Definition of content For luminous textile content or dynamic content Videos, animations, images, colors, and/or patterns, used in combination with Content Manager or other control methods, to create that what is displayed over time by a luminous textile installation. Luminous textile is an integral element as it effects that what will be displayed. (softens, contrast, diffuses, effects color, adds texture) 4
Webinar scope Importance of content and narrative Have an impression of the influence of luminous textile on displayed content Parameters to play with when working with content Technical requirements for content when using Content Manager software Playback options Where to find content Basic guidance for engineers if no designer is involved This webinar is not design course to create good content. 5
6 Content is king

Soft fascinating solution Information soft fascination Luminous content is intended for soft fascination, to enhance ambience in an environment. It is not intended to show logos or text 14
Type Nature figurative abstract Should you recognize the content, our should it be present as passively as possible? Type of content is a key element to fulfil your project requirements. 15
The mind doesn t mind being fooled..as long as the result makes sense
Speed Slow - fast The speed influences our perception. Calm animations tend to be in the background subconsciously. Quick animations draw our immediate attention. Speed has a lot to do with size. Imagine a bird flying on a small television screen and now imagine the same animation projected on a big projection screen. The calmness and the speed differs. 17
Contrast Low - high Contrast lets you play between different levels of saturation. When using very saturated colors you strengthen the perception of an artificial environment. When you use pastel and soft contrast it is perceived as more natural. In combination with the speed, this can be a powerful tool on how to change the atmosphere in a space. 18
Contrast and colors Background colors Contrast of the background color can be a great tool to influence the impact of your content. Black background color will make the object appear on the textile. A white or colored background can be of use to emphasize the panels or to use the color to influence the overall appearance. Silhouettes are best recognized as black on white or black on solid colored backgrounds. 19
Colors and dynamics Impact on large areas Remember animations are played back on significant surfaces. 20
Length Short - long When playing content on luminous textile details are not visible. Only the essence of the animation will be transferred to surprise. 21
Ambient lighting Lower lighting level surroundings Luminous textile is best used in lower lighting level surroundings (< lx). Ceiling applications work best in < lx environments. (textile depending) During higher lighting intensities the panel is still of great aesthetical value due to Kvadrat design textiles! 22
Environment and textile Day night dark grey white fabrics Daylight has a big effect on the saturation and the visibility of the content. Make sure there is no direct sunlight falling on the panels as it will mask the light output. In dark environments any textile can be used. In spaces with a lot of ambient light dark textiles are preferred. The darker panels do not reflect as much light as the white and give a more saturated color and increased contrast. 23
24 Textile influence Effect of fabrics
Resolution (it s not low resolution content!) The image resolution is the actual amount of pixels used to create the image. Combined with pixels per inch (the density of pixels) and the distance to the object you get a combination of sharpness and total amount of information. The right type of diffusion can however ad a similar results. It s not possible to show more information then the actual pixels you have... or is it? 25
Resolution (it s not low resolution content!) By using advanced algorithms on the original high definition content it is possible to create much better diffused low resolution output. Our Content Manager software uses optimized algorithms to create the best results for luminous textile. Advise: Use source content min 5x larger than the panel resolution. SD (Standard Definition) can be of convenient use. For streaming pixel mapping applications it is advised to use a min 5 pixel spacing and to enable 3 rd party available smoothing options. 26
Softness Details vs soft & blurry When playing content on luminous textile details are not visible. Only the essence of the animation will be transferred to the users: the contrast of light and shadows the colors, the movement the shapes and contours Content should be selected on atmosphere, not on content details. Some elements in our life are naturally blurred. Light through curtains, light spots on a wall, reflection and shadows. To achieve a capturing effect try to look around and spot a combination of light, animation and shape. 27 Use detailed content and let luminous textile do the diffusion for best results.
Composition Positioning and golden ratios Showing a part of your content can have a big effect on the end result. Content Manager allows you to make a fixed composition per play list. This allows you to use a single piece of content in multiple play lists, in different compositions. Getting the right composition will enhance the content experience. 28
29
30
Aspect ratio and dimensions Content Manager software allows you to change the aspect ratio of content per playlist. Use this with care. 31
Length, looping and limits Ensure smooth looping by Loopable video s Fading in Content Manager Create multiple video elements for more flexibility Video length limit: Pending many variables, but several hours 32
Formats Content Manager software supports Format:.wmv files (Windows Media Video v9) Codec: VC-1 Bit rate: average 1Mbps (standard quality) Key frame: 1s. interval Frame rate: free (25 fps by default) 33
