5 Introduction Panels, Hardwood & Cladding 5 There have been substantial changes in the panel product world. Environmental issues have had an impact on some of the exotic species that are available, and there are now a large range of decorative and problem solving products available. We have gone to great lengths to unsure that our supply chain has the required due diligences in place and the products are sourced legally and responsibly. Our range of stocked Panel Products has been increased and our added value services like CNC ing, Finishing and Machining has increased substantially but also Lacquering, Bonding and Finishing. We like to think that we have the one stop solution to your timber and panel needs. 6 6 Panels, Hardwood & Cladding Plywood Standards Plywood is a strong and resilient material suitable for a wide range of applications and finishes. The face grading, veneer species, construction and glue line all have a bearing on the overall performance of the panel. EN314/2 - This covers bonding and glue types and is split into three classes. 1. Internal Typically Urea Formaldehyde 2. Moisture Resistant - Typically Melamine Urea Formaldehyde (MUF) 3. External - Typically Phenol Formaldehyde. This is a very dark almost black resin. EN636 - Covers the overall performance and takes into account the veneer species and glue bond. Again, split into three classes. 1. Internal 2. External (Protected) 3. Fully external IMPORTANT NOTE The term WBP referred to the now defunct British Standard 6566 part 8. This has now been superseded by EN636 and 314. ALL plywood used externally must be protected from moisture ingress by a two part resin/acrylic sealant. Paint/varnish will help but will break down overtime and allow moisture to penetrate. Structural Plywood EN13986 and CPD (Construction Products Directive) From the 1st April 2004 it is a mandatory requirement that any wood based panel product permanently incorporated into building works complies with the requirements of CPD. Marking is not mandatory but all products must be compliant. The contents of EN13986 detail the essential requirements of CPD for wood based panels only. BS5268 part 2. Not very common these days but still used but can be used as a load bearing product. CE2+. Can be used for load bearing use but ONLY with the manufacturers D.O.P (declaration of performance).

Hardwood throughout Plywood Available in thicknesses: 3.6mm, 5.5mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 22mm & 25mm Sheet sizes: 2440 x 1220mm (Some thicknesses in 3050 x 1525mm) Glue line is Melamine Urea Formaldehyde Resin (MUF) to BSEN314/2 Class 2 and overall performance class EN636/2 FSC Hardwood throughout Plywood (Covers Branded) Available in thicknesses: 3.6mm, 5.5mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 22mm & 25mm Sheet sizes: 2440 x 1220mm Glue line is BSEN314/2 Class 3 and overall performance class EN636/2 Structural rated. This is made to Covers specification with a thicker face veneer and fully exterior glue. Marine Plywood Made with moderately durable or better species and in accordance with BS1088. Core voids are limited. From July 2016 all marine plywood will be third party accredited. Available in thicknesses: 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm & 25mm Sheet sizes: 2440 x 1220mm PLEASE NOTE: Gaboon Marine plywood is not a durable species. Available in thicknesses: 4mm to 40mm Sheet sizes: 2500 x 1220mm and 3100 x 1530mm Three construction options: Okoume Throughout Okoume Throughout (Thin veneers) Sapele Throughout One of the few plywoods globally to achieve the more coveted Lloyds Register, this plywood represents the pinnacle of plywood construction.

8 8 Panels, Hardwood & Cladding Plywood Range Birch Plywood Available in thicknesses: 0.8mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 4mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 21mm, 24mm & 30mm Sheet sizes: 2440 x 1220mm (Can be long or cross grained), 1525 x 1525mm & 3050 x 1525mm Birch has a multiply construction which makes a very strong and flat plywood. Great for furniture, flat bonding and decorative uses. We carry two grades in stock in certain thicknesses. S+ or B/BB Grade Grade with minimal defects on one side designed for clear finishing and decorative applications. BB/BB Grade This will have a solid face on both sides suitable for painting/bonding. All birch plywood from 4mm up to BSEN314/2 Class 3 and EN636/2, all other thicknesses to EN314/2 Class 1 and EN636/1. BB/BB Lacquered Two Sides Clear lacquered finish two sides 12mm, 15mm & 18mm.

21 Accoya Panels, Hardwood & Cladding 21 Accoya Accoya wood is the result of decades of research and development that has brought together a long-established and extensively proven wood modification technique acetylation and leading-edge patented technology to create a high performance wood, ideal for outdoor use and challenging applications. Accoya wood has properties that match or exceed those of the best tropical hardwoods, yet is manufactured using a non-toxic process and uses wood from sustainable sources. Already the material of choice for a wide range of demanding outdoor applications, Accoya wood can be used for virtually anything from windows to doors, decking to cladding, bridges to boats and even for applications that are presently only feasible with non-sustainable and man-made materials. Accoya is the future of wood. 22 22 Panels, Hardwood & Cladding Why use Timber for Cladding With timber being increasingly specified as the material of choice for exterior and interior cladding. We have produced this guide to show the growing range that Covers are able to offer. Timber cladding provides an attractive, versatile and durable external finish. Timbers environmental credentials are leading to increased usage on all building types. Appearance Not only does it look good, enhancing the external appearance of any building, it is more interesting and pleasing to the eye. The versatility of timber means it can be produced to almost any profile Durability Hardwoods and some softwoods such as Western Red Cedar, Larch and Douglas Fir are naturally resistant to decay. Less durable species such as European Redwood can be preservative treated to prolong life in service. Performance Along with durability and a long service life, Timber Claddings natural properties offer improved acoustic and thermal conductivity performance.

23 Thermowood Panels, Hardwood & Cladding 23 Thermowood is produced by heat treating grown European Redwood (Red Pine) to temperatures in excess of 200 degrees Centigrade. During heat treatment, chemical and structural changes occur within the timber which alter and improve some of its basic characteristics. The resulting product is an altogether more durable and stable timber, an ideal material for use in exposed areas such as external wall claddings. The Benefits of Thermowood Durability Performance The improved durability of Thermowood makes it an excellent material to use in the production of timber claddings and rain screens. The heat treatment process enables the use of Scandinavian Redwood in areas requiring a service life of up to 30 years without the need for a chemical preservative. Along with its workability, versatility and resistance to warping this makes it an ideal timber for outdoor applications without the need for preservative treatments. Western Red Cedar s rich warm colour and texture gives any building, inside or out, a touch of individually that blends naturally with the environment. With ageing and weathering Cedar gradually changes colour to an attractive silver-grey. Alternatively it can be treated or stained to individual taste. Lightweight and ideal for fast track building schemes, it is also more resistant to warping, twisting and shrinking than any other softwood. 25 Siberian Larch Panels, Hardwood & Cladding 25 A slow grown timber with a golden yellow colour and strong grain pattern. Unlike British Larch, the knots in Siberian Larch are light grey in colour and are less likely to fall out after Drying and Machining. Siberian Larch is very resinous and extremely hard, making it one of the toughest and most durable softwoods in the world. Therefore there is no need for further treatment. Ideal for use as a cladding where impact damage may occur. e.g. Schools, Public Buildings and Shopping areas.

Cedar shingles weigh one tenth of traditional roofing materials, resulting in less structural stress. Furthermore, their thermal conductivity is the lowest of any roofing material available - making for an exceptionally warm roof.
