Product Data: Provide data for hardware accessories, if applicable. D. 2 1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Perform work in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Custom quality, unless other quality is indicated for specific items. B. Perform cabinet construction in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Custom quality, unless other quality is indicated for specific items. C. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing the products specified in this section with minimum seven years of documented experience. D. Manufacturer Qualifications: Member in good standing of the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) or the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC) and familiar with the AWI/AWMAC QSI. E. Quality Certification: Provide inspection and quality certification of completed custom cabinets in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Quality Certification Program. F. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Where fire-retardant materials or products are indicated, provide materials and products with specified fire-test-response characteristics as determined by testing identical products per test method indicated by UL, ITS, or another testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. Identify with appropriate markings of applicable testing and inspecting agency in the form of separable paper label or, where required by authorities having jurisdiction, imprint on surfaces of materials that will be concealed from view after installation DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Protect units from moisture damage. B. Protect woodwork during transit, delivery, storage, and handling to prevent damage, soilage, and deterioration. C. Do not deliver woodwork until painting and similar operations that could damage, soil, or deteriorate woodwork have been completed in installation areas. D. Store items at project site in installation spaces where possible. If woodwork must be stored in other than installation areas, store only in areas whose environmental conditions meet requirements specified in "Project Conditions." 1.07 FIELD CONDITIONS A. During and after installation of custom cabinets, maintain temperature and humidity conditions in building spaces at same levels planned for occupancy PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Field Measurements: Where woodwork is indicated to be fitted to other construction, check actual dimensions of other construction by accurate field measurements before fabrication, and show recorded measurements on final shop drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid delaying the Work. 1. Verify locations of concealed framing, blocking, reinforcements, and furring that support woodwork by accurate field measurements before being enclosed. Record ARCHITECTURAL WOOD CASEWORK (rev12061)

3 measurements on final shop drawings. 2. Where field measurements cannot be made without delaying the Work, guarantee dimensions and proceed with fabricating woodwork without field measurements. Provide allowance for trimming at site and coordinate construction to ensure that actual dimensions correspond to guaranteed dimensions COORDINATION A. Coordinate sizes and locations of framing, blocking, furring, reinforcements, and other related units of Work specified in other Sections to ensure that interior architectural woodwork can be supported and installed as indicated. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 WOOD MATERIALS A. General: Provide materials that comply with requirements of the AWI quality standard for each type of woodwork and quality grade specified, unless otherwise indicated. B. Wood Species for Opaque Finish: Any closed-grain hardwood. C. Wood Products: Comply with the following: 1. Medium-Density Fiberboard: ANSI A208.2, Grade MD 2. Hardwood Plywood and Face Veneers: HPVA HP ACCESSORIES A. Adhesive: Type recommended by fabricator to suit application. 1. Low VOC compliant with South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule #1168 in compliance with LEED NC v B. Plastic Edge Banding: Extruded PVC, as indicated on drawings shaped; smooth finish; self locking serrated tongue; of width to match component thickness, color as selected from manufacturer's standards. 1. Use at all exposed plywood edges. 2. Use at all exposed shelf edges, unless specifically determined otherwise on drawings. C. Fasteners: Size and type to suit application. D. Furring, Blocking, Shims, and Hanging Strips: Softwood or hardwood lumber, kiln dried to less than 15 percent moisture content. E. Bolts, Nuts, Washers, Lags, Pins, and Screws: Of size and type to suit application; galvanized or chrome-plated finish in concealed locations and stainless steel, or chrome-plated finish in exposed locations. Comply with ASME B F. Nails: Select material, type, size, and finish required for each use. Comply with FS FF-N-105 for applicable requirements. G. Anchors: Select material, type, size, and finish required for each substrate for secure anchorage. 