1 Little is known officially about the artist Banksy, who prefers a degree of anonymity and guards his privacy carefully. Rumoured according to a Daily Mail investigation to have been born in 1973 to a respectable Bristol, UK, family and then privately educated, he is known for his work rather than his personality. His became noticed in Bristol as a graffiti artist in the early 1990 s. His technique incorporates freehand work, stencils and spray paint. He claims he was converted to stenciling as a quick-getaway technique when hiding from police under a truck, where he noticed its stencilled serial number. Banksy s stencils feature striking and humorous images, often with anti-war, anticapitalist or anti-establishment slogans. Subjects frequently include rats, apes, policemen, bombs, soldiers and children. His prowess as a street artist drew the attention of the mainstream art business and in 2002 he had a small exhibition in the 33⅓ Gallery in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles. Banksy s work began appearing at fine art auctions, where it attracted bids well over the high estimates, and sold to celebrity collectors such as Christina Aguilera, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. One measure of the way Banksy has moved from the street to the investment market is the mobile home story. In 2008 a couple from Norfolk, UK, decided to sell their mobile home. A decade earlier Banksy had asked if he could use the side of their home as a large canvas. In thanks he gave them two tickets to the Glastonbury Music Festival. Consequently, their home features a 30-foot mural, entitled Fragile Silence. The mobile home bought by the couple 11 years earlier for 1,000 GBP, was being sold for 500,000. Another sign of his respectability he contributed a work Protect From All Elements to a charity sale organised by Leonardo de Caprio. The high estimate was $100,000. It sold for $315,000.

4 Contemporary artist Dan Baldwin is at the forefront of the Young British movement. Coming from the same abrasive, two-fingered salute school as peers such as Banksy, Tracey Emin and The Chapman Brothers, over the last decade he has quietly built a reputation to match. Today, Baldwin is an established figure in the art world, exhibiting globally. Dan Baldwin is an art investment favourite, and has an extremely passionate following. Celebrity collectors include Bernie Ecclestone, Sir Ronald Cohen, Jake Chapman and Jo Whiley among others. Influential artists such as Damien Hirst, Gilbert & George and Peter Blake also collect Baldwin s work and credit him as a key influencer of his generation. In addition, his work is found in prominent collections and institutions around the world. Looking at Dan s work is like meeting old friends for me, Sir Peter Blake once said. It s fascinating to see Mickey and all the chaps used in a newer different way. Why buy Dan Baldwin art as an investment - If you re considering a contemporary art investment, it would be wise to buy Dan Baldwin art as an asset. In 2008, his piece Apocalypse Wow The End of Everything sold for more than 25,000, a price which set a record at the time for Bonham s first urban art auction. 6 Damien Hirst art is synonymous with the Young British movement, and renowned for its controversial take on death, science and beauty. He is one of the greatest provocateurs in recent art history, polarizing popular opinions. Catching the attention of the public and critics from the very outset of his career, Hirst positioned himself at the centre of the art world, and his work commands some of the highest prices on the market. As a leading artist of his generation, Hirst shows no signs of slowing down now. In this decade alone, solo exhibitions have been held in Venice, Washington, Oslo, Doha, London, Thessaloniki, Copenhagen, Florence and Monte Carlo. His works are also held in the collections of the Tate Gallery in London, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the Rubell Family Collection in Miami. n September 2008, Hirst made an unprecedented move by selling a complete show, Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, at Sotheby s by auction, bypassing his long-standing galleries. Selling 218 items in total, Hirst raised $198 million, more than tenfold the previous record for a one-artist auction. If you are looking to invest in Damien Hirst art, please pay us a visit at Maddox Gallery. We re honoured to hold works by the established artist, and our Sotheby s-trained art consultants are on hand to tell you more about the pieces we carry.

