1 Introducing the MZ990 Reference # 675 October 20, 2008 We have great news! RISO is pleased to introduce our newest digital duplicator; the MZ990. With the introduction of this innovative new model RISO delivers added features and benefits to markets requiring finer print quality, fast print speeds, versatility and cost containment. RISO is offering the best of both worlds with the MZ990, as it is a combination of the imaging quality of the RZ990, and ease of two color one pass printing of the MZ790. The MZ990 is the perfect complement to our existing digital duplicator line-up offering a second 150 pages per minute ledger size, high-end two-color, onepass device with built-in GDI in addition to improved imaging and printing quality. Improved Image Quality: The MZ990 combines easy high-speed two-color printing with true 600 x 600 dpi imaging and printing capabilities to ensure the finest details on even the tiniest of fonts and finest photo gradations. Using the same HD masters and HD black ink as the RZ990, the MZ990 creates a deeper, richer solids for an even more professional look. Two-color printing is as simple as printing in one color. This model is ideal for print service providers and in-plants requiring superior print quality in dual color for applications such as letterhead, envelopes, greeting cards, flyers and more. Why 600 x 600 dpi: A true 600 dpi system scans 600 dots per inch and prints one dot for every dot scanned. The significance of a 600 x 600 dpi is that it represents the best image quality available for digital duplicators. Our 600 dpi technology is the right solution for application driven customers where print quality is of primary importance. 1

2 The Importance of Color: The 8.5 x 11 postcards above compares a single-color black image compared to a twocolor black and red. Simply adding red to the black and white document draws attention to key information. The use of color creates a focal point, adds excitement and in this particular case may lead to more gross profit for a business. The impact of color is immeasurable. In this particular sample, RISO s CS2000 software was the application software used to easily add red to an existing document. 4 RISO Editor- Allows an operator to scan an original, easily and precisely edit the hard copy original, make color separations, move images, and any necessary changes directly from the touch screen. This feature allows you to make final changes to the document and save paper. Through the preview function you can also select last minute areas to add color. Line/Photo/Duo and Pencils Modes- Select from line, photo duo or pencil modes. Line mode is best for text-only documents, photo mode is better for photos or illustrations, and duo mode gives the optimum result for documents that are a mix of text and photos. Pencil mode is optimized for illustrations drawn in pencil or that are faint. In photo mode there is a choice of three modes: Standard, Portrait and Group. Standard mode is the basic setting designed to give excellent results with the majority of photos. Portrait mode is optimized for close-up head shots, for clear gradations of skin tones resulting in superbly lifelike output. Group photo mode is uses a special algorithm to clearly show faces in group photos, so subjects can easily pick themselves out. Pencil mode is used for illustrations that are often faint and need to be made darker and more clearly defined. 4

5 Document storage- Document storage lets you scan and store items such as letterheads and forms that you use frequently. You can recall the data at a touch of a button, saving time needed to scan the document every time you need it. * Requires a DM128-CF card Stamp- This function is for two-color printing only and lets you print letterheads on a document. Just recall the data and it is automatically overlaid on the master along with the scanned document. * Requires a DM128-CF card Overlay- This function is for one-color printing only and lets you add backgrounds, forms, or templates to a document. Just recall the data and it is automatically overlaid on the master along with the scanned document. * Requires a DM128-CF card Confidential Mode- Protect confidential documents by running a confidential master to eliminate previous print jobs from being recovered. New locking mechanisms on master disposal boxes have been created for additional security measures. Rotate 90 - Similar to the function found on copiers, this rotates the print area by 90 to match the paper orientation. So you re assured successful printing no matter whether the paper is loaded in portrait or landscape orientation. What s more, the function operates when reducing or enlarging, (standard paper sizes only) to best fit the print area to your chosen paper size. CS2000 Software- The MZ990 comes standard with CS2000 software for color separating documents on a PC and sending print jobs directly to the device for two color printing. This software allows the user to utilize a variety of design tools to select areas to add color to a document. Once an area is selected you can designate the desired color for each selected area. Methods of Color Separation- With the MZ990, you can automatically separate the colors from hard copy or directly from an electronic file. This device, like the MZ790, is unique in that it no longer requires two separate originals when printing from hard copy. With the Easy 2 Color function there are four methods for color separation from a single original. Preview and RISO Editor are two features that allow the user to view and make last minute changes to add another cost benefit. 5

Handwritten Separation- with a one color original you can write the data you want printed in the second color by hand. Then you simply scan and the colors will automatically separate. Area Separation- on a one color original just circle the areas for printing in the second color. Then scan your marked original and the color separation process happens automatically. Separation Sheet- with area separation, you have to mark the original. If you don t wish to write on your original, simply circle the area for printing on in the second color on a separate sheet of paper and scan twice for color separation.
