Crochet your favorite Star Trek character in three easy steps! 1. Use the Basic Doll Pattern to create the head, body and arms of your character. 2. Complete the general finishing steps. These steps are the same for all characters. 3. Continue onto character-specific details for your chosen character. Please review the notes on page 2 before beginning. I recommend worsted- or aran-weight yarn in these colors: dark red, burgundy, charcoal, gold, light brown, dark brown, blond, striping orange, orange, teal, black, and various skin tone colors. If desired, you can work these patterns in continuous rounds, rather than joining and chaining after each round. The instructions are written for joining, but feel free to use whichever method you are most comfortable with! Polyester Fiberfill Stuffing (available at any local craft store) Plastic Safety Eyes, 6mm, black (2 per doll) Embroidery floss and/or crochet thread, black, silver and gold Yarn needle (for sewing in ends) 2

3 Head (Use for all dolls except Quark) Rnd 1) In desired skin color, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 6 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (6) Rnd 2) *sc inc* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (12) Rnd 3) *sc inc, sc* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (18) Rnds 4-7) 18 sc. Join and ch 1. (18) Insert the eyes into the 8 th and 12 th stitches of round 5, so that there are 3 sc stitches between the eyes. Rnd 8) *sc dec, sc* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (12) Carefully stuff the head, but do not overstuff! Rnd 9) *sc dec* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (6) Rnd 10) 6 sc. Change to uniform color A. Join and ch 1. (6) Head (Use for Quark) Rnd 1) In desired skin color, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 6 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (6) Rnd 2) *sc inc* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (12) Rnd 3) *sc inc, sc* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (18) Pause here. Fold this crocheted piece in half to form a half circle. The sides showing will be the side that will end up being inside the doll. With a yarn needle and a separate strand of yarn in the same color, carefully make a few stitches along this fold. This will give Quark his lumpy head. Tie tight. You can leave the loose ends free, since these will be hidden inside the doll. Continue on to the rest of the head. Rnds 4-9) 18 sc. Join and ch 1. 4 Insert the eyes into the 8 th and 12 th stitches of round 6, so that there are 3 sc stitches between the eyes. Rnd 10) *sc dec, sc* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (12) Carefully stuff the head, but do not overstuff! Be careful to place stuffing in each lump at the top of the head. In addition to the extra stitches made after rnd 3, this will help to give Quark s head a good lumpy shape. Rnd 11) *sc dec* - repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (6) Rnd 12) 6 sc. Change to uniform color A. Join and ch 1. (6) Body (Use for all DS9 dolls except Odo, Quark, and Kira) Rnd 11) In uniform color A, *sc inc* - repeat 6 times. Change to uniform color B. Join and ch 1. 6 Finishing Steps Complete For All Characters Use the tail end of the yarn and a yarn needle to sew closed the opening at the base of the body. Use the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle to carefully sew the arms onto the body between rounds 11 and 12. Weave in all ends for the head, body and arms of the doll. Use a 6 strand of grey or silver yarn and a yarn needle to carefully embroider the Star Trek insignia onto the Starfleet doll s uniform. See photos for placement if necessary. Weave in ends. Use a 6 strand of gold crochet thread/embroidery floss and a yarn needle to carefully embroider on the Bajoran insignia onto Odo and Kira s uniforms. See photos for placement if necessary. Weave in ends. Use a strand of yarn in uniform color C and a yarn needle to embroider a short spike from the front-center of the doll s neck down two stitches. Then use a strand of yarn in uniform color A to embroider on either side of the uniform color C spike. This creates the illusion of an undershirt beneath the outer uniform. Weave in ends. See photos for placement if necessary. Use another strand of yarn in uniform color C and a yarn needle to embroider around the edges of the sleeves. Weave in ends. See photos for placement if necessary. Use a strand of dark green yarn to embroider on a green collar for Quark. Weave in ends. Use a strand of yarn and a yarn needle to embroider on any eyebrows (use skin tone for Odo s eyebrows), eyelashes or any other desired facial features. Continue onto the character-specific sections of this document to finish the finer details of your doll, such as hair and additional features, such as Dax s spots or Kira s earring. 6

7 Beard: Use a yarn needle and a strand of black yarn to embroider on the beard. See photos for placement if necessary. Weave in ends. 7

