9 WU CR At Dartmouth College HA\ OVER, \EW HAMPSHIRE Laj 1J, Mr. Kermit Geary RD#2, Box 296 Walnutport, Pa. Dear Mr. Geary: Thank you for your prompt reply to thw WDCR DX broadcast of April 13, The results have not been overwhelming because of the interference from WIRY in Plattsburg, New York; however, a new distance record was set. Mr. David F. Thomas of Proctorville, Ohio was able to catch bits of our braodcast between 2:00 and 3:00 am. By rough calcultaions, I estimate that Proctorville, just outside Huntington, W.Va., is more than 700 miles from Hanover. Exact verification of your report by the times you listed will be diffict1t since we kept no accurate log of our programming. however, since your leter mentioned such key phrases as "Send a card to WDCR, box 1032, Hanover, N.H." and "This is WDCR doing DX programming", I can believe that you actually did receive WDCR that evening. The music played included sound effects, marches, and dixieland jazz. Please take this then as a verification of your report. When all of the letters are in, I hope to make a map showing the places where WDCR as heard that evening. Please look for the map as it will be along within a few weeks. Again thanks for making this program a success. Sincerely yours, Don B. Knapp, Techincal Director, WDaH 1340 ON YOUR RADIO DIAL

'8088 Please excuse the impersonality of a printed verification, but i have really been inundated with reception reports resulting from. the test. Consider this a verification of your reception of that test as logged, and my congratulations go to those of you who were sucessful at great distance. We have received reports from the Midwest, and the metro MY area as well as more local contacts. Our station is a 1 kw daytime and 250 w nighttime nondirectional operation, with a contemporary music format, with a strong emphasis of DJ personality. Much of our news and public affairs-programmng is highly locally oriented and we offer something for just about everyone. Enclosed is a copy of our coverage map, with the area of the map located in central New Hampshire. As you can see, our 1 kw signal, heavily audio processed (ecuilization, reverb, and C3S Audimax - Volumax limiting) serves a reasonably large area. Test of luck in your continuing BCB DX hobby from the entire tech staff.

19 GOOD TIME OLDIES Mr. Kermit Geary 1266 Riverview Drive Walnutport PA Dear Mr. Geary: April 1, 1991 I am writing to confirm your reception of WCQL-AM 1380 on December 28, A cross-check of our programming at the time confirms the details of your reception report. At the time, WCQL-AM was carrying syndicated talk programming. New was produced locally and the voice you heard was that of your former News Director Scott Tranchemontagne. Unfortunately, Scott is no longer with us. On January 12, 1991 we rolled our AM back into our FM and are now programming Oldies on the AM. If you should try to pick up the AM again you will hear it referred to as "COOL 95.3." WCQL-AM is 1000 watts. Surprisingly, we are directional to the north at sunset which makes your reception that much more impressive. Incidentally, I noticed in your "Broadcasters' Guide to DX" a photocopy of a letter from WQLX/WGLX in Galion, Ohio. That is the station that gave me my first job in radio ten years ago. Your letter indicates that Maumee Valley Broadcasting was the owner of the station. I'm not sure when the ownership change took place, however the station is now owned by Malone Broadcasting. It was a bit of a flashback to see that letter in your flyer. I've enclosed a station bumper sticker for you. Though it is for our FM, we do simulcast and at this point the AM is not where we are placing our efforts. I appreciate hearing from you and if I can answer any further questions, please feel free to contact me. Scott Mason Program Director 95.3 FM 1380 AM WCQL, 1555 Islington St. Portsmouth, NH FAX

23 AM TALKRADIO 1020 The Twin State's Most POWERFUL AM FM 99.7 mhz New London Mr.V:ermit Geary January 16, Riverview Drive Walnutport, PA Dear Mr. Kermit Geary, This is to confirm your reception report of WNTK AM 1020 test on January 4, 1993 between 0300 and 0330 AM Eastern Standard Time. WNTK At 1 is licensed to the town of Newport, New Hampshire. ',..VNTK-AM is the highest powered AM in New Hampshire operating with a daytime power of 10,000 watts. Our transmitter is a one -hundred percent solid state Nautel Amphet 10. Our antenna is a 209 foot vertical with a new set of ground radials. WNTK-AM is located at 43-21* -52" North Latitude, and 2-10'-45" West Longitude. At the time of the test we were operating 10,000 watts. In regard to the January 4, 1993 test we have received todate 23 reception reports, from fifteen (15) different states, ranging from the closest being New York and Iowa being the furthest. We also received reports from two other countries those being Winnepeg, Manitoba - London, Ontario --Canada and Jamaica, West Indies. I want to thank you for the completeness of your reports. Also I was particularly impressed with the enthusiasm for the hobby that was evident in all of the letters. Finally, the fact that KDKA a 50,000 watt clear channel station was on the air and that through the use of C.W. you were able to read our test speaks very much for the necessity of the continuance of the practice of using Morse Code. A bit of personal information WNTK is owned by my wife and me and (of course the bank). I am 46 years old and have been a ham radio operator for the past 33 years. My call is W1HUX and I like to operate twenty meters around or we have a "5th Estate Net" that meets each Sunday evenings at 8 Pm Eastern on ± 10 kc. I look forward to participating in the future with other tests and like each of you it would be great to have reception reports from all 50 states. Bes),773's RLV:mw Robert L.
