3 SECTION I - STATIC CAUTIONS 1. Always carry a static strap with you for all installations and service calls. Static straps can wear out or become damaged. If the cable is damaged or the elastic strap becomes excessively dirty please replace it with a new one. These are available in many places. They should last several years with normal use. 2. When running the wires and making all connections be careful not to touch the ends of the wires in the connectors. Touching and discharging static into the cable sends the shock directly to the logic board. Wear a properly grounded static strap or keep your skin in contact with any painted steel surface when making these connections. 3. If performing service and you must make or break connections on any component wear a properly grounded static strap. 4. Never handle a core logic board without a properly grounded static strap. If you need to remove a core logic board for service place it into a static-bag as quickly as possible. Spacesaver recommends using the bag we use to ship our core logic boards. 5. Treat all components the same. Don t drop your static guard because the component is being returned to Spacesaver. Most static damage is undetectable degradation, causing shortened component life, not immediate failure. 6. Taking the time to be static safe will save money in fewer warranty calls and more reliable system performance throughout its life. 3

5 SECTION II - INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS All RF Control Receivers will mount to the first control box. This is the box on the left side of the system when facing the front. A maximum of (4) Receivers may be used in a system allowing remote control of 28 aisles (27 carriage module). Notice the ModLogic board on the right hand side of the logic control box. This will also serve as an on-board diagnostic/ programmer. This sample only has posts mounted for one receiver. Receivers will have a zone indicator written in the upper left hand corner of the unit. Be certain you have the correct receiver for the aisles of this module you want to control. Zones are designated by the letters A - O. The one in this example was left blank. The power LED is on in this picture, just to the right of the zone box. Run the wire into the control box, plan your method of wire management, and mount the Receiver as high on the racking as the cable will allow with the plate provided. Simply remove the hardware that ships with the Receiver and use it to mount the Receiver to the plate. Install the antenna. 5 Mount the plate with (2) #14 x 1 tek screws provided.

6 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS O P T I O N A L R F C O N T R O L SECTION II - INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Connect the wires from the Receiver to the posts on the ModLogic board using the wiring diagram on the front of the Receiver. NOTE: At this time the green wire is not used. 1) On systems with multiple Receivers mount all grounds together on the single post. 2) Position 1 is stop for the first zone (Reciever). 3) Aisles 1-7 are positions ) Position 9 is stop for the second zone (Receiver). 5) Aisles 8-14 are positions ) Stop for the third zone (Receiver) is position 17. 7) Aisles are positions ) Position 25 is stop for the fourth zone (Receiver). 9) Aisles are positions Connect the black and white wire (ac power) to the open side of the terminal block on the top logic board in the control box and observe polarity. A red power indicator light will light just to the right of the zone box when power is applied. 6 Testing the RF Control - for more information on testing the unit see the RF Control Operating Instructions OP ) Install the battery into the transmitter. 2) Set the zone control of the transmitter to the appropriate zone. 3) Push the aisle number of the aisle you want to open. a) The green OK light should light indicating battery status. 4) The aisle should open and complete it s move normally.

7 SECTION III - RETRO-FIT INSTRUCTIONS Mount the ModLogic board on the right side of the control box using the following parts: (1) ModLogic board (1) Auto Move Key (3) Spacer (1) Machine screw (2) Keps nut Verify the auto move key is installed and oriented as shown. Use (3) spacers, (1) machine screws,and (2) keps nuts. Secure the machine screw with the keps nut and install the spacers as shown creating a pad for the ModLogic board. Orient the spacers and machine screw as shown only, to prevent potential board damage from the keps nuts hitting components on the board. Secure the board with the remaining keps nut and connect the cables: J10 (Rt Comm) runs to the top (first) core logic board s J24 (LEFT COMM). J13 (PWR) runs to any unused two-pin safety jack (J3, J6, J9, J17, J20, J25) of any logic board. Remove the left end of system jumper from J23. 7

8 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS O P T I O N A L R F C O N T R O L SECTION III - RETRO-FIT INSTRUCTIONS It is often possible to run the wire into the control box without removing it. If you are unable to do this remove the hardware anchoring the top of the control box. This will vary due to the racking used. Remove the control box by unscrewing the (2) self-threading screws. They have a 9/16 hex head. Feed the Receiver wire(s) through the wheel section and into the bottom of the control box and re-attach the control box. 8 At this point the installation is identical to a new system that was ordered with the RF Control. Please refer to page 4 of this manual and complete the installation and testing. When retro-fitting the RF Control the software revision of the core logic boards must be 2.0 or higher. Software revisons can be gotten by logging on to SpaceNet and entering the following link: If you don t have access to Spacenet you maybe able to get the software at the following ftp site. Please refer to CSS007 - Accessing the FTP site, CSS006 - Downloading software from the FTP site. Use OP Diagnostic/Programmer Manual for details concerning upgrading and installation to the latest revision of software.

9 SECTION IV - SETTING ZONE CONFIGURATION The radio as configured is capable of transmitting and receiving for a minimum of 300 feet (under reasonable conditions non-jammed, etc) at MHz. The protocol of the radio is proprietary but includes a 32-bit address and 32-bit CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Code) and other mechanisms to insure reliable delivery of digital information. The SSC address is set at (in hexadecimal): x. The value for x varies from 1 to 15 (decimal) depending on the receiver address configuration jumpers and the transmitter rotary switch setting. The receiving unit software is such that if a properly formed transmit message is not received within approximately 500mS it will time-out and turn all relays off. The following chart summarizes the addressing within a system and the picture that follows shows the JP5 jumper locations. Setting Zone Configuration Remove power from the system. Open the Reciever control box by removing the 4 nuts and washers that hold the box to the standoffs. The box will then open in a clam shell manner revealing the internal components. 9
