All rights reserved. 2.4 GHz Non Overlapping Channels In the United and Canada there are only 3 simultaneous nonoverlapping channels - Channels 1, 6, and 11 Regions where 13 channels are used there are different simultaneous nonoverlapping channel combinations - Channels 1, 6, 11, or 2, 7, 12, or 3, 8, 13, or 1, 5, 9, 13 - Channels 1, 6, and 11 are typically used in other regions also 5 MHz Used Bluey on key slides to make sure I had their focus. 4 Successful Wireless Deployment? What is a successful wireless deployment? - The wireless network works in most areas and most of the time? - Users accessing the network are not complaining about the network? A goal of a successful wireless deployment would be: The wireless network performs as designed based on the defined requirements collected from the customer Success!!! Maybe not, Inc. All rights reserved. Why the extra thought with Wi-Fi design? 1. The Wi-Fi signal that goes between the clients and the APs is impaired by stuff that s in the way (including air) - Does the signal reach client with sufficient strength to allow a connection or decent throughput 2. An AP s available bandwidth is shared among all the clients that are connected to one of its radios - More clients means lower throughput for everybody - Need to have enough APs in a coverage area to handle the capacity (number of users and application) 3. 6 RF Shared Medium Exercise/Demo Iperf is a tool that can be used for network throughput testing - JPerf is a Java-based GUI version of Iperf To measure throughput of the wireless connection 1. Connect PC to switch port and run Iperf (JPerf) server 2. Connect AP to same switch (same VLAN) 3. Adjacent Channel Interference Adjacent channels, such as 1, 2 and 3, use the same RF Spectrum and will interfere with one another - Transmitted frames could become corrupted - Receiver will not send ACK - Retransmissions will increase And here s bluey again.
