1 Omicron Crescent Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Spring Kentucky Brothers, Since January, I have had the great honor of serving as Noble Ruler of the Omicron Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho. We have enjoyed an enormous amount of success as a chapter and individually as brothers throughout the semester and we are looking forward to the exponential amount of success we will achieve at this pace. Omicron started the semester with a bang when we welcomed 7 new brothers into our fraternity. This a huge increase from spring semesters in the past (Spring Rush of 2013 resulted in 1 new brother and Spring Rush of 2012 resulted in zero new members!). These brothers have shown a lot of potential thus far and I am looking forward to seeing them grow as brothers and as men. With every new member class we get, I become more and more confident that this fraternity will always be left in good hands. In addition to the new members of the fraternity, the older members are making their presence known by all. Our grades are always on Noble Ruler Report the rise and our members are very involved in other clubs and activities throughout the college. We have brothers in leadership positions in Block & Bridle, Dairy Club, Ag. Student Council, ROTC, and others. While our collegiate brotherhood is strong, our alumni brotherhood is as strong as it has ever been as well. Most notably, we are very proud that two brothers, Glenn Stith & the late George Kurtz, were inducted into the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment this year! These brothers have represented AGR well in their professional lives and they are very deserving of this distinguished honor. More important than all of this, the interactions between alumni and undergraduate brothers have been phenomenal this semester. In addition to the usual contact with the alumni corporation board, we have had Brother Phillip Pratt speak at our meeting about his company and his experiences as an AGR, we had lots of great communication with alumni at the last Strategic Planning Session, and we even had a trip to Have a Recruitment Recommendation? If so, please complete and return the Recruitment Recommendation form on the back of this Crescent. Recommendations from our alumni mean a lot to us and help us maintain a strong brotherhood. What s Inside Alumni News Chapter News And More... Millennium Farm to visit Brother Bobby Miller to learn about the thoroughbred industry. Omicron has been improving every semester and the fall semester will be no exception. We look forward to making better men now and in the future! Fraternally, Addison Whitaker Noble Ruler
2 Glenn Stith inducted into Hall of Distinguished Alumni Left: Omicron alumnus, Glenn Stith Above: Undergraduates and alumni at Glenn Stith s induction to the Hall of Distinguished Alumni On February 21st, 2014, 5 exec officers and one member attended the College of Agriculture s Hall of Distinguished Alumni induction Ceremony. Glenn Stith, #923, was inducted into the College of Ag Hall of Distinguished Alumni for all of his life accomplishments. Glenn has embraced challenges throughout his life with his trademark belief that nothing is impossible to accomplish with the right amount of effort, energy, hard work and focus on the task at hand. Stith spends a lot of his time tending to the country s youth through the FFA and Alpha Gamma Rho. Stith is currently the chair-elect of the National FFA Foundation s Individual Giving Council. He and his wife have established the Glenn and Maggie Stith Leadership Development Fund Endowment that provides scholarship assistance to about 110 FFA members to attend the Washington Leadership Conference. Glenn currently serves as the vice president of the Alpha Gamma Rho Foundation. He has contributed greatly to the building of Omicron. Crescent Publishing Service This issue of the Omicron Chapter Crescent was published through the Crescent Publishing Service (CPS). This is a special project of the Alpha Gamma Rho Home Office to assist chapters in improving communications with alumni. Chapters pay a small fee for the service below the actual production cost to encourage regular contact. This project is made possible by donations from alumni like you. Please consider contributing.
3 Millennium Farms On April 3, 2014 Addison Whitaker, Colton Woods, Alex Amato, Jorden Bonar and myself attended a farm tour at Millennium Farms which is managed by Bobby Miller #616. Also joining us was Russell Gray #977, Eddie Gilkinson #799, Gary Coughlin #725. We toured the stallion barn and the breeding unit. As well as the mare barn and foaling stalls. We learned what all it takes to operate a horse farm. We also got to hear how Bobby came about this job. While hearing about how he got the job he also shared multiple stories about his experiences in Alpha Gamma Rho. We are very gracious for Eddie for setting the tour up. We are extremely thankful for Bobby for having us out! Fraternally, Brack D. Seale II VNR Alumni Relations Andrew Geary serves as Undergraduate Director Brother Andrew Geary received a position on the National Board of Directors as an Undergraduate Director. This position consists of not only representing the Omicron Chapter but all the chapters across the Nation. Undergraduate Directors are allowed to vote on issues discussed about the fraternity on a national scale. This position has been enlightening and provided very much insight of the operation of the fraternity. Undergraduate Directors are to help provide ideas, solutions to problems, and a general insight of the undergraduate perspective. Phillip Pratt Visit On March 24, 2014 we had Phillip Pratt, #1101, to speak in meeting. Phillip is the owner and operator of Pratt s Lawn care. He came in and spoke before our scheduled meeting. He shared his experiences he had in Alpha Gamma Rho and shared multiple funny stories. As well as hearing all of his experiences, we learned about his business. He shared with the chapter what he does as a landscaper and how often he does it. We are very thankful for Phillip for taking time out of his schedule and talking to the chapter. He has invited us to visit his business and we plan to accept the offer next semester!