4 inside face of exterior walls and elsewhere as required for corrosion resistance. Provide toothed steel or lead expansion bolt devices for drilled-in-place anchors H. Concealed Joint Fasteners: Threaded steel FABRICATION A. Custom Cabinets: As indicated on drawings. B. Cabinet Style: As indicated for each location. D. Cabinet Doors and Drawer Fronts: Not applicable. E. Drawer Construction Technique: Not applicable. F. Assembly: Shop assemble cabinets for delivery to site in units easily handled and to permit passage through building openings. G. Edging: Fit shelves, doors, and exposed edges with specified edging. Do not use more than one piece for any single length. H. Fitting: When necessary to cut and fit on site, provide materials with ample allowance for cutting. Provide matching trim for scribing and site cutting. I. Plastic Laminate: Apply plastic laminate finish in full uninterrupted sheets consistent with manufactured sizes. Fit corners and joints hairline; secure with concealed fasteners. Slightly bevel arises. Locate counter butt joints minimum 2 feet from sink cut-outs. 1. Apply laminate backing sheet to reverse side of plastic laminate finished surfaces. 2. Cap exposed plastic laminate finish edges with material of same finish and pattern. J. Provide cutouts for plumbing fixtures. Verify locations of cutouts from on-site dimensions. Prime paint cut edges FACTORY FINISHING A. Sand work smooth and set exposed nails and screws. B. For opaque finishes, apply wood filler in exposed nail and screw indentations and sand smooth. C. Finish work in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Section D. Prime and paint exposed to view, internal exposed to view and semi-concealed surfaces. Brush apply only SITE FINISHING MATERIALS A. Prime and paint exposed to view, internal exposed to view and semi-concealed surfaces. Brush apply only: As specified in Section PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Verify adequacy of backing and support framing. B. 5 3.02 INSTALLATION A. Quality Standard: Install woodwork to comply with AWI Section 1700 for the same grade specified in Part 2 of this Section for type of woodwork involved. B. Install woodwork plumb, level, true, and straight with no distortions. Shim as required with concealed shims. Install to a tolerance of 1/8 inch in 96 inches for plumb and level (including tops). C. Anchor woodwork including but not limited to cabinets to anchors or blocking built in or directly attached to substrates. Secure to grounds, stripping and blocking with countersunk, concealed fasteners and blind nailing as required for complete installation. Use fine finishing nails for exposed nailing, countersunk and filled flush with woodwork and matching final finish where transparent finish is indicated. D. Use fixture attachments in concealed locations for wall mounted components. E. Use concealed joint fasteners to align and secure adjoining cabinet units. F. Carefully scribe casework abutting other components, with maximum gaps of 1/32 inch. Do not use additional overlay trim for this purpose. G. Countersink anchorage devices at exposed locations. Conceal with solid wood plugs of species to match surrounding wood; finish flush with surrounding surfaces. H. Standing and Running Trim: Install with minimum number of joints possible, using fulllength pieces (from maximum length of lumber available) to greatest extent possible. 1. Scarf running joints and stagger in adjacent and related members. 2. Fill gaps, if any, between top of base and wall with plastic wood filler, sand smooth, and finish same as wood base if finished. I. Paneling: Anchor paneling to supporting substrate with concealed panel-hanger clips. Do not use face fastening, unless covered by trim. 1. Install flush paneling with no more than 1/16 inch in 96-inch vertical cup or bow and 1/8 inch in 96-inch horizontal variation from a true plane ADJUSTING A. Test installed work for rigidity and ability to support loads. B. Adjust moving or operating parts to function smoothly and correctly. C. Repair damaged and defective woodwork where possible to eliminate functional and visual defects; where not possible to repair, replace woodwork. Adjust joinery for uniform appearance. D. Clean woodwork on exposed and semi-exposed surfaces. Touch up shop-applied finishes to restore damaged or soiled areas PROTECTION A. Provide final protection and maintain conditions in a manner acceptable to fabricator and Installer that ensures that woodwork is without damage or deterioration at the time of Substantial Completion CLEANING ARCHITECTURAL WOOD CASEWORK (rev12061)
