1 Summary This Job Aid covers: Preparing the Antenna for Pointing and Peaking Point Elevation Set the Skew Point Azimuth Peak Azimuth Peak Elevation Push/Pull Test This Job Aid supports all Technician audiences. Preparing the Antenna for Pointing and Peaking The following information reviews the steps necessary to prepare the satellite modem and the Ka-band antenna to support the WildBlue Point and Peak process. The Technician is required to complete this process during every WildBlue Service installation. Warning: Confirm that the modem is unplugged from the wall before beginning any preparation steps Setting "Zero" Before aligning an antenna, confirm that these items are present. These three settings represent the "zero" settings. The Elevation gauge is set to the work order elevation The Azimuth Fine-adjust cam notch is aligned with the hash mark o If not, loosen the Azimuth base plate bolts, and rotate the cam clockwise until the notch and mark are aligned. Use the ½-inch open wrench for this step The Skew is set for 90 degrees Required Tools To point and peak a 2009 ODU, an Technician needs these tools: Two COAX Test cables A Satellite Signal Level Meter (SSLM) The WildBlue Antenna Pointing Aid (APA) Two WildBlue Attenuators 10dB and 20dB An inclinometer ½-inch open wrench ½-inch ratchet and socket ViaSat, Inc. Follow these steps to prepare the antenna for pointing and peaking. 1. Insert the tools in the Receive (RX) feed cable path. a. Beginning at the TRIA, place a test cable from the RX port to the From TRIA port on the APA.

Note: We recommend attaching the Attenuators with the 20 db attached directly to the modem RX connector. It makes it easier to remove the 10 db Attenuator, if necessary. 2. Set the APA to the frequency range setting (1-8) provided on the work order.

2 Follow these steps to prepare the antenna for pointing and peaking. 1. Insert the tools in the Receive (RX) feed cable path. a. Beginning at the TRIA, place a test cable from the RX port to the From TRIA port on the APA. b. From the To Meter port on the APA, place a test cable to the LNB port on the SSLM. c. From the Sat RX port on the SSLM to the 10dB attenuator, place the installed COAX cable. Note: We recommend attaching the Attenuators with the 20 db attached directly to the modem RX connector. It makes it easier to remove the 10 db Attenuator, if necessary. 2. Set the APA to the frequency range setting (1-8) provided on the work order. Note that the filter setting may be different from carrier to carrier with in a beam, and may change over time. 3. Plug the modem AC power cord into the power outlet. 4. Confirm that the SSLM produces an audible signal, and adjust the gain appropriately ViaSat, Inc. Page 2 of 8

3 Point Elevation The following information reviews the steps to complete the point (coarse) antenna Elevation adjustment. 1. Slightly loosen the Lockdown Nuts in the Arched Slots on sides of the Elevation Bracket. Next, turn the top ½-inch Nut on the Elevation Rod away from the top of the Pivot Casting. 2. Set the marker on the Inclinometer to the Arm angle shown on the work order. Attach a magnetic Inclinometer to one of the Boom Arms. 3. Turn the Bottom Nut in the direction necessary to align the Inclinometer arrow to the Arm Angle. 4. Handtighten the top nut on the Elevation rod to the Pivot Casting. Finally, tighten the Lockdown Nuts in the Arched Slots on each side of the Elevation Bracket ViaSat, Inc. Page 3 of 8

Loosen the four bolts that hold the Antenna Back Bracket to the Skew plate. 3.

4 Set the Skew After pointing the Elevation, the antenna is skewed using the setting found on the work order. Follow these steps to set the Skew. 1. Locate the skew setting on the work order. 2. Loosen the four bolts that hold the Antenna Back Bracket to the Skew plate Rotate the reflector dish so that the Skew pointer aligns with the Skew setting on the scale. 4. The antenna should move, but not too easily. Tighten or loosen the flange nuts as needed. Note: After placing the antenna on the mount tube, the Technician aligned it to the desired compass setting.

