2 Please read these instructions completely before beginning the installation. Test fit all components (amplifier, etc.) before mounting. These instructions do not cover the installation and wiring of the amplifier. Professional installation is recommended for customers unfamiliar with car audio. It is critical that the enclosure be properly attached to the vehicle. A loose enclosure presents a serious safety hazard in the event of a collision, rollover, or sudden deceleration. IMPORTANT: It is possible that your vehicle may differ slightly from the vehicle featured in these instructions. VERIFY what is behind panels, clearance, etc. before drilling, screwing, cutting, etc. What s included: 1. Enclosure Base 2. Boot False Floor (Coupe or Convertible) 3. Speaker & Amplifier Grilles 4. (9) #4 x 3/4 Phillips Pan Head Screws 10. (4) Wire Terminals 11. (8) #8 x 1 Phillips Pan Head Screws (Black) 12. (4) #8 x 1/2 Phillips Flathead Wood Screws 13. (4) #10 x 1/2 Phillips Pan Head Wood Screws 14. (20) #8 x 3/8 Phillips Pan Head Screws (Black) 15. (2) Spade Head Thumbscrews 16. (2) Rubber Insulated Jacknuts 17. Jacknut Installation Tool What you will need: 1. Phillips screwdriver 2. 7/16 Socket Driver or Wrench 3. Drill 4. 7/16 drill bit 5. 1/16 drill bit 6. Amplifier and wiring 7. Wire stripper/crimper 8. Felt-tipped marker 9. Scissors or Utility knife

3 Prepare the Enclosure for Mounting 1. Install the Speaker Terminal Cup - Using the (4) #8 x 1/2 flathead zinc screws, install the terminal cup in the recessed hole in the front side of the enclosure. Drill pilot holes using the 1/16 drill bit. Do not over tighten the screws or you may crack the terminal cup. Use the wire terminals provided to assemble a speaker wire (not included) pigtail and connect it to the terminal cup prior to fastening it to the enclosure note proper polarity! 2. Attach the Mounting Brackets - Using two of the #10 x 1/2 pan head zinc screws, mount one angle bracket about 2/3 of the way towards the back of the enclosure (the front of the enclosure is the side with the terminal cup). Place the side of the bracket with two holes against the side of the enclosure (use the blue outline in the picture as a guide), and align the bottom of the bracket with the bottom of the side of the enclosure (the red line in the picture at right). Drill pilot holes with the 1/16 bit. Repeat the process for the other side. 3. Remove the Boot False Floor Mount the Enclosure in the Vehicle 4. Place the Enclosure in the Boot - The enclosure is designed to be installed with the subwoofer on the driver s side of the boot. On the front of the enclosure there are two vertical and two horizontal notches. Slide the enclosure forward so that the luggage strap D rings fit into these notches (only models will utilize the horizontal notches). The enclosure should slide down fully against the bottom of the boot. 5. Mark the Boot for Jacknuts - With the enclosure flush against the boot floor, use the felt tipped marker to mark a spot directly below the center of the single large hole in the bottom of each mounting bracket (if there are two holes at the bottom of each bracket, you have installed the brackets incorrectly. Refer back to step 2).

