1 Autodesk Inventor - For the woodworking trades - millwork, furniture, cabinetry Developing non-traditional workflows FB6079-V - Virtual Class Description: Expertise Level: Secondary Tracks: Learning objectives: This class will provide not only the techniques but actual working methods and workflows used with Autodesk Inventor for the creation of architectural content: furniture, cabinetry, millwork, and structural building development. The class emphasis will be on actual construction procedures, using the latest version of Autodeskk Inventor 2012, and many of the core development tools (ilogic, & additional developed software). Autodesk Inventor for the wood trades can accomplish tasks that usually take hours or days in a fraction of the time, and produce accurate results the first time around. However, it is difficult to use the Inventor method in woodworking design, since most parts of furniture are composite. For instance, a part consists of laminated particle board andd edge banding material. In fact, such parts are assemblies. They can be modeled as Inventor assemblies, butt it significantly increases designing time. Grain direction is also a very important to consider at this time 4

At the modeling stage one assigns common edge banding of different thickness. The real material can be used at this point but is not necessary at this time (thickness is most t important) ). Also one has to specify the edges that have to be banded. Edge banding thickness is taken into account when the BOM is generated. Assignment and placement of hardware and joinery (improvement) Rearranging and or placing hardware and joinery components in a furniture assembly is a time consuming with normal workflows, several of the developed tools allow rearranging multiple instances of hardware in furniture assembly by one operation. When hardware components are set, holes and machining for mounting of components are drilled automatically with tolerances, no need for projection of one part to another. 5

6 tion / Millwork,, Furniture, Cabinetry BOM generation (improvement) BOM for the woodworking industry differs from traditionall Inventor BOM. Many times we must be able to export to an Excel spread sheet or directly to a MRP system. It must also contain various forms of information necessary for furniture production. It may be the structure of the product, a summary of materials and purchased items (hardware), a plain BOM list, a list of cutting (thickness, width, length), list of parts with edge banding information or others. 6
