2 Process, Plates, & Paper Process 1. Printed items are designed by me, or I accept designs sent in vector form 2. Photopolymer plates are made using those vectors from Boxcar Press 3. Items are printed one at a time, one color at a time, one side at a time 4. Each piece of stationery is hand-fed by me as it prints The letterpress process is extensive & time consuming, which is why it is so much more expensive than the average printing process. But what you will have in the end is a beautiful impression made on specialty cotton paper. Plates I order Photopolymer plates from Boxcar press - they are one of the more expensive parts of the letterpress printing process. Separate plates are needed for each different color, each different side printed on, and each different piece of stationery. In order to get plates ordered, vector files are needed. If you are sending your own artwork, high quality files are recommended. When converting to a plate, vectorized images work best, but are not necessary. Paper In order to get the beautiful impression on the paper, a specialty cotton Flurry paper is used. I order paper through Boxcar press at two different thicknesses. 1 ply (118#) - used for all greeting cards, and are only used in the case of a one sided print. You will be able to see the impression on the backside of the sheet. 2 ply (236#) - used for all two sided prints. Can be used for one sided prints as well, it is the most luxurious of the paper options. You will not be able to see the impression from the front on the back of the paper. Paper comes in three colors: BRIGHT WHITE WHITE SOFT WHITE

7 Q & A Why can t I get double sided printing on 1 Ply paper? 1 Ply paper shows the impression on the backside, which means it will interrupt the impression you get if you try to press on the backside as well. Can you do foil printing? No, unfortunately my press does not have the ability to heat press foil. I am able to press metallic ink colors, but it will not be as shiny as foil is, and metallic inks are much more expensive. What colors can you print? Any colors you want! I am able to custom mix Pantone colors, so everything will match. Will you print designs that aren t your own? Absolutely! The prices in this guide include design as well. If you have something you want printed that you have designed yourself, the price of the product will decrease (this is dependent on the product itself). Why is letterpress so expensive? Letterpress is a very unique and old-fashioned printing process that takes a lot of supplies and time to complete. Not only is every piece of paper hand fed into the letterpress machine, but for every separate color or side, another plate is needed. Do you offer colored paper printing with white ink? Yes, I do. I have not found a suitable vendor for colored paper yet, but I can give quotes upon request. I also have not tried white ink yet, but I would love to offer this. Do you offer letterpressed envelopes? Yes, I will give quotes for envelopes upon request. Envelope printing will be for return addresses or design only, both on the back flap of the envelope or on RSVP envelopes. What is the biggest size you can print? My press only holds a 6 x 9 base, which means that is the absolute maximum size plate I can use is slightly smaller than a 6 x 9 - but currenly I am only offering x 7 printing unless approved as a specialty print with me.
