3 Banksy Little is known officially about the artist Banksy, who prefers a degree of anonymity and guards his privacy carefully. Rumoured according to a Daily Mail investigation to have been born in 1973 to a respectable Bristol, UK, family and then privately educated, he is known for his work rather than his personality. His became noticed in Bristol as a graffiti artist in the early 1990 s. His technique incorporates freehand work, stencils and spray paint. He claims he was converted to stenciling as a quick-getaway technique when hiding from police under a truck, where he noticed its stencilled serial number. Banksy s stencils feature striking and humorous images, often with anti-war, anti-capitalist or anti-establishment slogans. Subjects frequently include rats, apes, policemen, bombs, soldiers and children. His prowess as a street artist drew the attention of the mainstream art business and in 2002 he had a small exhibition in the 33⅓ Gallery in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles. Banksy s work began appearing at fine art auctions, where it attracted bids well over the high estimates, and sold to celebrity collectors such as Christina Aguilera, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. One measure of the way Banksy has moved from the street to the investment market is the mobile home story. In 2008 a couple from Norfolk, UK, decided to sell their mobile home. A decade earlier Banksy had asked if he could use the side of their home as a large canvas. In thanks he gave them two tickets to the Glastonbury Music Festival. Consequently, their home features a 30-foot mural, entitled Fragile Silence. The mobile home bought by the couple 11 years earlier for 1,000 GBP, was being sold for 500,000. Another sign of his respectability he contributed a work Protect From All Elements to a charity sale organised by Leonardo de Caprio. The high estimate was $100,000. It sold for $315,000. 5 Grayson Perry Grayson Perry is a contemporary British artist best known for his ceramic vessels, printed tapestries, and design for A House for Essex. His work contains a prominent autobiographical narrative which often features his alter ego, Claire. The narrative chronicles a troubled childhood in which Perry turned to transvestism to find solace. I draw as a collagist, juxtaposing images and styles of mark-making from many sources, he said of his practice. The world I draw is the interior landscape of my personal obsessions and of cultures I have absorbed and adapted, from Latvian folk art to Japanese screens. Born on March 24, 1960 in Chelmsford, United Kingdom, Perry graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic with a BA in fine arts in Enrolling in an evening pottery course, it took the artist only a year before he was creating his signature vases. In 2003, Perry was the first ceramicist to win the Turner Prize. In 2016, his critically acclaimed book The Descent of Man was released to the public, the book calls attention to how rigid masculinity can destroy society. The artist currently lives and works with his wife Philippa Perry in London, United Kingdom. Perry s works are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London. 7 The Connor Brothers The Connor Brothers initially entered the art scene as American twins brought up within an extremist Christian cult known as The Family, who escaped to Brooklyn where they began creating artwork in order to make sense of the world they had been deprived of. In October 2014, these characters were revealed as a hoax and Mike Snelle and James Golding revealed themselves as The Connor Brothers. Their artwork has been sold alongside Banksy and Damien Hirst at Christie s and Bonham s. They have also sold out both their solo shows at Maddox Gallery Mayfair in November 2017 and at Maddox Gallery Westbourne Grove in May. The Connor Brothers are known for producing modified versions of pulp fiction paperback covers. Applying satirical rewordings of stereotypical titles, their work is full of references to popular culture and contemporary western society. 