8 Hair: Rnd 1) In dark brown, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 7 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (7) Rnd 2) *sc inc* - repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (14) Rnd 3) *sc inc, sc* - repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (21) Rnds 4-6) 21 sc. Join and ch 1. (21) Rnd 7) 7 sc, hdc, 3 dc inc, hdc, sl st, hdc, 7 sc. Fasten off. (24) 8

9 Bajoran Earring: Cut a strand of gold embroidery thread. Wrap the thread around itself to make a small loop. Tie with a square knot so that you still have a loop. This creates an earring loop with two tail ends of thread. Using a yarn needle, bring one tail end through a stitch near where the earring should go. Then take both ends and tie them together with a square knot, fastening the earring to the doll s head. Now use your yarn needle to pull the leftover tail ends of the embroidery thread through the body of the doll. Trim any ends that stick out of the doll s body (they should just disappear inside the body of the doll). 9

10 Hair: Rnd 1) In blond (if you re looking for a good color, I recommend Lion Brand Heartland yarn in Grand Canyon), make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 7 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (7) Rnd 2) *sc inc* - repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (14) Rnd 3) *sc inc, sc* - repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (21) Rnds 4-6) 21 sc. Join and ch 1. (21) Rnd 7) 7 sc, hdc, sl st, sc, sc inc, sc, sl st, hdc, 7 sc. Fasten off. (22) Use the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle to carefully sew the hair piece onto the doll s head. 11 Bajoran Uniform Shoulder Details: Row 1) In uniform color B, ch 15. Starting in the 2 nd chain space from the hook, 14 sc. Ch 1 and turn. (14) Rows 2-3) 14 sc. Ch 1 and turn. (14) Row 4) hdc dec, hdc, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, 4 hdc, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, hdc, hdc dec. Ch 1 and turn. (12) Row 5) sc dec, 8 sc, sc dec. Fasten off and weave in ends. (10) Use a strand of yarn in uniform color B and a yarn needle to sew the piece onto the doll s body so that it cannot be removed. Weave in ends. 11

Fasten off(24) Continue to work the ponytail, which is worked row-by-row. Row 8) Insert your hook into the 23 rd stich of rnd 7 of the main hair piece. Pull up a loop of dark brown yarn and ch 1. Then work 3 sc. Ch 1 and turn. Row 9) sc inc, sc, sc inc. Ch 1 and turn. (5) Row 10) sc dec, sc, sc dec. Ch 1 and turn. (3) Rows 11-13) 3 sc. Ch 1 and turn. (3) Row 14) sc3tog. Fasten off. (1) Use a strand of yarn in uniform color C and wrap it around where the base of the pony tail meets the main hair piece. Weave in ends. Use the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle to carefully sew the whole hair piece onto the doll s head. Weave in ends. 13

14 Spots: Use a long strand of black embroidery thread and a yarn needle to carefully embroider on Dax s spots. See photos for placement if necessary. Weave in ends. 14

15 Hair: Rnd 1) In tan, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 7 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (7) Rnd 2) *sc inc* - repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (14) Rnd 3) *sc inc, sc* - repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (21) Rnds 4-6) 21 sc. Join and ch 1. (21) Rnd 7) 7 sc, hdc, sl st, sc, sc inc, sc, sl st, hdc, 7 sc. Fasten off. (22) Use the tail ends of the yarn and a yarn needle to carefully sew the hair piece onto the doll s head. Weave in ends. Use a piece of Velcro to gently frizz up the doll s hair be careful not to nick the face or eyebrows! 15

16 Lobes (Make 2): Rnd 1) In skin tone color, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 5 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (5) Rnd 2) *sc inc* - repeat 4 times, then sl st. Join to the beginning of the rnd and ch 5. Fasten off. (9 + 5 ch) Use the tail end of your yarn and a yarn needle to sew the lobes to Quark s head. Sew the ch 5 piece from rnd 2 above the eyes, placing the Magic Circle part of the lobe off to the side of the head. See photos for placement if necessary. Weave in ends. 16

17 Jacket: Row 1) In uniform color A, ch 15. Starting in the 2 nd chain space from the hook, 17 sc. Ch 1 and turn. (14) Rows 2-3) 14 sc. Ch 1 and turn. (10) Use a strand of yarn in uniform color A and a yarn needle to sew the piece onto the doll s body so that it cannot be removed. Weave in ends.
