1 Subject: Models/Years Affected: Origination Date: Revision Date: N/A UI Bulletin #127 Adding/deleting a Rear View Camera to a Box Delete (ZW9) or Chassis Cab Vehicle 2015i Chevrolet Silverado 2015i GMC Sierra w/zw9 Box Delete or Chassis Cab July 21, 2015 ADVISORY: Condition/Concern: Many Upfitters and customers have expressed a desire for the rear vision camera feature on a vehicle that has had an after-market body mounted to the vehicle. Beginning with the 2015i Full size pick-up trucks, the necessary wiring content was included on all vehicles with the Pick up box delete option (ZW9) to enable the installation of a camera. Repair/Recommendation: To add a rear vision camera to a vehicle not equipped, but built after September 2014 and having the RPO AVF, you ll need to use a service replacement camera assembly P/N Activation of the Rear Vision Feature will require a reprogramming by a GM Service Center of either the radio or the Human Machine Interface (HMI) module. On vehicle s equipped with the base radio option (RPO IO3) the radio will need to be reprogrammed, and on vehicles equipped with the IO4 or IO5 radio options, the HMI module will need to be reprogrammed. The radio/module reprogramming should completed PRIOR to mounting the camera, as the display will need to be activated in order to obtain a good rearview display coverage area. Dealers should contact TCSC to have a special Rear Vision Camera option (RWR) added to the vehicle s configuration index (VCI). RWR is a special option/calibration developed especially for adding a rear camera to a vehicle with a service body Once the VCI is updated, reprogram the appropriate module based on the radio option code. 2 The service replacement camera comes mounted is a bracket assembly (see figure 1) Service replacement Camera asm. Figure 1 The bracket needs to be removed and discarded. Remove the camera by removing the 2 screws as shown in figure 2, Remove these 2 screws to separate camera from bracket Figure 2 Discard this bracket asm. Once the bracket is removed, the camera becomes a stand-alone component (refer to figure 3). This camera can now be mounted in an upfitter provided bracket/housing for mounting to the vehicle. 3 Camera w/o bracket Figure 3 Mounting the Camera To determine the best mounting location use of following information is recommended in order to obtain the proper Field Of View (FOV) on the video display. The specifications for the Target Cylinders are provide in figure 4). Note the difference between A-E verses that of F&G. Targets A-E have an upper band that wraps around the top of the Cylinder and the F&G Targets have a vertical strip on the side. Targets F&G are place at the rear corners of the vehicle at the specified distances with the vertical stripes facing inward towards the center line of the vehicle. 6 Samples of Rear View Images Acceptable IO3 Radio Image balanced percentage of targets in view Figure 6 In this image, the horizontal FOV is wide enough to show adequate amount of targets 1.52m to each side, BUT lacks vertical FOV the distant (6m) targets are truncated. IO3 systems truncate 14 pixels from the top and bottom of the image (to fit the screen other infotainment systems stretch the image to fit the screen), making vertical FOV more challenging for IO3. Note: The IO3 image does not meet the image requirements for MVSS #111 and also does not support the guidelines as shown. Bulletin #127 P a g e 6 July 21, 2015

8 Figure 8 For the IO4/5 ZW9 box delete vehicles the guidelines (shown above in Figure 8) will also be disabled as the vehicle centerline point of reference to camera mount location may not be accurate with respect to that of the image displayed and therefore the guideline overlay may not properly represent the vehicles travel path. Figure 9 REAR CAMERA RELOCATION/DELETE RELOCATION If performing a box removal equipped with a rearview camera use of the existing camera is applicable. However on a IO4/05 radio application the HMI module must be reprogrammed with the RWR option, replacing the UVC option code to remove the guidelines shown in Figure 8. DELETE If not planning to use the rear camera (if equipped) after a box removal the radio and/or HMI module should be reprogrammed without the UVC factory option to prevent the dash display from blanking out when backing the vehicle.
