For years, the company has set standards in fastening technology. Our offer includes screws for installation in PVC; window and door fixings; frame and expansion anchors; fasteners for thermal insulation systems being an important element of passive houses; hardened screws and woodworking fasteners; self-drilling and self-tapping screws for steel sheets and roofing elements; mechanical and chemical anchors, metric bolts and screws, drywall anchors. Klimas Wkręt-Met sends its products to over 60 countries. The company started its operations in It was developed as a continuation of a family-run business dealing in production of plastic elements. Initially, it was a site of 300 square meters with several production machines and limited storage facilities. Much has changes since that time. Today, the company s production area covers over 50,000 square meters including a few production buildings and central high-bay storage area with a pallet racking system able to store over 24,000 pallets. The area intended for new investments covers as much as 100,000 square meters. Wkręt-Met was the first company in Poland to have been granted a European Technical Approval for building products in 2005 and today the company holds 20 such approvals. Our other products have national technical approvals. Those certificates, proved by the tests conducted by both Polish and German certification bodies, confirm that the products we offer are of the highest quality. At present Wkręt-met production has a host of facilities at its disposal including: over 100 injection moulding machines, 200 presses and rolling mills (which can be used to manufacture metric screws Class 10.9 and 12.9 as well as A2 and A4 stainless steel screws), modern tool shop with advanced machining centres, a twenty-first century quality control department. Our production facilities grant us independence at every stage of the production process. Our own facilities combined with high production capacity and quality control results in products which meet today's market demands. Our laboratory is equipped with measuring microscope, X-ray spectrometer, salt spray chamber, load capacity testing machine, Vickers microhardness tester, Rockwell hardness tester, torque converters, permascope and a number of other equipment, which allow us to: check and control paint and zinc coat thickness; check resistance of protective coating to highly corrosive environments; check hardness of the screw surface and body, thickness of carburized layer; compute the torque required for a given screw to be driven in; test the pull-out strength; compute rigidity of the support washer; calculate the time needed to drive-in a self-driving screw; and many others. 14 Innovative corrosion protection SQ ceramic coating POLISH PRODUCER Our screws are coated during the production process with a multilayer zinc-lamella coating, which is most frequently chosen in the automotive, construction, wind-farming and aviation industries. Anti-corrosion performance of this coating is several times higher than the traditional zinc coating and it has successfully passed ETAG 006 rigorous corrosion testing required for such screws - which guarantees anti-corro-sion resistance of 15 Kesternich cycles (1 Kesternich cycle = 24 h in changeable sulphur dioxide atmosphere). SQ ceramic coating is an environmentally friendly chrome-free multilayer coating, which consists of zinc-rich basecoat and aluminium-rich sealing coat. 42 INTRODUCTION Introduction Fastening of flat roof thermal insulation and waterproofing systems I. Basic information Roof slopes are exposed to weathering including: wind load wind-induced suction, shearing force, bending force exposure to rain rainfall snow load exposure to the sun UV radiation To prevent damage which is likely to occur on flat roofs it is essential that membrane and layers of thermal insulation materials be installed correctly. Correct installation of thermal insulation and waterproofing materials for flat roofs requires suitable fixings to be used on a given roof surface. It is also very important to apply appropriate fastener number and spacing in particular roof zones. II. Flat roof zones It is essential to use the appropriate number of fixings for particular roof zones of a structure, which always depends on the wind zone, structure s height and surroundings. Roof slope can be divided into four zones: corner zone outer and inner edge zones central zone. The appropriate number of fixings for particular zones will ensure fault-free and reliable roofing. Using too few fixings might result in the waterproofing membrane being damaged or even blown off. The appropriate number of fixings should be calculated according to the wind actions standard PN-EN :2008 (based on Eurocode 1) III. Requirements for fasteners According to the guidelines provided by ETAG 006 for fasteners for mechanical fixing of flat roof thermal insulation and waterproofing systems, fasteners must meet the following conditions: pull-out resistance, resistance to self-unscrewing of the fastener from the decking made from profiled roof sheets, resistance to corrosion according to Kesternich test (min. 15 cycles, DIN S standard), fastener impact resistance. According to guidelines the following fixing methods with roof fasteners can be applied: telescopic fixing (plastic sleeve + self-drilling or self-tapping screw) for flat roofs with thermal insulation systems, rigid fixing (steel washer + screw) for flat roofs without thermal insulation (for waterproofing systems only). IV. Flat roof substrates Guidelines for the use of roof fasteners provide for testing of the following substrates: profiled sheeting with thickness of mm profiled sheeting with thickness of over 0.9 mm 2 x 1.5 mm, concrete decking (concrete, lightweight concrete slabs), timber boarding (timber, plywood, OSB). Resistance parameters for roof decking are specified in technical approvals or guidelines provided by manufacturer. Application of fasteners that meet all the above-listed requirements and conditions will allow for long-lasting and reliable serviceability of a structure. 43 INTRODUCTION VI. Calculation methods for flat roof loads Correct calculation of the loads acting on particular zones of the flat roof should be based on relevant standards and regulations. All the necessary information on wind-induced suction values is provided in the PN-EN :2008 standard..wind actions.. the standard divides the area of Poland into three wind zones.
