When varnish is applied on parquet, a film is formed on the surface that fully seals the pores in the wood. This serves to better protect the parquet against moisture. A varnished parquet floor can be well-maintained with an all-purpose cleaner. Over time, a grey appearance may become visible in places where people tread a lot. This is a comprehensive reference work for the layman and craftsman alike. Still have a question? Contact us! We are happy to help and advise you SOLID OR MULTI-LAYER PARQUET? PLEASE EXPLAIN A solid parquet consists of a solid block of wood. A tongue and groove fit is then provided. Most people think that a solid board is the solution for parquet floors. But solid parquet is prone to shrinkage and expansion. For this reason it is often not recommended. However, if you accept that a solid board lives and can shrink or expand during winter and summer, there is no problem. Lamett s Vienna collection is the only solid parquet we use. Multi-layer parquet, also often called laminate parquet or composite parquet, is comprised of 3 or more layers of wood that are placed over each other at right angles. The top layer is hardwood (Lamett uses oak). This layer is at least 2.5 mm thick; those underneath are made of wood products based on coniferous or chipped timber material. Due to the right-angle gluing, there is minimal expansion etc. compared with solid parquet. Multi-layer parquet is much more stable. PARQUET IN THE KITCHEN OR THE BATHROOM? YES, BUT Parquet can be installed in the kitchen or bathroom but extra precautions are necessary. Therefore this tends to be discouraged by us. Experience has taught us that even with excellent maintenance and thorough precautions, it is very difficult to keep your parquet flooring problem-free in these areas. For this reason the Lamett guarantee does not apply to kitchen and bathroom installations. I I

For this reason, the varnish layer will benefit from an annual replenishment programme. This can be achieved with a good-quality polish such as Bona Wood Floor Polish. 3 golden tips: 1. Never apply water excessively on parquet! 2. Mop with lukewarm water. 3. Follow the dosage instructions for your maintenance products. Parquet can be combined with underfloor heating or cooling very well. The floor will keep looking good and your efforts will not be in vain, as long as you take a few things into account. Choosing a multi-layer parquet is advisable. The wood layers are glued at right angles to each other and this serves to virtually prevent any shrinkage or expansion. If combined with underfloor heating and cooling, it is best to opt for full bonding, otherwise you will get an insulating layer of air that makes the room more difficult to heat up or cool down.
