1 Westminster Christian Academy 7th grade Summer Reading 2018 WEBSITE & SUBMISSION LINK The online review form and other information about the assignment can be found at: bit.ly/wcaenglish7 Summer Reading Requirements As we work together with families to create lifelong learners, Westminster Christian Academy expects that our students will continue reading throughout the summer months. In working towards this goal, over the summer all incoming 7th grade students will be required to read two books they have not previously read. Students must choose books from the attached reading list or from the Westminster 100 list. It s very important that students enjoy their book(s); therefore, we encourage them to take the time to find a book they love. Book #1 Book #2 Extra book reviews Read any book (Fiction or Non-Fiction) from the reading list. The review should be submitted no later than Friday, June 29th. Read any book (Fiction or Non-Fiction) from the reading list. The review should be submitted no later than Friday, July 27th. The review should be submitted no later than Friday, August 3rd. After reading each book, students will submit an online book review. This summer s reading project is included in each student s first quarter English grade, so please follow the instructions on the website carefully and refer to rubric below as you complete the online review. Grading Rubric Skills and content students should keep in mind as they complete the online book review form: 24 points total Basic information Complete the name, title, review #, pages, author, genre, rating, headline, etc. /2 pts. Summary 2+ summary sentences about the plot /2 pts. Theme 2+ sentences that share the moral or life lesson /2 pts. Recommendation 1+ sentence giving details about the type of person who would enjoy the book /2 pts. Favorite 2+ sentences giving details and explaining why /2 pts. Other Book review received on time and written about a book from the list /2 pts Questions If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Heather Marsee at hmarsee@wcastl.org. 2 Questions Asked Frequently Q: I m so excited! When am I able to start my summer reading? A: You are welcome to begin your summer reading TODAY! There is no start date. The only time constraints are that you submit your reviews no later than the due dates specified in this packet. Early work is accepted. Q: How will I know if I submitted my review correctly? A: There are 2 ways to know it was submitted: 1. After completing the review form, press submit at the bottom of the page. A box will appear stating that your response has been recorded. 2. In addition, you will receive an with your submitted responses. After each deadline, if your review was not received, you will be notified by . Q: Is there a way for me to have a copy of my review? A: By providing your address, Google will send you a copy of your completed form once it s submitted. Q: How will my summer reading project affect my English grade? A: The summer reading project will be equivalent to a quiz grade in English. Please look at the rubric on the front page of the packet for specific details. Q: What happens if I turn in an assignment late? A: Late work will be penalized based on the length of time that it is overdue.
