27 MAKE YOUR OWN POSTER! Template 7.1 The machines time line! Materials needed A3 card scissors glue colouring pencils crayons or felt tips a long length of brown paper to stick pictures onto Teacher s instructions: 1. Put the students into groups and ask them to colour and cut out the smaller pictures. They should decide whether the pictures are from the past or are things which exist now. 2. Ask students to draw machines from the past in the small boxes: elicit some ideas and give them vocabulary such as a sailing ship, horse and cart, windmill, axe, quill, water pump, oil lamp, candle. 3. Then ask them to draw a machine they imagine from the future. Each group should keep their future machine a secret if they can. 4. Students colour and cut out their pictures and stick them onto the roll of brown paper for the whole class. They should stick their older things close to The past end and the now pictures in the middle. Then students can stick their imagined future machines close to the future end. Then students write what their future machine will help with (they should give it a title, too) and stick that by their machine. 5. Display the time line along the class walls. The past
