Design Oscar. The opening for this year s 26th Art of Motion Picture Costume Design exhibition took place on February 3rd in the main gallery of the Museum.

1 Event Spotlight FIDM Exhibition of Oscar Nominated Costumes Philip Gust A virtual tour of the FIDM Museum s exhibition of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Oscar nominated costumes. For the past quarter century, the FIDM Museum and Galleries in Los Angeles, California has hosted an exhibition of costumes from movies that have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design Oscar. The opening for this year s 26th Art of Motion Picture Costume Design exhibition took place on February 3rd in the main gallery of the Museum. Assistant VC editor Kathe Gust and I were happy to be among the guests again this year. Associate Curator Christina Johnson for the enjoyable and informative conversation about the exhibitions. As always, it was wonderful to spend time with both of them. About the Exhibition This years s exhibition featured over 125 costume designs from more than 25 films released in 2017, including all five Academy Award nominees for the Best Costume Design Oscar: Beauty and the Beast by Jacqueline Durran Darkest Hour by Jacqueline Durran Phantom Thread by Mark Bridges The Shape of Water by Luis Sequeira Victoria and Abdul by Consolata Boyle I will report on the exhibition and conversations with a few of the designers present, and take you on a virtual tour and highlight some of my favorite exhibits. Special thanks to Shirley Wilson in Public Relations for her welcome and invaluable assistance. Thanks also to Museum Registrar Meghan Hansen, and According to Shirley Wilson, This exhibition is the only one of its kind in the world that pays homage each year to the creativity of the costume designer for film with a museum show of outstanding costumes and Oscar nominated designs. The 2017 Oscar went to Colleen Atwood for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Two of Ms. Atwood s costumes and her Oscar were featured at this year s exhibition.
