1 MODEL NUMBER: UHR GB-XX IMPROX UHF Rx ImproX RF 4-Channel UHF Receiver INSTALLATION MANUAL SPECIFICATIONS Working Environment... Input Voltage Range... The ImproX UHF Receiver is designed to work in an indoor or outdoor environment similar to IP55. The Receiver is, therefore, sealed against water (Refer to the section Mounting the UHF Receiver). 4.5 V DC to 5.5 V DC (terminal +5 V). INSTALLATION INFORMATION CAUTION: Accessories This model of the ImproX UHF Receiver only supports connection to the IXP220 Controller, the IXP20 Controller, the ImproX (itrt) Intelligent Twin Reader Terminal, the ImproX (MfT) Multi-function Terminal and the ImproX (TA) Time Attendance Terminal. DO NOT attempt to connect this Receiver to an ImproX (DT) Door Terminal. Find the following when unpacking the UHF Receiver: An ImproX RF 4-Channel UHF Receiver housed in a Grey, ABS Plastic housing. The UHF Receiver consists of a Top Cover, a Base and an Antenna (the Top Cover is attached to the Base with 4 Bolts (M4x25 mm)). General An extra Serial Number Label. Remember the following when installing the UHF Receiver: When installed with the ImproX TA, the Terminal can be placed in one of two modes: Channel 1 and 2 Mode or Channel 3 and 4 Mode. If you place the Terminal in Channel 1 and 2 Mode then Channels 1 and 2 of the ImproX RF 4-Channel UHF Transmitter are processed. Channel 1 is processed as the Terminal s Primary Fixed Address and Channel 2 is processed as the Terminal s Secondary Fixed Address. This scenario also applies to Channel 3 and 4 Mode. Using the ImproX TA as an example, refer to Figure 1 for clarification.

Ensure that you use a CE Approved Power Supply Unit. Maximum Data Communications Distance The distance between the UHF Receiver and the Terminal or Controller can be extended to a maximum of 10 m (33 ft) using a good quality shielded multi-strand 2-pair twisted cable. The cross-sectional area of the cable must not be less than 0.2 mm 2 ( in 2 ). Optimum Receiver Position Maximum Line-of-sight In a typical industrial environment, the maximum reading distance should be 20 m (22 yd). Tested, low noise environments may exhibit greater reading distances. Position the UHF Receiver in clear line-of-sight, preferably 1.80 m (6 ft) or higher above the ground, in the direction of movement, with the Antenna in the vertical plane. In Figure 2, a Tag moving in the direction of motion 1 will be in line-of-sight of the Antenna throughout the 20 m (22 yd) distance from first detection to the location of the Receiver. However, a Tag moving in the direction of motion 2 will move out of the lineof-sight of the Antenna once it reaches point A in Figure 2. NOTE: Test the UHF Receiver positioned vertically or horizontally, in the proposed installation location before mounting in position, ensuring the read range meets your needs. 3 Four Channels Figure 2: Line-of-sight Communication When using the ImproX RF Receiver and a single ImproX (itrt) Intelligent Twin Reader Terminal (XRT GB-XX, XRT GB-XX, IPS GB-XX or IPS GB-XX), only two Push-buttons on the ImproX (QT) Quad Transmitter (XQT GB-XX) are available for use. In order to utilize all four of the ImproX (QT) Quad Transmitters (XQT GB-XX) Push-buttons, connect two ImproX (itrt) Intelligent Twin Reader Terminals (XRT GB-XX, XRT GB-XX, IPS GB-XX or IPS GB-XX), to the ImproX RF Receiver, see Figure 3. 4 Mounting the UHF Receiver CAUTION: Make certain that you mount the UHF Receiver on a vibration-free surface. Select the mounting position of the UHF Receiver, considering accessibility and routing of wires. Secure the housing to the mounting surface, using suitable screws and wall plugs, nuts and bolts, rivets or double-sided adhesive tape. The cabling to the UHF Receiver MUST pass through the Cable Gland provided. CAUTION: To ensure an environment seal of IP55 once the UHF Receiver s installed and tested, seal the interior of the Cable Gland and the Antenna with general-purpose Silicone Sealer. Also make sure the Gasket Seal s not damaged on the lid. Blank Space UHR GB-07 June 2011 Page 4
