The Christmas season begins in November, when businesses bring out their festive Christmas decorations. The downtown business windows begin to glow in their holiday finest, as each year visitors and folks in the community not only get to enjoy the window displays, but also vote on their favorites. If holiday shopping is what you desire, you ll be in for a Christmas treat browsing through several of our antique stores, gift shops, and thrift stores. You can even call ahead to pamper yourself in our full-service spa & salon. 3 Friday, Nov pm Festival of Trees 6:15 pm Light Parade 6:30 pm Mayor s Tree Lighting Ceremony Free hot drinks and snacks will be available. Light Parade and Mayor s Tree Lighting Plattsburg s Main Street will be aglow as lighted floats, characters, and even individuals are illuminated in the 2nd Annual Light Parade. It s hard to resist the magic of this beautiful light display, which is as much fun for the float makers and parade participants, as it is for the spectators. For best viewing, pick a spot between Broadway and Maple on Main Street. After the Light Parade, a brief musical program is held followed by the introduction of the Parade Grand Marshal and lighting of the Mayor s Christmas Tree in Pocket Park. Festival of Trees Step through a miniature forest of beautifully decorated trees in the 2nd annual Festival of Trees, showcasing a variety of themes. Organizations and businesses decorate a tree in the name of local charities. Nov 30th 6-8 pm, Dec 1st 10 am-3 pm, Dec 7th 6-8 pm, Dec 8th 10 am-1 pm & 3-6 pm Free Admission Before heading home, stop into the fully transformed Laclede Hotel Apartments Lobby and view the beautiful display of the Festival of Trees. It s the perfect place to soak up the warm Christmas atmosphere, sip a cup of steaming hot chocolate and taste one of the many goodies prepared by local hands. 4 Christmas Celebration Forever Christmas Bazaar During this unique celebration event, the Community Courtyard is transformed into a festive wonderland of twinkling lights, decorated trees, holiday blow-ups, local talent, door prizes, and space after space of artisan booths. It s a perfect place to purchase gifts for family and friends, as well as jump start your holiday spirit. Open all day from 9-4, this is the center of Plattsburg s Christmas activity. Stop by for information, register to see Santa, grab a meal or a snack, enjoy the holiday music and shop, but whatever you do, don t miss this one-of-a kind Christmas event! No admission fee. One of the Biggest Events of the Year! Cafe Noel & Sweet Shoppe Located in the Community Courtyard, these hot soups & chilis, hot dogs, homemade pies, desserts, and an array of other food and drinks will satisfy any appetite. Gift prices vary. Location: City Hall Penguin Patch The place where kids get to shop while parents wait. Helpers take your little ones to Santa s workshop where they can pick reasonably priced gifts for family members. Every child is adorable when participating in the Little Mr/ Miss Merry Christmas Contest. Each child displays their own brand of charm and Christmas spirit, and are judged on personality, holiday spirit, and overall Christmas style & attire. Age groups include: under 1yr (0-11 months), 1yr olds, pre-school (2-4 yrs), and kindergarten - 2nd grade. Pre-registration preferred but not required. No entry fee. Regardless of who participates or how simple or elaborate each entry is, Plattsburg s Christmas Parade is sure to be a treat for kids and Christmas enthusiasts of all ages. Find your favorite spot between Broadway and Maple on Main Street and pick your favorite entries as they pass by. Don t forget to watch for the real Santa-- he ll be at the end of the parade waving to you from the big red fire truck. Santa Visit An old tradition that has been brought back in recent years, this FREE event is a family favorite. The highlight of the event is getting to visit with Santa then smiling big for the camera in a photo opportunity. But while kids are waiting for their turn to speak with the man in red there s plenty other activities to keep them busy: face painting, decorating gingerbread cookies and houses, crafts, and refreshments. And just to make sure Santa remembers their requests, there s even a station for kids to write letters to the North Pole--just be sure to include your return address so Santa can write back! Black Light Puppets This variety puppet show uses a combination of puppets and black lights to create a unique performance of Christmas stories, appropriate for all ages. Each church on the tour presents a 20 minute Christmas program of their choice, which may include hand bell music, skits, cantata excerpts, pipe organ melodies, puppets, a band or many other forms of entertainment. After each program, guests move to the next church on the schedule, and following the last program of the day, refreshments are served. Tour of Churches is a free community activity sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance. Everyone is welcome to attend. 7 Friday, Nov pm Opening Night Saturday, Nov 3 10 am - 6 pm Show Continues 10 am - 4 pm Open House for Clinton County Museum & Downey House Free Admission Annual Holiday Art Show & Sale Creativity Abounds During this 13th annual event, the Plattsburg Artist Coalition presents a venue for artists to show and sell their work, as well as to educate the community about fine art. You ll find work featuring various mediums such as photography, paintings, art to wear, elements of nature, cloth designs, drawings and more. With it s graceful arch-ways and open floor space, the beautifully renovated Community Courtyard, formerly an 1850 s carriage and livery stable, provides the perfect backdrop for this versatile art show. Featuring fine artwork by area artists and coalition members, this exhibit has something for everyone. Featuring artwork by a variety of local artists and coalition members. Enjoy live entertainment and refreshments too. Riley-Carmack 1889 Two Open Houses will be held Saturday during the Art Show: the Clinton County Historical Museum (Riley-Carmack) and Downey House. Both homes will be open and decorated for the Christmas season, and both have free admission, although the museum does accept donations. Once inside, step back for a moment in time, where you ll find original woodwork & floors, transom and stained glass windows, a coal burning fireplace and more. Each home houses an array of furniture particular to the 1900 s era, and the museum holds many artifacts, toys, clothing and other displays. A must see on your trip to Plattsburg. Downey House 1900 s MARINE CORPS RESERVE Help a child... Donate a toy. Toy Collections in December will be held Saturday, Dec 1st at the Community Courtyard during the Christmas Celebration and also on Dec. 8th at Hartzell and Sons Construction. Bring a new, unwrapped toy or a monetary donation. Donations are used to distribute toys to needy children in the local area.
