1 THE DARKEST HOUR The film we want to write this review about is called Darkest Hour, directed by Joe Wright. It is based on the well known and true story of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The movie depicts the events in the British government during the Second World War Churchill seems to be the only person who can save Europe from ist devastation by the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces. As trouble arises, Winston has to make the important decision whether he wants to collaborate with Hitler and save his people or fight against him. On one hand, the movie reflects a very important historical event, but on the other hand, it goes way deeper than just the description of this happening. The Darkest Hour is not only a movie, but also an inspirational lifeguide. The viewers are told to not only trust their eyes, but also follow their heart <3. Furthermore, the core star of this breathtaking and old fashioned film, Gary Oldman, who got physically transformed into Churchill, performed this role like if he was the prime minister himself. The extremely realistic scenery, the stirring music and the dusty light accentuate Oldmans thoughtful performance. We would definitely recommend this movie to anyone, even to those who usually do not enjoy historical topics. The situation is brought to the viewers in an extremely touching way, especially because of Oldmans delivery of Churchills immortal never surrender speech to the British parliament, which even opens the eyes and hearts of philistines. 2 Review of DaRkest HouR We recently went to the cinema to watch Darkest Hour. The movie tells the story of Winston Churchill. The story is set in London, in the Second World War. Winston Churchill, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, has to make the decision between agreeing to negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany or sending thousands of men onto the battle field. While he has to withstand the force plotting against him, he tries to stand strong for his nation and hopes to make the right decision. Besides Winston Churchill, his secretary Elizabeth Layton is being emphasized. Moreover, his wife Clementine Churchill plays a big role in his life, as she stands out as a strong woman and supports him in any ways. Furthermore, Edward Wood, 3rd Viscount Halifax, is represented as the potential enemy of Churchill. On one hand, we would like to recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in history, pointing out the Second World War. Darkest Hour embraces the reality of the British parliament and its development at times of war and tragedy, in the 1940 s. On the other hand, we wouldn t suggest watching this kind of movie to people who aren t attracted by this sort of topic at all. By cause of minor knowledge, that leads to misunderstandings and interruptions while following the story line, the movie might seem to be incomprehensible and boring. 3 Review: Darkest Hour Winston Churchill is the newly appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and now has to face the threat that is Nazi Germany. The war and strategy experts advise him to negotiate with Germany in order to protect the public from the worst. Now Churchill has to decide whether to fight the seemingly invincible Nazi regime, or negotiate with them. The public is kept in the dark about the actual circumstances of Great Britain in the war. Churchill does not only have to deal with strategic problems because no one really supports him anymore. His own party is against him and wants to remove him from his position with the help of the king. In his Darkest Hour his new secretary Elizabeth and his wife are the only ones standing by him. Churchill obviously being the main character is portrayed as a stubborn, determined, serious but also humorous person. His secretary Elizabeth is at first intimidated by Churchill, however they soon develop a good work relationship. The secondary characters help to empathize the main character. The acting which is performed in the movie is quite extraordinary, especially Gary Oldman who portrays Churchill did an Oscar worthy job. His impersonation is very convincing. The Plot, which is based on historical facts, is rather fascinating and thrilling, however not paying close attention all the time will confuse you. This film is not for people not at all interested in these historical events, but still interesting for anyone who is open to it. The movie provides a good overall viewing experience and earns a 8/10 from us. By students of the WPF General English

4 Review Darkest hour: The film I m reviewing is a historical Drama which takes place in England, during the early days of World War 2. The Darkest hour is based on a real life story and shows the problematic decisions Winston Churchill had to face during his time as prime minister of England. Furthermore there are many important and memorable characters apart from Winston, one of them being King George. The main theme of the film is how Winston Churchill miraculously saved England from bad faith and is therefore an important historical act not only England. Across the board Darkest Hour is a phenomenal film. Gary Oldman delivers a fantastic performance as Churchill, surrounded by a perfectly cast of supporting players including Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kristin Scott Thomas. Based on the subject matter alone director Joe Wright had a difficult task ahead of him, charged with bringing the revered Churchill to life, but he scores high marks for his efforts as he never lets an angle or shot go to waste. His ability to manoeuvre through cracks and around corners brings an unusual sense of intimacy to the story. I would recommend this film to anyone, not only is this a riveting account of one of the most important moments of the Second World War, but it's also an exhilarating drama that goes beyond being a simple biography by bringing humour, energy and passion to every moment. Overall, I absolutely loved Darkest Hour. It's an undoubtedly riveting historical drama about a crucial turning point in global history, but more than that, it's full of incredible energy from start to finish, with amazing and still appropriate humour throughout combined with stunning patriotic passion, making for a genuinely exciting and properly entertaining film. 5 Review Darkest Hour The film we would like to review is called Darkest Hour. It is set in The story is based on the happenings which appeared when Winston Churchill became Prime Minister. As we already mentioned, the film is about Winston Churchill. It is about the actions that happened in WWII and especially about Dunkirk. There are many memorable characters including Winston Churchill, Clementine Hozier, Elizabeth Layton, etc. I would recommend this film to anyone that is interested in the life of Winston Churchill. If you are interested into politics this Film, may be a good opportunity to learn something as well. It is one of the best films we have seen so far because it is so well performed by Gary Oldman, who played Winston Churchill, that you can literally feel the excitement going through the room during his speeches. This film lifts you out of your everyday life and shows you a big chunk of history including some parts of the ordinary life back then. By students of the WPF General English

It tells the compelling story of the uprise of Winston Churchill and his taking part in the politics of World War II. The movies genre is a historical drama and also features parts of a biography. It sets its focus on Winston Churchill, who is played by Gary Oldman who is also known for his role as James Gordon in The Dark Knight. The plot follows Winston Churchill s rise to fame as the newly appointed prime minister of England. The movie has a rather small but loveable cast. The main characters are Winston Churchill, his secretary Elizabeth Layton and the current king of England King George VI. Winston Churchill is promoted to the post of prime minister. But because he acts fairly odd, not many people are happy with the new prime minister. The only ones who believe in him are his family and his dear secretary. At that time the German Wehrmacht overran Belgium and France. All the British soldiers were trapped in Dunkirk and England could be run over by the German. Churchill now has to make the decision on how to resolve this situation. Also the soundtracks and camerawork of this movie was awesome. The effort of the mask for Gary Oldman was also very interesting. I would like to recommend this film to anyone who is interested in history, especially in the Second World War, because it perfectly captures the tense situation Churchill was put in. The look of the scenes was quite impressive in my opinion. Also the perspective and angles of the camera movement was very well thought-through and contributed to a very nice visual impression.
