Letter From The President Welcome Members First, I d like to thank you for allowing me to serve as President of the Peoria Camera Club for , and be part of an organization that not only gives knowledge, back but allows friendships to be created. I am following in the footsteps of some great past presidents and know I have big shoes to fill. We already have a busy fall planned. We ll kick off the new club year with our Annual Picnic at Glen Oak Park on August 22. Hopefully everyone will be able to make it, particularly after the much anticipated full eclipse on the 21 st. This year, the PCC will be hosting the CICCA Fall Salon on October with an added social element. Be watching for more information. On October 28, we ll host our annual still life workshop. I know I enjoy participating in this event each year. 2 President s Letter continued CLUB INFORMATION Peoria Camera Club has been serving the Peoria area since The club s mission is to help members develop photographic skills through encouragement, mutual help, and learning opportunities. PCC is a member of Photographic Society of America and Central Illinois Camera Club Association. MONTHLY MEETINGS Unless otherwise specified, meetings are held on the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of the month at First United Methodist Church, 116 NE Perry Avenue, Peoria, IL. (downtown, near the Peoria Public Library) Meeting time 7:00 to 9:00pm MEMBERSHIP DUES Membership is yearly, Sept thru May. Dues are $20 a bargain for access to educational programs, seminars, image critiques, competitions, and fellowship for improving your photography. Dues are payable in September. Please bring cash or a check to any meeting in September and submit payment to Bill Snyder, club Treasurer. For current and prospective members, I want to assure you that my intention is to continue to grow the club. I plan to stay focused on our mission to help our members develop their photographic skills through encouragement, mutual help, and learning opportunities. I look forward to a productive and successful year and invite each of you to participate, and most importantly, become involved. Changes to Open Rules The board voted and passed to alter the rules for Open. This change will align our rules with CICCA. As a reminder, Open 1 is due on August 22, so pay close attention. New Definition for Open: The emphasis for this category is on aesthetics and creating a fine image with great impact while maintaining a natural quality. The subject matter of this category is unrestricted. Images can be a single exposure or multiple exposures blended together to create a seamless image. Examples are HDR, image stacking for depth-of-field, panoramas, etc. Combining two unrelated images are not allowed. There are NO restrictions for image enhancement as long as the image maintains a natural looking appearance. Borders and vignettes are allowed. Infrared is NOT allowed Volunteers Needed Heart of Illinois Fair. After many years of serving as Photography Chairman for the Heart of Illinois Fair, William Goad has officially retired. This means we re looking for someone to step forward to take on this key role. We need a volunteer by October 31st, or the PCC will have to let the fair board know our club will no longer be involved in the photography department. Please help us preserve our leadership at this great community event. Social Activities. We also need someone to volunteer to lead social activities and coordinate refreshments at meetings and events. Volunteers make a difference within the club and the community. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering for either of these positions. Thank you! Crystal Johnson, President PhotoChatter 2

I volunteered to serve as this year s editor of the club newsletter PhotoChatter. I hope you like the new look, which complements our recently updated logo. In addition to the new look, I plan to add two new sections and include more shared content from members. Upcoming Events & Photo Opportunities is the first new section, which I will include information on local and regional festivals, car shows, motorcycle races, zoo events, raptor days, eagles on the river, flowers in bloom, Facebook groups, gallery shows, opportunities to display your photos, and photo workshops and tours. I can make sure everyone is informed, but I ll need your help to submit the details, like 1) Name of Event/Opp, 2) Location, 3) Website, and 4) brief one or two sentence description of event/opp in your own words and anything photographically interesting. Members Favorites is the second section I d like to add. This can be anything from a tip on how you photographed a bird, a feature on your camera you love, favorite software, a new editing technique, photo resources on the web, links to online learning, video tutorials, a cool place you recently visited, best place to buy mounting/framing supplies, favorite photo tour, and worthy workshops. Also briefly offer why it s your fav and how it impacted your photography. You can also submit favorite photographic helper in your bag; something you can t live without. For instance, favorite tool in my bag I won t leave home without my Hoodman Loupe. I ordered it from B&H for $79 and it s worth every penny. I can view/examine images in the field close-up and without glare so I know I got the shot! We don t often get a chance to share in the meetings, so this would be a great opportunity to be heard and share your ideas. All members will be credited for their submission. I'm looking forward to a year filled with great ideas and gems to share to help everyone improve their photography. Thank You, Julie Dodge PhotoChatter 3

9 GENERAL PROGRAM PREVIEW SEPTEMBER 19 Topic: Close-Up / Macro Photography Close-up and Macro Photography seem to be the theme this year for the club s special competitions. Club members Vicki Padesky, Ray Keithley and Rich Seeman will present a program on Close-Up / Macro Photography on Sept. 19, to help members learn more about this unique genre of photography. Vicki, Ray, and Rich will: 1) define close-up / macro photography; 2) identify some of the special equipment needed; and 3) demonstrate useful techniques to address the unique composition, lighting and focus challenges encountered when doing this style of photography. At the end of the presentation, the team will have a variety of lenses, cameras and close-up equipment set up so members can experience for themselves the various ways to approach close-up and macro imaging. This presentation will be valuable in helping members enter our club s upcoming President s Special Competition and the KodaRoamer Challenge. It will also discuss applying techniques at the upcoming Still Life workshop Oct. 28. PhotoChatter 9
