1 America s most famous 20th century artist. He studied commercial art in Pittsburgh before moving to New York and a career in magazine illustration and advertising. During the 1950s, he began to be known for work outside of illustration, especially ink drawings of shoe advertisements, and slowly built a reputation as a controversial artist. He held exhibitions at smaller New York and West Coast galleries, introducing works that have since become icons dollar bills, Campbell s soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles as well images of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor. He was a founding figure of the Pop Art movement. In the 1970s he became less radical and more entrepreneurial. He spent much of his time canvassing new, rich patrons for portrait commissions including the Shah of Iran, Mick Jagger, Liza Minnelli, John Lennon and Diana Ross. He worked in collaboration with assistants and other artists, notably at his studio The Factory ; actually three successive locations in Manhattan. The Factory became a hangout for musicians, photographers, filmmakers, artists, intellectuals and wannabes. He worked intensively using silkscreens to mass-produce images. Musician John Cale said It wasn t called the Factory for nothing. It was where the assembly line for the silkscreens happened. While one person was making a silkscreen, somebody else would be filming a screen test. Every day something new.

5 It s hard to believe that for Danny Minnick art has only been a passion for the last few years. Painting provided a creative alternative to skateboarding after an injury, and after a breakout solo show in 2011, Minnick rapidly rose to fame in the contemporary art world. Just a few years on, he is now a highly collected artist. Minnick s work features in the collections of celebrities such as basketball star LeBron James, American filmmakers Nick Cassavetes and Gus Van Sant, musicians Fred Durst and Jamie Hince, and actresses Mena Suvari and Jessica Alba. Danny Minnick grew up in Seattle, landing a successful career as a professional skateboarder in his early teenage years. However, a career-ending Achilles tendon injury led his life in another direction. Amazon awarded it The Best Art and Photography book of Alongside Rizzoli, David launched the book in a series of events across the world in the last quarter of 2016, including exhibitions at Fotografiska in Stockholm, Leonhard s Gallery in Antwerp, Holden Luntz in Palm Beach and at London s Somerset House. In April 2017 at the annual Tusk Gala in NYC, David s images raised $175,000 at auction, including two lots which sold for $50,000 each, very much cementing his status as one of the most coveted artists in his field.

11 Mr. Brainwash often abbreviated to MBW is a name used by Los Angeles-based filmmaker and street artist Thierry Guetta who was born in Garges les Gonesse, France, in Guetta s uniformly subversive style fuses historic pop imagery and contemporary cultural iconography to create his version of a pop graffiti art hybrid first popularized by other street artists. Working primarily with layers of screenprint and stenciled images, his compositions are emblematic of a graffiti wall inundated with 20th century iconography. He is both sly and playful in his juxtaposition of the cultural idols of the past (Einstein, Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe) with the icons of today (Kate Moss, Madonna). 19 Twins Franklyn and Brendan Connor were brought up within a secretive and highly controversial cult known as The Family. Born out of the hippy movement in 1968 and founded by David Berg The Family was an extreme Christian cult whose members believed in something called The System. Other children brought up within the cult include the actors River and Joaquin Phoenix. As children the twins were deprived of access to information from outside of their commune. Without access to mainstream media their knowledge of the world was limited to the teachings and interactions they gained from other cult members. At sixteen the boys turned their backs on The Family and ran away from home. After several years riding the freight trains they settled in the Brooklyn area of New York. Having been starved of information for so many years Franklyn and Brendan were initially overwhelmed by the outside world but soon developed an insatiable curiosity and a remark- able appetite to learn. They developed a system whereby each of them would read, watch and discover things independently and then share them with one another via a series of notebooks and sketchpads. This interaction developed into making art together, a process they describe as trying to make sense of the world. Their often humorous work is steeped in references to both historical and popular culture and presents an almost anthropological view of contemporary western society. Now in their early twenties the twins split their time between New York and Missouri. The Connor Brothers are fictional characters created by the artists known as the Connor Brothers.
