3 Biographical Information Paul W. Zdepski B:1962, during the Cuban Missle Crisis Raised in New Jersey, USA UARTS in Philadelphia, PA, USA Member: Artist s Cartel (founder), Illustrators Club of DC, Shenandoah Arts Council Married since 1988, two kids, two dogs, four fish Web presence: Paul has been in the arts since his first published book and album cover in 1979 while in high school. He has worked on numerous high profile public artworks that stand in New York, New Jersey and Japan. He s a prolific painter, working in oil, acrylic and graphite on board, paper or panel. His pieces often begin with plastilina sculptures of the subject matter. The subject matter of his most current is influenced by his social views, calling upon his early painting influences in German Expressionism and American Abstract Expressionism merged with his strong representational leanings. Zdepski s has a long history of portraiture, landscape and figurative work found in collections nation wide. 11 I have nothing scripted or researched to tell the viewer about why I do this. I hate to sound deep, since I don t believe I fit into the term painter too much content in the imagery to be cerebral, not enough ambiguity for the seasoned critic to be intrigued. backcover: book of monstors [sic] graphite on checkbook stubs. My bedroom was in the basement dark grey walls in the middle of the day sunlight trying to filter though the grimy, small windows in the window-well, black and tomb-like at night. The open, rough-framed and riserless stairwell added to the terror as I climbed, petrified of the monster s hands reaching out for my ankles,...devouring me under the stairs I refused to climb them at night, and bounded them in the daylight, three or four at a time. At night, if I made it down the hallway, past the chest freezer, wood pile and water tank to the bottom of the stairs, I would stand at the bottom, staring up to the door at the top light filtering around the edges legs refusing to move, bladder bursting. I wet the bed rather than face the terror. My sister and mother, fighting their own demons, would repeat the mantra of the end-times Israel s in another war riots in Newark, Camden Trenton is only thirty miles away....living in fear of the second-coming, Soviet bombers at the head of every contrail coming out of NYC A flash on the horizon, either Gabriel or the H-Bomb.
