6 FA L L E M T I N S TA G R A M P R O G R A M + Explore Minnesota Tourism partnered with three Minnesota-based Instagrammers to share photos featuring the three main colors of fall. + The three Instagrammers posted fall content during a six-week campaign timeframe, Sept. 16-Oct They encouraged their followers to share their fall photos with hashtag, #exploremn for a chance to be featured. + EMT s digital ecosystem and paid drivers were leveraged to create awareness and participation COLLE+McVOY 6

A hashtag is a phrase prefixed with the # symbol. 16 H A S H TA G S + If other users search the hashtag applied to a photo, (e.g. #onlyinmn) the photo will show up as part of that hashtag gallery COLLE+McVOY 16
17 I N S TA G R A M D I R E C T + Follow steps At step 3, select the option to share to direct. + Add a caption if desired. + Select the users (up to 15) that you d like to send the image to. + Hit send COLLE+McVOY 17
18 E N G A G E M E N T R E P O S T I N G C O N T E N T + Reposting content from other Instagrammers allows a business to engage with other users and share relevant photos and videos they otherwise might not have had access to. + Businesses can repost favorite images/videos shared by other users with the InstaRepost or Repost for Instagram apps. These apps allow users to repost content while automatically attributing it to the original author. + When reposting through the app, the author s username is superimposed on the image shared with your followers COLLE+McVOY 18
19 R E P O S T I N G B E S T P R A C T I C E S + It is important to give credit to the original author by tagging their username in the caption. + Ensure the username is featured in the caption if sharing the image across other social channels. + Repost images that are tagged with # yourhashtag + Include a reposting disclaimer in your Instagram bio e.g., Tag your photos with #YourHashtag to give us permission to repost COLLE+McVOY 19
20 G A I N I N G F O L L O W E R S + Businesses can gain followers by connecting with users who post relevant content. Liking, commenting and following other users can result in them following your account. Engagement also will catch the awareness of other users, who may then follow the account. + Raise awareness by leveraging current properties (website, e-newsletters, Facebook, Twitter) to announce the account Instagram accounts can be linked directly to Twitter and Facebook accounts allowing cross-posting between Instagram and other social networks. The Instagram Feed app for Facebook allows pages to include a tab on the page that automatically populates and features their Instagram content. + Businesses can also follow current partners or other influential and relevant on Instagram Connect with others by visiting their websites and looking for links to their Instagram accounts, or by using the in-app search functionality COLLE+McVOY 20
