3 Design and Technology Stills from our new series The Fixies This series follows the comical misadventures of 10-year old Tom Thomas and his secret friendship with Simka and Nolik, the children of the Fixie family that live in his apartment. Each episode explores a scientific concept while combining elements of design and technology as well as personal development. The Airbag Learn how airbags and other safety mechanisms in cars keep us safe from harm. The Professor makes an airbag that does not deflate and realises that there are problems with this. He does not give up, but instead considers how to make the airbag better and creates a mechanism that makes it deflate as well min CC AR ClickView
4 The Draftsman Tom breaks a piece in his dart gun, so he learns the importance of making an accurate technical drawing in order to get things right. Tom has to make his drawing a number of times until he gets it right, which teaches him not to give up, resulting in satisfaction for a job well done min CC AR The Fire Extinguisher A fire is started in the lab! The Fixies try to put it out on their own but it s too big for them. Fire calls the authorities in case the situation gets out of hand, and demonstrates his responsible decision making. N.B.
