3 O n T h e C o v e r On April 25, 2009, a group from the MG visited Stewards Spring Cave. Shown here is one of the many beautiful photos taken that day. A n n o u n c e m e nts (1) The NSS has put together a WNS brochure which is available at: WNS%20Brochure% pdf (2) Several rappelling practice sessions are coming up; check the calendar for dates. (3) The Nashville Grotto is hosting the 2009 SERA Summer Cave Carnival on May at the TAG site in Walker County, Georgia. They are calling it Camp on Little River. I n f o / Trip R eports The History of the Montgomery Grotto (Michael Riley): Originally posted in the MG s September-October 1983 Inner Space News The Montgomery Grotto began organizing in June 19, Michael Riley contacted the NSS members who lived in the area. John Parks and Dennis and Brenda Cravens responded as wanting to start a Grotto. It was agreed that Mr. Riley should draft a proposed constitution. The first meeting was held on July 7th. Present were Michael Riley, John Parks, Bruce Dillon, and Jack Gibson. The constitution was unanimously approved and officers were elected. Michael Riley became President, John Parks/Vice Pres., and Bruce Dillon/Sec.-Treasurer. On July 21st a second meeting was held. At this meeting the constitution was signed by Rosalie Riley and David Parks. They agreed with the choice of officers. Plans were made to attend SERA 1983 Cave Carnival in Huntsville, AL on Aug Michael Riley, John and David Parks attended the Cave Carnival on Aug. 6, 7. They went to Limrock Blowing Cave. On Sep. 1 John Parks and Michael Riley held an Executive Committee meeting. Plans for INNER SPACE NEWS were made with Michael as Editor. Jack Gibson became the grotto photographer. The next meeting was called for Sep. 29. The Grotto Charter was granted on Aug. 27 as #G-297. The charter itself arrived a few weeks later and was placed in Mr. Riley s care. At the Sep. 29 meeting plans for INNER SPACE NEWS were finalized. A trip to Graves Cave was planned for Oct. 29. It was decided that meetings should be held monthly on the last Thursday of the month. The first issue of the INNER SPACE NEWS is due out by Oct. 20. The next meeting was called for Oct. 27. Neversink pictures: On April 25, 2009, Jess, Emily, Jeff, Marcy, Bo and Jim made a quick trip up to Neversink to enjoy the sights and take some pictures. 4 most amazing part is that no one flipped their watercraft!! Weogufka canoeing/kayaking trip (Chuck Tice): On April 11, 2009, a group from the MG spent the day on the Weogufka canoeing and kayaking. Bo, Jelene, Jess and Quote of the Month: "When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber." ~Sir Winston Churchill MG Meeting Minutes March 3, 2009: Chuck had an incredible time floating down the creek soaking in the sun and the beautiful scenery along the banks. The Meeting started at 7:07pm Robbie read the February 3, 2009 meeting s minutes to the group. o The minutes were then approved Jelene reported the treasury to be $251; that does not include $20 collected for dues during the previous month Stan: o Discussed dues and sending s to remind members who have not paid for the current year o Mentioned NSS membership requirement for all MG members after one year o Discussed he received from scout group; possible date for a beginner trip is April 11 or April 18 o Discussed a video shoot someone from UOAA (United Ostomey Association of America) has approached him with focusing on people with Ostomey to show that they can do anything they want to do; may be filming in late March or early April o Discussed daylight savings time change and asked the group if there was any interest to plan vertical practice at the tower o Mentioned grotto helmets and looking for good deals on new ones o Discussed his recent trip to the hospital The Sierra Club meeting was discussed by Robbie, Cassie and Stan Discussed a possible MG trip to the new bowling alley Robbie: o Mentioned doing a trip to Moss Rock to mess

5 around; Chuck added what a great place it was to do vertical practice o Mentioned finding a place to set up ropes in trees to do an obstacle course like at TAG Discussed trip reports: o Guess Creek Chuck, Roger and Jelene narrated o Spring Hollow at Hytop Deirdra narrated o Rumbling Falls Cave Deirdra narrated Had a group discussion regarding the Mitchell System, including difficulty in tight spaces and ascending great heights Door prizes: o Roger won an eraserwaste sweeper o Marcy won a TAG caver sticker o Robbie won a bat sticker The skydiving trip scheduled for May 23 was mentioned o Bo, Stan and Chuck will be jumping!!