5 Point Azimuth The following information reviews the steps to complete the point (coarse) antenna Azimuth adjustment. Satellite Locations The three WildBlue Network satellites are Anik F2, WB1, and AMC- 15. Anik F2 and WB1 are located at 111 degrees, while AMC 15 is located at 105 degrees. 1. Sweep the antenna from side to side, checking the tightness of the three flange nuts on the mount canister. The antenna should move, but not too easily. Tighten or loosen the flange nuts as needed. Note: After placing the antenna on the mount tube, the Technician aligned it to the desired compass setting. 2. The direction of this procedure depends on the satellite noted on the work order or on the Support Portal Quick Flash Tab. WildBlue 1 and Anik F2: Gently pull the dish to the right about 10 degrees away from the estimated Azimuth. AMC-15: Gently pull the dish to the left about 10 degrees away from the estimated Azimuth. 3. Sweep the antenna in the opposite direction until the SSLM registers its highest tone and reading 4. Finish this step by tightening the Flange nuts, starting with the top to maintain an even pressure on the Tube canister ViaSat, Inc. Page 5 of 8

Peak Azimuth The following information reviews the steps to complete the peak (fine) antenna Azimuth adjustment. 1. Loosen the three Azimuth base plate bolts using a ½-inch ratchet.

6 Peak Azimuth The following information reviews the steps to complete the peak (fine) antenna Azimuth adjustment. 1. Loosen the three Azimuth base plate bolts using a ½-inch ratchet. If the Cam notch and Hash mark are not aligned, turn the cam clockwise until the notch and mark are aligned. 2. Set the gain on the SSLM to Using the ½-inch open wrench, turn the Cam clockwise. Watch/listen as the Signal Meter registers the highest tone/reading. Note that reading. 4. Continue turning the Cam clockwise until the Signal Meter drops, and then returns to its highest reading/tone, as noted in 3 above. Stop. Important: Never turn the CAM backwards. This breaks the Cam and prevents correct peaking. 5. Finish this step by tightening the carriage bolts on the Azimuth base ViaSat, Inc. Page 6 of 8

Set the Signal Meter to 60. 3. Using the ½-inch wrench on the lower nut of the Elevation rod, watch/listen as the Signal Meter registers the lowest tone/reading. Note this reading (i.e., 20.) 4.

7 Peak Elevation The following information reviews the steps to complete the peak (fine) antenna Elevation adjustment. 1. Slightly loosen the Lockdown Nuts in the Arched Slots on sides of the Elevation Bracket. Next, turn the top ½-inch Nut on the Elevation Rod away from the top of the Pivot Casting. 2. Set the Signal Meter to Using the ½-inch wrench on the lower nut of the Elevation rod, watch/listen as the Signal Meter registers the lowest tone/reading. Note this reading (i.e., 20.) 4. Reverse the turn on the nut, and count revolutions as the Signal Meter registers its highest tone/reading, and then comes back to reading noted in Reverse the turn on the nut again, and turn half of the revolutions from Finish this step by tightening the same bolts and nuts ViaSat, Inc. 8 Push/Pull Test The following information reviews the steps to complete the peak (fine) antenna Azimuth adjustment. Important: An Technician always uses a Push/Pull test before proceeding to Initial Modem Lock. This prevents delays in Modem Lock and Provisioning because the Push/Pull Test confirms that the antenna has aligned correctly during Point and Peak. 1. From behind the antenna, gently push and pull each side of the antenna. 2. Gently push and pull the top and the bottom of the antenna 3. The test passes when the SSLM tone and reading drops every time pressure is added to the antenna. If the tone or reading rises, the alignment is not correct. If the rise occurs when pushing or pulling on the sides of the antenna, restart at the Point Elevation step. If the rise occurs when pushing or pulling on the top or bottom of the antenna, restart at the Point Azimuth step. Note: Remember to zero the Azimuth fine-adjust Cam before beginning any azimuth steps ViaSat, Inc. Page 8 of 8
