edges should be sanded. 8

9 General Information Safety As for all other building materials, safety precautions must be taken into account and local laws and regulations must be observed. Cutting and drilling are subject to dust development, and proper precautions must be taken by using appropriate dust extraction equipment. Dust from panels is characterized as mineral dust and a prolonged exposure to this may cause lung disease. Fast running electrical equipment such as hand held circular saws leave a fine and sharp edge on the panels and provide fine dust. Due to the speed of the blade the dust is dispersed over a larger area. Therefore, it is necessary to establish sufficient exhaustion and it is recommended the operator carry personal safety equipment (for further information please check the MSDS for the product). Application conditions The board temperature and ambient temperature should be + 44 F (+7 C) - 86 F (+30 C) and relative humidity <85 % (optimally 60 %). Process temperature must be min +44 F (+7 C). Storing and proper handling Multi-Panels products are delivered with plastic protection cover on the pallet. If undamaged, the plastic cover protects against weather conditions during transportation. The plastic cover is for dust protection only and should be removed upon arrival at the building site. Hereafter the pallets should be kept under a roof, leaving the possibility of ventilation around the panels. Multi-Panels must be stored on a flat and dry level surface on pallets or sleepers with a minimum distance of 12 between the stacks on all sides. Note: Max. 5 pallets in a stack at the warehouse and on the building site max. 2 pallets in a stack. The board must be turned and lifted vertical up and off the pallet and not drawn over the next board. Lift pallet crosswise and set forks apart to minimize bending of pallet. Fork length must support pallet entirely; if required, use fork extensions. Impact by Pollution and Nature Weather and nearby vegetation may affect the appearance of the panels. Take caution to avoid pollution and leaves from trees, bushes, and flowers to not impact the integrity of the panels. 9

10 Warranty This warranty covers: The warranty covers the ASTM certification scope according to the datasheet for the product. Multi-Panels Corporation offers a warranty for a period of 10 years, beginning on date of delivery, provided that, the panels were cut/drilled/installed/used per the prescribed system components etc. according to the Installation Manual. The warranty does not cover: color fading, environmental impact on the panels such as pollution, etc. Replacement: Any panels which do not comply with the certification scope is replaced free of charge, ex works Los Angeles, on condition that Multi-Panels Corporation is notified within a period of 4 weeks of delivery and the claim is accepted by Multi-Panels Corporation. In particular, the warranty covers neither the transport costs nor labor expenses for dismantling and dumping defective panels and installing new panels. Multi-Panels Corporation shall not be liable for failure of performance hereunder due to force majeure.
