2 Product news NEW COMCOLOR TM EXPRESS RIP FOR HC5500 RISO recently introduced its new IS700C RIP for the HC5500 full color printer. Combined with the HC5500, the ComColor Express RIP demonstrates an array of new features that enhance productivity and output quality, in addition to increasing the variety of applications that the printer can produce. In addition to an even faster ripping speed, the new RIP offers Advanced Archive Editing that enables users to merge multiple jobs and file types into one print job; the option to create custom color profiles with the Color Profile Upload capability; a print queue feature through which files can be dragged and dropped directly into hot folder for immediate printing; new scanning features that allow documents to be scanned into , shared folder, or FTP; Queue Settings and Codes so users can register frequently used print settings for standardized work flows and set codes to restrict access to the printer; and PPML, PCL, and Raw printing capabilities for variable data, transactional, or trans-promotional applications. AR9000 HIGH-SPEED ENVELOPE FEEDER For a detailed product information, please visit our Web site, 2 RISO recently developed and introduced the AR9000 high-speed Envelope Feeder. Designed for RISO s MZ790, RZ990, and RZ590 digital duplicators, this new device combines the digital duplicator s capability for high-speed printing (ranging between 130 and 180 prints per minute) with production printing of envelopes and card stock. The AR9000 s top-load, bottomfeed mechanism allows for continuous feeding of a variety of stocks. The AR9000 is so versatile that it can easily adjust to handle a variety of envelope sizes, from 3.5" x 5.5" to 10" x 13". There is also an optional conveyor, increasing productivity by allowing envelopes to be removed without stopping the print process. The AR9000 is extremely easy to use and can be connected and disconnected in seconds, making it adaptable to various production settings. The feeder simply rolls away when you want to use the digital duplicator stand alone to print a limitless variety of applications, including forms, letterhead, business cards, greeting cards, tickets, flyers, and much, much more. 4 RISO news RISO digital duplicators are substantial energy savers even when compared to other ENERGY STAR rated printing and photocopying products; in a side-by-side comparison of a RISO digital duplicator and an ENERGY STAR rated photocopier, the digital duplicator resulted in a 95% energy cost savings over the photocopier. RISO DIGITAL DUPLICATORS EARN ENERGY STAR RATING RISO, Inc. recently announced that its digital duplicator products have earned the ENERGY STAR rating. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that helps individuals and businesses save money and protect the environment by choosing energy efficient products and practices that have been certified as ENERGY STAR compliant. RISO digital duplicators employ a plate-based inkon-paper technology that eliminates the extreme heat and high power consumption required by photocopiers and toner-based printers, offering an environmentally friendly alternative that is also significantly less expensive to operate. They require as little as 3.5 amps of electrical current and use about the same energy as four 100-watt light bulbs when producing copies. RISO digital duplicators are substantial energy savers even when compared to other ENERGY STAR-rated printing and photocopying products; in a side-by-side comparison of a RISO digital duplicator and an ENERGY STAR rated photocopier, the digital duplicator resulted in a 95% energy cost savings over the photocopier. In addition to their low energy usage, the lack of heat in the printing process eliminates the need for compensatory cooling, further reducing energy consumption and cost. This reduction in energy consumption in turn further reduces the digital duplicator s carbon footprint the amount of carbon dioxide emitted through combustion of fossil fuels that leads to ozone depletion. RISO digital duplicators are environmentally friendly in other ways. They use soybased ink, and print on a variety of recycled paper stocks that many printers and photocopiers can t handle. They are extremely reliable, requiring fewer maintenance calls, and their long life reduces the amount of waste going into landfills. 5 RISO news RISO DONATES PRINTING POWER TO HELP RECOVER AMERICA S MISSING CHILDREN RISO put its printing power to work in an effort to find missing children across America. RISO recently printed more than 50,000 full color posters with photos and information about missing children. Posters were put up in communities across America by teams participating in the inaugural The Insurance Office of America FIREBALL RUN Transcontinental Rally. The nine-day event, which covered 3,500 miles from Orlando to Los Angeles, was held September 28 through October 7. RISO s poster donation benefits the Child Rescue Network, the official charity of the event that is being called the Race to Recover America s Missing Children. Sixty-five teams were expected to participate in the rally. Each one was assigned a different missing child, whose image and information were affixed to the vehicle, creating a highly visible rolling milk carton along the course. An important part of the teams responsibility was to distribute as many posters as possible along the journey from Orlando to Los Angeles, raising visibility and awareness of these children at every opportunity. According to the Child Rescue Network, on the average day 91 children are reported missing every single hour. One in six missing children is rescued as a result of someone recognizing them from a picture or poster. We are proud to put the power of our printing technology behind efforts to help recover these children, said David Murphy, Vice President of Marketing for RISO, Inc. The ability to hand out 50,000 posters along the 3,500 miles of the rally is phenomenal. We are very hopeful that we can help bring some missing children home because of this effort. RISO s donation means a great deal to us, and enables us to use our resources in funding other aspects of protecting children and rescuing America s missing, said Jeff Griesemer, President and CEO, Child Rescue Network, Inc. The posters were printed in full color on RISO s high speed HC5500 ComColor Printer. Murphy estimates that it took less than seven hours to produce all 50,000 pieces. The Child Rescue Network, Inc. (CRN) is a 501(c)(3) taxexempt organization dedicated to protecting children. Through private donations and corporate sponsorships, CRN offers a variety of free community outreach programs and family advocacy services. With the holiday season quickly approaching, it is almost time to start thinking about holiday cards, invitations, postcards, envelopes, and flyers. While others are busy searching for an efficient and inexpensive outside source that will offer high-quality holiday prints, remember that a RISO digital duplicator may be able to help. 8 Duplicator Tips and Tricks Blank Streaks The blank streaks that may show up on your prints are a signal that the thermal head needs to be cleaned. Begin by sliding the top lid of your RISO machine to the left, then open the unit to expose the masters. Locate the black metal strip on the lifted part of the master unit, and wipe it gently with a soft cloth. receiving expressions Did you receive this newsletter from a friend and would like to subscribe own copy? Push the cartridge plunger until ink comes out of the end of the cartridge (about 1/4"). Press and hold the Proof/Test button until you see that the ink is transferred onto paper.