33 Harland Miller is a writer and artist, best known for his satirical paintings of reimagined Penguin classics. Bringing together aspects of pop art, abstract and figurative painting, large-scale photorealism and a writer s love of words, Miller is rewriting the definition of fine art. Celebrity collectors include pop star Ed Sheeran, actress Rachel Weisz, supermodel Brooklyn Decker and interior designer Tara Bernerd. And, naturally, Harland Miller art also features in the corporate collection of Penguin Random House. Miller s unique take on classic literary iconography has gathered enormous demand, and works have sold at auction for double their estimate price. As a result, many collectors and admirers are looking to buy Harland Miller art as an investment. Here at Maddox Gallery, we are delighted to stock his work. Born in Yorkshire, Miller has travelled extensively, with time spent living in New York, Paris and Berlin before he returned to the UK to study at the Chelsea College of Art. Described as an it guy, his friendship group includes the likes of renowned art dealer Jay Jopling and musician Jarvis Cocker. As friend and artist Max Wigram claims, Harland never follows fashion, fashion has followed him. Miller first achieved critical acclaim with his writing. His debut novel, Slow down Arthur, Stick to Thirty (2000), featured a kid who travels around northern England with a David Bowie impersonator. In the same year, Miller published the novella, First I was Afraid, I was Petrified, based on the true story of a female relative with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

40 Twins Franklyn and Brendan Connor were brought up within a secretive and highly controversial cult known as The Family. Born out of the hippy movement in 1968 and founded by David Berg The Family was an extreme Christian cult whose members believed in something called The System. Other children brought up within the cult include the actors River and Joaquin Phoenix. As children the twins were deprived of access to information from outside of their commune. Without access to mainstream media their knowledge of the world was limited to the teachings and interactions they gained from other cult members. At sixteen the boys turned their backs on The Family and ran away from home. After several years riding the freight trains they settled in the Brooklyn area of New York. Having been starved of information for so many years Franklyn and Brendan were initially overwhelmed by the outside world but soon developed an insatiable curiosity and a remark- able appetite to learn. They developed a system whereby each of them would read, watch and discover things independently and then share them with one another via a series of notebooks and sketchpads. This interaction developed into making art together, a process they describe as trying to make sense of the world. Their often humorous work is steeped in references to both historical and popular culture and presents an almost anthropological view of contemporary western society. Now in their early twenties the twins split their time between New York and Missouri. The Connor Brothers are fictional characters created by the artists known as the Connor Brothers.

56 Mark Evans is an incredibly talented London-based artist who has embraced leather as a new sculpting medium, etching with blades to create a truly stunning effect. Evans started his artistic career in early childhood. Born in the Welsh countryside, he was given his first knife by his granddad when he was seven, and used it to carve images into the bark of trees around the farm. After studying fine art in London, and dedicating his time to more conventional materials such as charcoals, oils, and acrylics, he came back to carving in a happy mistake. It was pre-millennium and there was a digital revolution in the air, the YBA had exploded onto the British art scene. I was told by my professor that painting is dead all this was going on around me, but I couldn t shake my childhood primal desire to play with knives. I was trying to clean a blood stain off a new leather jacket I scratched through the blood into the surface of the jacket, right into the suede or the nap. that tiny etched patch of contrast in the leather suddenly became my own Archimedes eureka moment, as if an explosion went off in my mind. I saw a world of possibilities. Mark Evans Evans rescued the jacket by continuing to etch a portrait of Jimi Hendrix onto the back. Several people, including a buyer from Harrods, stopped him in the street to ask where he had bought it, inspiring the new graduate to follow this path of experimentation. Years later, footballers and other celebrities began commissioning work, while renowned artists such as Tracy Emin praise his work. Mark Evans art is a labour of love

70 Grayson Perry is a contemporary British artist best known for his ceramic vessels, printed tapestries, and design for A House for Essex. His work contains a prominent autobiographical narrative which often features his alter ego, Claire. The narrative chronicles a troubled childhood in which Perry turned to transvestism to find solace. I draw as a collagist, juxtaposing images and styles of mark-making from many sources, he said of his practice. The world I draw is the interior landscape of my personal obsessions and of cultures I have absorbed and adapted, from Latvian folk art to Japanese screens. Born on March 24, 1960 in Chelmsford, United Kingdom, Perry graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic with a BA in fine arts in Enrolling in an evening pottery course, it took the artist only a year before he was creating his signature vases. In 2003, Perry was the first ceramicist to win the Turner Prize. In 2016, his critically acclaimed book The Descent of Man was released to the public, the book calls attention to how rigid masculinity can destroy society. The artist currently lives and works with his wife Philippa Perry in London, United Kingdom. Perry s works are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London.