4 6. Remove the enclosure from the boot. 7. Drill Jacknut Holes - Alright my chicken-hearted MINI friends, brace yourself! Using the 7/16 drill bit, drill a hole in each of the spots marked in Step 5. Fear not, everything will be OK! For S Coopers: the only thing under the sheet metal you are drilling through is the heat shield for the exhaust, about 3-4 below the spot you are drilling. For non-s Coopers: the exhaust heat shield is below the passenger s side hole, and the left edge of the spare tire is below the hole you are drilling in the driver s side. DO NOT ALLOW THE DRILL BIT TO PENETRATE MORE THAN 1/4 THROUGH THE SHEET METAL. To prevent the drill bit from going any further than necessary to drill the hole, drill carefully and do not use excessive pressure on the drill. If you are not confident in your ability to stop the drill bit, cut a wood block 1/2 SHORTER than your drill bit, drill a hole through the center of it, and drill the hole using the wood block as a stopper. 8. Install the Jacknuts - Puncture the PVC covering on one of the Jacknuts. Insert the 1/4 x 1 Hex Bolt through the Jacknut Installation Tool (follow the instructions on the tool) and begin threading the bolt into the Jacknut. Insert the Jacknut into one of the holes drilled in Step 6. Holding the Jacknut/Thumbscrew assembly flush against the hole, thread the Thumbscrew until it can no longer be threaded by hand. While holding the assembly flush against the boot floor with the Jacknut Installation Tool, use the 7/16 Socket Driver to continue to thread the Thumbscrew into the Jacknut until it can be threaded no further. Remove the 1/4 Hex Bolt. The Jacknut should be solidly and fully gripping the hole (see picture at right). Repeat for other side. 9. Install the enclosure in the boot - Place the enclosure in the boot. Fasten the enclosure to the vehicle by inserting the Thumbscrews through the holes in the brackets installed in step 2 and threading them into the jacknuts. The thumbscrews only need to be installed hand-tight. To remove the enclosure, simply unscrew the thumbscrews and remove the enclosure from the boot. Install the Speaker & Amplifier 10. Install the Gasketing Material - Place the gasketing material along the flat inner edge of the enclosure s speaker mounting flange. Remove the kraft paper backing as you go. Using the scissors or utility knife, trim the excess so that the gasket ends seal together smoothly.

5 10. Install the Speaker - Carefully center and mount the speaker in the enclosure using the (8) #8 x 1 black pan head screws, or screws supplied with your speaker. Pre-drilling pilot holes with the 1/16 drill bit is recommended but not necessary. Tighten the screws until they are snug, but do not over-tighten. 11. Mount the Amplifier - Mount your amplifier in the amplifier rack. It is advisable to test fit the amplifier into the enclosure with the enclosure in the car before actually mounting it. The orientation of the amplifier and the routing of the power, signal, and speaker wires is at your or your installers discretion. NOTE: It is important that the amplifier mounting screws be no longer than 5/8 to ensure that the sealed speaker cavity is not punctured. If it is, it will only be a problem if the screw is removed and relocated, but it is advisable to avoid this situation. Install the False Floor 12. Install the Grilles - Using the (20) #8 x 3/8 pan head black screws, install the speaker and amp grilles in the boot false floor. Place the speaker and amp trim rings on top of the grilles. If you look carefully, you will see additional holes punched in the grilles that correspond to the screw holes in the trim rings. Line up these holes in the trim rings and grilles. Then carefully center each grille and trim ring over the proper hole. Note that there is a recess cut in the false floor below each grille to allow the grille to sit flush. If you apply pressure to the carpet with your thumb you will be able to feel the extent of the recess. You will need to be certain that you ve gotten the grille centered over this recess or it will not sit flush. Attach the grille and trim ring with the screws. Again, pre-drilling the holes is helpful but not required. If you do pre-drill the holes, be careful not to over-drill as doing so will damage the felt on the underside of the false floor. 13. Install the Recessed Bumpers - The recessed bumpers ensure adequate clearance for long-throw woofers and cooling and airspace for the amp and sub when the boot is fully loaded. Using the (9) Recessed Bumpers and (9) #4 x 3/4 Phillips Pan Head Screws, install one recessed bumper in each of the locations indicated by a red arrow in the picture belowright. You may find it easier if you pre-drill a shallow pilot hole using the

6 1/16 drill bit. Then insert one of the #4 screws through the recessed bumper and screw it to the enclosure. Repeat for the remaining bumpers. 12. Trim the Edging - Place the false floor on top of the enclosure. Due to manufacturing tolerances, each MINI is slightly different. To allow for this, the boot false floor is provided with a wide flange of excess carpet around the edge. Use scissors or a utility knife and hard surface to trim the excess carpet to an exact fit for your MINI. 13. Enjoy!! - That s it! Be sure to spend some time tuning amplifier gain & crossover settings to get the right sound for your MINI.
