3 Robot Rules Simplified: RG01 Robot must pass inspection Conduct self-inspection using checklist Have copy of Bill of Materials (BOM) for inspector Make extra copy also need one in engineering notebook

4 Robot Rules Simplified: RG02 Robot shall not have components that could: damage playing field damage or flip other robots Contain hazardous materials Pose a risk of entanglement Contain sharp edges or corners Contain animal based or liquid/gel materials or materials which when released can cause delay Ground robot frame to floor

5 Robot Rules Simplified: RG03 Robot shall not exceed 18 x18 x18 and must fit and be self supporting in sizing box by: Mechanical means with power off (all means must remain attached during match) Initialization routine to pre-position (if used a warning label is needed) Tip: DO NOT MAKE YOUR ROBOT 18 x18 x18! It must fit in box in any orientation and no part may be supported by the box think laser box.

6 Robot Rules Simplified: RG04 Robot main power switch MUST be mounted to be readily accessible and visible to competition personnel: Use image in manual to identify power switch location Note: This is an important safety issue. Field personnel must be able to identify and access the main power switch quickly in case of a malfunction to prevent damage to people, robots, or playing field.

7 Robot Rules Simplified: RG05 Batteries MUST be securely attached in a place where it will not make direct contact with other robots or Playing Field. RG06 Robot Controller MUST be accessible AND Visible Mount in a protected location Not blocked by material that could block signals

8 Robot Rules Simplified: RG07 Drivers station must have ONLY: One Android Device One OTG cable No more than 1 non-powered USB hub No more than 2 gamepads

9 Robot Rules Simplified: RG08 MUST have a flag holder at/near top RG09 MUST display team numbers Visible -On at least two sides (180 degrees apart) At least 3 high with ½ stroke width

10 Robot Rules Simplified: RG10 Energy only from: Approved batteries Change in position of Center of Gravity Storage achieved by deformation (e.g. a spring, but must be deemed safe ) RG11 Limitations on game elements launched 5 feet above playing field vertically 10 feet horizontally

11 Robot Mechanical Parts : RM01 Materials and COTS parts Raw materials and Post Processed materials that are readily available to majority of teams from standard distributors COTS parts with max of one degree of freedom Exception Holonomic wheels (omni or mechanum) No high traction wheels All materials can be modified provided no other rules violated

12 Robot Mechanical Parts : RM02 Welding, brazing, soldering and fasteners of any type allowed. RM03 Any type of COTS lubricant RM04 3D printed parts

13 Robot Electrical Parts: RE01 Robot control modules are constrained to: Exactly two android devices (ZTE Speed or Motorola Moto G 2 nd Gen) Robot controller device USB may ONLY connect to Core Power Distribution Module Driver station device USB may connect using Mini USB to On-The-Go cable to unpowered hub and to 1 or 2 Logitech F310 gamepads

14 Robot Electrical Parts: RE01 (continued) No more than 1 Core Power Distribution Module No more than 2 Device Interface Modules No more than 2 Core Legacy Modules Motor and Servo controllers in one of two configs outlined in manual

15 Robot Electrical Parts: RE02 Approved electronic devices may be modified to make more usable; may not be modified internally or in any way that affects their safety See manual for examples RE03 Robot power constraints: Android devices powered by internal batteries Robot power provided by single approved battery pack (see manual)

IF not used, power switch on Core Power Distribution Module must be readily accessible Powered modules connect to power output of Core Power Distribution Module Fuses not replaced with higher rating than specs or shorted out

19 Robot Electrical Parts: RE05 (continued): Stand alone USB hubs allowed Allowed electronic devices may only be powered by power ports on CPDM except as noted in manual Anderson Powerpole and similar crimp/quick required for downstream electronics. Power distribution splitters recommended where appropriate. All should be insulated.

23 Robot Software Rules: RS01 Robot controlled by only two Logitech gamepads RS02 Name Android official team number and RC for Robot Controller (i.e.1234-rc); team # and DS for Driver Station RS03 Only Java language on either: Android Studio App Inventor RS04 Robot controller 4.2 (JellyBean) or 4.4 (Kit Kat)

24 Robot Software Rules: RS05 Immediately prior to start of autonomous period and at pause between autonomous and driver controlled periods, robots shall be motionless except initialization of servos. Violations subject to random repositioning by head referee and repeated violations may lead to disqualification

25 Robot Software Rules: RS06 Teams must demonstrate that their robot switches between autonomous and driver controlled modes correctly. RS07 Robot Controller must have app that is default application for Core Robot modules RS088 Robot Controller must be set to airplane mode and Bluetooth turned off

26 Robot Inspection: I1 Teams must submit robot for inspection I2 Robot must pass inspection prior to competition I3 Robot sizing box will be used to ensure 18 x18 x18 max size I4 Must get re-inspected when modifications made I5 Inspector has responsibility to ensure safe operation I6 Inspection is PASS/FAIL ALL requirements must be met
