1 Dear Wright MS Parents, We are asking our students to read this summer. We would like them to build their reading stamina and develop reading comprehension skills so they can grapple with complex text in the upcoming school year. We recommend your child read for 15 minutes on Read Theory at least three times per week and read at least one book for pleasure this summer. Read Theory is an online reading program which provides students with opportunities to engage with texts at their reading level. Additionally, the program adapts to the students reading abilities; hence, as their skills improve, so will their reading levels. If your child does not have a Read Theory account please follow the steps below to sign up. Click Sign Up Choose Student If your child has an LAUSD address, please have them sign up using that address. After your child has signed up, he/she must take the pre-test. Once the pretest is completed, he/she will begin the reading program. You can monitor your child s reading level and Lexile score. A list of books and their Lexile levels is posted on our school s website ( The Lexile score tells you the complexity of the text. It does not take into account the content of text; as a result, it is important you examine the content of the book prior to your child reading it. Sincerely, Wright STEAM Magnet
