4 Timber Selection Timber Selection Canterbury timber windows and doors can help you fulfil your dreams and capture that look and feel you really want for your home. Canterbury s standard range covers the most frequently selected styles in today s contemporary designs whilst maintaining the timeless beauty and warmth of timber. Canterbury carefully selects timbers that combine beauty with stability and durability. Our range includes Meranti, Western Red Cedar, KD Hardwood and pre-primed, laminated/finger-jointed Plantation Pine. All of these timbers have proven to be extremely durable over time and will deliver years of trouble free service. KD Hardwood is taken from Victorian forests under Government regulations. No old growth only regrown timber, kiln dried to create a more stable timber that will not twist or warp. All Canterbury Meranti and Pine timbers are kiln dried and organically treated to protect against decay or Borer/Termite attack, like our LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) treated finger jointed pine. Or if you prefer Western Red Cedar, you will benefit from the natural protection from the elements that this timber delivers. Canterbury Meranti, Kiln Dried Hardwood and Western Red Cedar timbers can be painted or stained to suit your tastes. Natural beauty and grain adorn these timbers, with Meranti being highly dent and warp resistant. But if you want to paint your windows and you want a beautiful finish, you can t go past pre-primed, laminated/finger-jointed plantation Pine. This timber has been engineered, kiln dried, laminated (where necessary) and finger jointed to provide a highly stable and environmentally friendly timber that will deliver a high quality finish. But the best news is that these modern timbers, combined with the latest technology coatings, will deliver you many years of trouble free service. And, over time, if you decide to change the look of your home, with timber you can, simply and quickly. 14 Screened Bifold Doors Screened Bifold Doors A Canterbury Screened Bifold door is a perfect solution to maximise indoor/outdoor spaces providing seamless transition from inside to outside, uninterrupted views and efficient ventilation, whilst protecting your home and family from flies, insects and other pests. And now there are two screen options available. Flat Screen The Canterbury Bifold flat screen is smooth to operate and can be opened and closed with a touch of a finger. Unique Load Balancing Technology (LBT) frees the screen of heavy springs and latches, instead it uses only magnets and pulleys. The screen slides horizontally along its track until it comes to a smooth stop and, when not in use, slides back into its concealed housing. Tight Technology ensures that the mesh is always at its optimum tension, avoiding creasing, sagging and tearing, and if the screen is bumped out of its track by wind or contact, the screen will automatically reset itself by retracting back into the cavity. Retractable Pleated Screen The Canterbury Bifold retractable pleated screen has been designed specifically for very large openings. Offering smooth and effortless operation, the retractable pleated screen features multiple stainless steel bearings across all friction points so that operating force is kept to a low 15N. The bearings not only reduce the force required to operate the screen, but significantly improve the life of the screen. The pleated screen is inherently stable and provides increased resistance to sagging. As with most Canterbury door products, the Screened Bifold door can be fitted with standard, toughened or laminate glass and can even be glazed for low noise or double glazed for superior energy efficiency. Key Features & Benefits Retractable Pleated Screen Refer to standard Bifold door for decorative bar options. Key Features & Benefits Flat Screen Horizontal rolling flyscreen that retracts into the wall cavity. Suitable for existing and new openings. (Screen cannot be fitted to an existing bifold door). Available in various timber species. Tight Technology leaves mesh straight, tight and at maximum tension at all times. Load Balancing Technology (LBT) smooth, easy and safe operation. Screen automatically resets if bumped or disturbed by gusts of wind. Available in open-out configurations only. PetScreen Lite flymesh. Size restrictions apply. Pleated mesh is particularly well suited for oversized openings. With large opening widths the pleated screen sits comfortably on the face of the jamb and does not require oversized canisters that need concealing. Each pleat at 20mm wide, set at an angle of 45 degrees adds stability to screen. Multiple stainless steel bearings across all friction points ensure effortless operation. Bearings contribute to significantly improve the life of the screen. Tensioning cords running horizontally across the opening provide stability to the screen and prevent the mesh from blowing out of its channel in windy conditions (able to withstand wind gusts up to 30kmh). Hardware can be matched to your Canterbury bifold door. Opening width size is not restricted. Trouble-free installation for renovation/alteration projects. 17 Care & Installation Instructions Pre-Installation Store in a dry location, under cover where possible, to protect against damage. Do not rack frames out of square. Prevent exposure to moisture particularly pooling or ponding. Do not remove bands from Double Hung Windows until after installation. Care and Maintenance Keep wet cement, mortar and brick cleaning acid from being in contact with timber or aluminium before, during and after installation. If accidentally splashed, wash off immediately with clean water, otherwise permanent staining or damage may occur, voiding the warranty. Do not use acid to remove mortar stains on window frames. Hose down brick work to remove residual cleaning acid which may leak out and cause damage to the finish later. Do not place windows directly onto green concrete slabs. Keep the tracks of sliding windows and doors clear of sand and cement droppings. Do not use window frames to support planks or temporary scaffolding. Clean up when the job is complete with mild detergent and rinse with clean water. Glass To clean, simply wipe over the surface with a few drops of methylated spirits on a damp cloth then polish the surface dry with a lint free cloth. Ensure that all cleaning cloths are free from any abrasive substances. Never remove abrasive materials such as mortar from the glass with a scraper. (To clean, flood with water and dab with a sponge. Don t scrub with sponge or scratching will occur.) Avoid causing extreme temperature changes as this may lead to thermal fracture of the glass (i.e. do not direct hot or cold water onto glass). Locks and Catches Keep locks and catches clean and free from blind cords and any other interference which may prevent proper operation. Painting Timber windows must have a first coat of an appropriate paint, oil or stain applied within 30 days of delivery. Fill nail recesses, lightly sand and clean immediately prior to the application of further coats. Re-prime immediately if primer coat is removed during installation. Paint manufacturers instructions must be followed in the application of all subsequent coats of paint. It is recommended to use light colours on all timber products to protect warranty. Do not paint over weatherseals. Primed products need to be lightly sanded before the undercoat and top coats are applied. Primer is not a substitute for an undercoat. Adjustments All products should be adjusted as required to maintain correct performance. Adjustment instructions are supplied with the product. Bifold Window Pre -Installation Instructions 1 A structural beam or lintel is recommended to be fitted above all Bifold Window units. 2 The lintel must be able to support the weight of the Bifold Window unit. Bifold Window units weigh approximately 22kg per m 2. FOR EXAMPLE A 1500mm x 2500mm Bifold Window will weigh 1.5m x 2.5m x 22kg = 82kg. NOTE Twin glazing will double the calculation. 3 Failure to comply with instructions may result in poor operation of the unit and could void the warranty. Bifold Window Installation Instructions 1 Fit flashing to sill and, where required, to jambs and head. 2 The complete unit must be installed square, plumb and level. Panels will not operate successfully with a bowed sill or a dropped head. 3 It is highly recommended that the Bifold Window head is fixed to a suitable lintel above.
