Adelaide 2015 attendance was almost 12,900 on Sunday and a total of 26,000 people over 3 days. [Note: Children s faces may be recognisable in the photos. 2 Making Sherbet Activity Photos are of setting and the first few sherbetmakers before it got really busy. Making your own sherbet from citric acid, bicarb soda, icing sugar and jelly crystals was a big success. Two tables allowed up to 6 people to make sherbet at once. [Note: The children in the photos (Zali and Olivia) have permission for sharing images for RACI purposes.] (4) (5) Chromatography Activity In keeping with the theme of colour and light, chromatography of felt tip pen colours was fun and colourful activity that children of all ages could try. 3 Periodic Table Art Activity Choose your favourite element to decorate and post on the RACI board to create a communal periodic table artwork. Olivia chose Oxygen as her favourite element because without it we would die. Zali chose Berkelium as her favourite element because it is named after where she was born, Berkeley, California. [Note: The children in the photos (Zali and Olivia) have Periodic Table Art Activity One of the completed periodic tables generated via a colouring competition. The winners! The entrants were divided into two groups; under 10 years old and 10 or older.

4 Art display for International Year of Light An art display of molecules, light and colour was included to showcase science art from light in International Year of Light. The exhibition is titled Quantum Conversations Art of Fluorescence Sherbet activity table with art displays (molecular fluorescence and periodic table art) in background. Zali and Olivia helping with the sherbet activity so kids are teaching kids about chemistry. [Note: The children in the photo (Zali and Olivia) have Art display at RACI stand, as part of National Science Week and International Year of Light, being viewed by Zali and Olivia. Olivia s T shirt captures the 2015 National Science Week logo. [Note: The children in the photo (Zali and Olivia) have Chemistry Show The RACI in collaboration with Flinders University entertained audiences with some Chemistry fun that centred around the theme of light and colours in chemical reactions. The show was hosted by Dr Justin Chalker sporting a bright yellow lab coat. Traffic light reaction the big screen let everyone see the chemistry close up, making fluorescent slime, luminol reaction produced an eerie blue luminescence when luminol and bleach reacted together.

5 Chemistry Show Finale The show ended with a big bang with the explosion of hydrogen filled balloons. Metal salts were added into the balloons to produce a fireworks colours such as copper(ii) chloride giving green light and lithium chloride giving red light. Following the show the audience was invited back to the RACI booth to play with the fluorescent slime.
