1 Course Title Course Number Grade Instructor Date Assignment Creative Photography I Jarmoszko 1.10 & 1.11 of 2017 A19- Macrophotography Assignment DIRECTIONS Preface For this assignment, you will be taking of small things in the art of Macrophotography. This assignment has two components. For the first part of the assignment, you will be responsible for learning and how to use Aperture on your cameras. You will be quizzed on the Aperture vocabulary terms at the end of the page. For the second component of the assignment, you will be required to take 5 Macro- and turn them in for a grade. Time will be given in class for you to practice using Aperture Mode on your cameras as well as edit your to your liking. Instructions Please note: re will be TWO separate grades associated with this assignment. One grade, a quiz grade, for PART 1, and the other grade, an assignment grade worth 100 points, for PART 2. quiz grade will be determined by percentage of questions correctly answered, and the assignment by the rubric. PART 1 1) This assignment involves the art of Macrophotography, taking pictures of very small things and making them appear large. We will go over in class several examples of Macro-pictures. 2) Your task is to turn in a total of 5 macro- with a composition of your choice. Subject matters that typically make for good macro- include: water droplets, insects/animals, plants and flowers, jewelry, etc. 3) In order to engage in the art of Macrophotography, it is necessary to have a good of how to utilize a camera s Aperture and Macro Mode. Time will be give in class on January 10th for A Days and January 11th for B Day on how to use each of these settings. 4) re will be a quiz on Aperture terms and Macro Mode in class on January 17th for A Days and January 18th for B Days. tes and handouts will be available for you to study online and on the server. PART 2 5) After taking the Macrophotography quiz, time will be given in class for you to take Macro-pictures using your Aperture Mode and Macro Mode. Your pictures must demonstrate an of both of these camera settings. 6) You will be given class time to edit your pictures to your liking.
2 7) You must turn in 5 for a grade into the server by January 31st for A Days and February 1st for B Days. Please drag your photos into the A19-Macro Photos folder in your class s server group. Label each one of your pictures, Lastname_Firstname_A19. 3 APERTURE & USING MACRO MODE APERTURE: A circular opening that limits the quantity of light that can enter an optical instrument. It is, in a camera, adjustable via the lens. A camera s Aperture affects how much light the camera sees. SMALL VS. WIDE APERTURE: wideness of a camera s Aperture influences how much light the camera sensor sees. SMALL: When the Aperture is very small to the point that the camera blades are practically closed, less light is allowed into the camera. WIDE: A wide, open Aperture allows much light into the camera. WIDE APERTURE APERTURE DIAGRAM SMALL APERTURE CONTROLLING DEPTH-OF-FIELD: Perhaps the most important part of Aperture is the fact that Aperture controls a photoʼs depth-of-field. " DEPTH-OF-FIELD is the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects " judged to be in focus/out of focus in an image. It controls what areas of a picture " are blurry and what areas are in focus. " " A shallow depth-of-field is conducive to pictures where the subject is in " " focus, but the background is blurry. A wide Aperture can result in a shallow!! depth-of-field. " " A full depth-of-field is conducive to where the whole picture " " is in focus. A small Aperture can result in a full depth-of-field.
4 MACRO-MODE: Macro-Mode is a specific setting on a camera which allows the lens to focus on objects in closer proximity to it than normal. It allows the photographer to take close-up that are entirely in focus and in detail. " It is most commonly symbolized as a flower. PRACTICE AND EXAMPLES SMALL VS. WIDE APERTURE & F-STOP: Take a look at this lens. Aperture of the lens is very wide; the lens s Aperture hole is widely-opened, and thus will allow much light in. Take a look at another lens. Aperture of this lens is very small; the lens s Aperture hole is practically closed, and thus will allow little light in. This type of Aperture would have a large F-Stop, such as F-22.
5 CONTROLLING DEPTH-OF-FIELD: This photograph has a very shallow depth-of-field; not everything is in focus. Thus, it would have been taken with a wide Aperture. This photograph has a full depth-of-field; practically everything is in focus. Thus, it would have been taken with a small Aperture and a high F-Stop.
