1 Amiririsu Scarf by Janine Le Cras knotions.com/issues/october-2016/pattern-october-2016/amiririsu-scarf-janine-le-cras/ knotions 10/7/2016 Named for the Japanese version of the Amaryllis that in the Japanese Flower language of Hanakotoba means shy, this scarf was inspired by a book of Japanese stitch patterns and is loosely based on a previous pattern of mine Blowsey Ruffles, but with more lace and more ruffles! This pattern is quite challenging with lace on RS and WS rows, but this is offset by working on larger yarn and needles. Knitted in two halves and grafted or three needle bound off at the center, the scarf can be as long or as short as you wish. The perfect gift knitting because although it is complicated lace, the fact that it is knitted in a heavier yarn means that it grows quickly! Size One size. Sample show is 8 (20cm) wide by 70 (175cm) long. If you wish to knit a longer scarf please be sure to buy extra yarn. Pattern Notes This pattern is worked in two sections which are then joined together by grafting or a three needle bind off It is worked flat and has increases and decreases on right and wrong side rows Charts Or see written directions below. Border Center Scarf Using a cable cast on and US#8 (5mm needles) on cast on 97 sts. Work the border using either the written or charted instructions. If using the chart rep the outlined portion 9 times total. Change to the center instructions and using either the written version or the chart work the instructions 7 times total. Rows 1 and 2 of the instructions for the center are set up rows and should only be worked at the start of the first pattern rep. Start all following repeats at row 3. Finishing Place the first piece of knitting back onto a needle and either graft the two halves together using Kitchener stitch or use a three needle bind off. About the Designer Janine Le Cras I learned to knit at my grandmother knee at the ages of about 7 and knitted right through school and up until my children got to an age where they refused to wear hand knits. I started knitting again seriously, about 8 years ago after a hiatus of about 10 years. Then I discovered the online knitting community. Knitting on a small island in the middle of the English Channel can be rather lonely. Thanks to the Internet I have rediscovered my knitting mojo, learned to spin, acquired a stash ( both yarn and fibre) bought a wheel and started designing in earnest not necessarily in that order. Since then I have been fortunate enough to have designs accepted by several publishers. I have designed for Magknits, Knotions, and Yarn Forward and have had patterns published in several books including Knitting in the Sun, The Joy of Sox, and Sock Club. I enjoy a wonderful working relationship with the Girls at the Unique Sheep and have designed several things showcasing their yarns including our ongoing series of lace shawls Mystery KALs inspired by classic children s books. So far we have done The Secret Garden and The Enchanted Wood, Moonfleet, Through the Looking Glass, Phoenix and the Carpet, Jungle Book, The Little Prince, The Little Mermaid, Treasure Island, Watership Down, Peter Pan, Wind in the Willows, Oliver Twist, The Snow Queen, Once and Future King and A Wrinkle in Time, Heidi and next up is the Velteteen Rabbit! 5/5