18 Damien Hirst Damien Hirst is an English artist, entrepreneur, and art collector. He is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs), who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s. He is reportedly the United Kingdom s richest living artist, with his wealth valued at $284 million ( 215 million) in the 2010 Sunday Times Rich List. Death is a central theme in Hirst s works. He became famous for a series of artworks in which dead animals (including a shark, a sheep and a cow) are preserved - sometimes having been dissected - in formaldehyde.the best known of these was The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living, a 14-foot (4.3 m) tiger shark immersed in formaldehyde in a clear display case. He has also made spin paintings, created on a spinning circular surface, and spot paintings, which are rows of randomly coloured circles created by his assistants. In September 2008, Hirst made an unprecedented move for a living artist by selling a complete show, Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, at Sotheby s by auction and bypassing his long-standing galleries. The auction raised $198 million ( 111 million), breaking the record for a one-artist auction as well as Hirst s own record with $13.6 million ( 10.3 million) for The Golden Calf, an animal with 18-carat gold horns and hooves, preserved in formaldehyde. He is one of the greatest provocateurs in recent art history, polarising popular opinions. Catching the attention of the public and critics from the very outset of his career, Hirst positioned himself at the centre of the art world and his work commands some of the highest prices on the market today. 28 David Yarrow David Yarrow was born in Glasgow, Scotland in He took up photography at an early age and as a twenty-year old he found himself working as a photographer for The London Times on the pitch at the World Cup Final in Mexico City. On that day, Yarrow took the famous picture of Diego Maradona holding the World Cup and as a result, he was subsequently asked to cover the Olympics and numerous other sporting events. However, he refused to be pigeon-holed and his interests expanded as he grew into himself. It was only many years later, that he found his true calling - documenting the natural world - and the last eight years have been career-defining. By the spring of 2017, he had firmly established himself as one of the best-selling fine art photographers in the world, with his limited edition prints (usually just 12 in an edition) regularly selling at over 23,000, and his well-received recent work is now priced even higher. At the Sotheby s photography auction in London in May 2017, Yarrow s iconic image from South Sudan, Mankind, was sold for $75,000 - the highest of the 100 lots in the show - which included work from many of the most recognised photographers of the last 100 years. In 2016, Rizzoli New York published his latest book Wild Encounters with a foreword written by HRH The Duke of Cambridge. The book was awarded Art Book of 2017 by Amazon and has already had a second print run. All Yarrow s royalties from the book continue to be donated to the charity Tusk, the leading British NGO that focuses on animal conservation in Africa. Philanthropy and conservation are indeed central to David Yarrow s mission to document the animal and human world in a fresh and creative way. In 2017, charitable donations from the sale of Yarrow s images already exceeded 460,000, with four of his pieces raising 144,000 in just a few minutes at the Tusk Gala dinner in New York City in April of that year. Yarrow s position in the industry has been rewarded with a wide range of advisory and ambassadorial roles. In conservation, he is an ambassador for Wild Ark and is on the advisory board of Tusk and in luxury goods, he is an ambassador for Bremont watches. Land Rover also recently appointed Yarrow as a new global ambassador. He was a Nikon ambassador for a two-year term from 2015 to 2017 and has most recently been integral to the company s most anticipated camera release of the last decade. His status as an artist and conservationist was confirmed in June 2017 when he was invited for a private lunch with President George W. Bush in Dallas, Texas. In April, David Yarrow s iconic Wolf of Main Street image went up for auction at Sotheby s New York. The work sold for $100,000 setting a new record result for a piece from the series. This record has remarkably since been eclipsed with Yarrow s breathtaking image of a Polar Bear titled 78 Degrees North, which sold for just under $109,000 ( 81,250) at Sotheby s London on 17th of May

39 Harland Miller Harland Miller is a writer and artist, best known for his satirical paintings of reimagined Penguin classics. Bringing together aspects of pop art, abstract and figurative painting, large-scale photorealism and a writer s love of words, Miller is rewriting the definition of fine art. Celebrity collectors include pop star Ed Sheeran, actress Rachel Weisz, supermodel Brooklyn Decker and interior designer Tara Bernerd. Naturally, Harland Miller art also features in the corporate collection of Penguin Random House. Miller s unique take on classic literary iconography has gathered enormous demand, and works have sold at auction for double their estimate price. As a result, many collectors and admirers are looking to buy Harland Miller s art as an investment. For the last two decades, Harland Miller has developed this sardonic take on classic Penguin covers, inventing controversial titles which often cite him as the author, though he sometimes plays on the name of the original writer. His sarcastic titles pay tribute to Britain s tendency towards melancholy nostalgia, seditious socio-political critique, and a curiosity about what words lie behind the book s front cover. Dripped, smudged paint and muted tones give canvases the worn look of a well-read book, with browning pages and peeling spines sometimes visible behind ageing covers. These reimagined classics now enjoy fame in their own right, leading many collectors and celebrities to invest in Harland Miller art. As a result, prices are climbing rapidly, and pieces often far exceed their predicted values. HARLAND MILLER Love Saves The Day Screenprint 2014 Edition of x 41 in / 146 x 105 cm 74 75

43 Marc Quinn Marc Quinn, born in 1964 in England, is a British contemporary visual artist whose work includes sculpture, installation and painting. He spent his early years in Paris before moving back to the UK to study History and History of Art at Robinson College, Cambridge. The artist was a notable member of the Young British Artists movement (YBA), which included Sarah Lucas and Damien Hirst, and was the first artist to be represented by gallerist Jay Jopling in the early 1990 s. During this time, Quinn and several peers were identified for their radical approach to the making and experiencing of art. Quinn explores what it is to be human in the world today through subjects including the body, genetics, identity, environment and the media. His work has used materials that vary widely, from blood, bread and flowers, to marble and stainless steel. His sculpture, paintings and drawings often deal with the distanced relationship we have with our bodies, highlighting how the conflict between the natural and cultural has a grip on the contemporary psyche. Quinn is internationally celebrated and was awarded the commission for the first edition of the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in 2004, for which he exhibited Alison Lapper Pregnant. Quinn s notorious frozen self-portrait series made of his own blood, Self (1991-present) was subject to a retrospective at Fondation Beyeler in Quinn has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Sir John Soane s Museum, Tate, National Portrait Gallery, Fondation Beyeler, Fondazione Prada and South London Gallery MARC QUINN The Ecstatic Autogenesis of Pamela Orbital sanded and flap wheeled lacquered Bronze 2010 Edition of 3 64 x 40.5 x 31 cm / 163 x 103 x 78 cm 82 83

49 Mark Evans Mark Evans is an incredibly talented London-based artist who has embraced leather as a new sculpting medium, etching with blades to create a truly stunning effect. Evans started his artistic career in early childhood. Born in the Welsh countryside, he was given his first knife by his grandfather when he was seven and used it to carve images into the bark of trees around the farm. After studying fine art in London, and dedicating his time to more conventional materials such as charcoals, oils, and acrylics, he came back to carving in a happy mistake. It was pre-millennium and there was a digital revolution in the air, the YBA had exploded onto the British art scene. I was told by my professor that painting is dead all this was going on around me, but I couldn t shake my childhood primal desire to play with knives. I was trying to clean a blood stain off a new leather jacket I scratched through the blood into the surface of the jacket, right into the suede or the nap. That tiny etched patch of contrast in the leather suddenly became my own Archimedes eureka moment, as if an explosion went off in my mind. I saw a world of possibilities. Born on March 13, 1959 in York, England, Young enrolled at the Chester Art College and the Exeter College of Art and Design, where he studied graphic design, drawing, film, and photography. He moved to London to work as a commercial photographer, taking numerous pictures of musicians at live clubs shows of bands like Bauhaus, R.E.M., and the Smiths. In 1986, he shot the iconic cover for George Michael s Faith album. As his focus on celebrity portraiture grew, Young relocated to Los Angeles to direct music videos and, in the 1990s, he began to move away from photography to follow an interest in painting. He settled in New York in the late 1990s, capturing the attention of the art world in 2003 with his Pig Portraits, a series of celebrity mugshots commenting on the disadvantages of fame. A fan of the Pop Art pioneer Andy Warhol, Young currently uses a press once owned by Warol. He currently lives and works between California and New York.
