1 Required Tools: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS At Air-Handler Location Regular Flathead Screw Driver = for thermostat wall plate Mini Flathead Screw Driver = for wire screws Get Started! Small pliers = to better handle wires, if needed Description: The Air Handler Unit is large metal box containing: 1) The Blower 2) Filter Racks 3) Heat and Cool Coils 4) Sound Damper that connects to the duct work of the Ventilation System. Location: The terminal block to install the HVAC-CHIP is located on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) inside the Air Handler Unit. In residential homes it is usually located at the garage for ground floor and at the attic for the first floor. In commercial building, it is typically located at the roof, with the compressor. Step 1 Turn OFF power to Heating/Cooling System by switching the breaker to OFF. Step 2 Use a screw driver to remove the screws and remove the front metal cover of the Air Handler. Step 3 Locate the Low Voltage (24V) Terminal Block which is usually on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) right behind the metal cover.

2 Step 4 Take a photo or make a sketch of the terminal block connection. Make sure the photo or sketch is clear and readable. This will help you to reference how to reattach your wires. Step 5 Determine if the HVAC is a Heat-Pump or a Conventional (Normal) HVAC. Note: If there is a wire connection to O or B terminal you have a Heat-Pump HVAC. If there is no O or B terminal present OR if there is no wire connected to the O or B terminal, then the HVAC is a Conventional (Normal) type. Note: If you have a Conventional HVAC continue following instructions here at Step 6 Note: If you have a Heat Pump HVAC, continue following instructions at Step 9

3 Step 6 For Conventional HVAC Air Handler Wire: Use a small screw driver to loosen the wire screws on the following terminals and connect the HVAC-CHIP s wires to the terminals step by step: 1. Loosen the Y terminal screw, and add HVAC-CHIP s Yellow wire to that Y terminal, with the Yellow terminal wire. 2. Loosen the W terminal screw, and add the HVAC-CHIP s White wire to that W terminal, with that White terminal wire. 3. Loosen the R terminal screw, and add the HVAC-CHIP s Red wire to that R terminal, with the Red terminal wire. 4. Loosen the C terminal screw, and add the HVAC-CHIP s Brown wire to that C terminal, with the Common terminal wire (black or brown in color). 5. Loosen the G terminal screw, remove the Green terminal wire, and replace it by connecting the HVAC-CHIP s Green wire to that G terminal. This is the only wire in this terminal. 6. Take the Green terminal wire and the HVAC-CHIP s Gray wire and wire-nut them together, as seen in the picture above. Step 7 Double check the following: 1. Both the Yellow wire from the HVAC-CHIP and the existing Yellow wire of the Conventional HVAC are connected to this Y terminal. 2. Both the White wire from the HVAC-CHIP and the existing White wire of the Conventional HVAC are connected to this W terminal. 3. Both the Red wire from the HVAC-CHIP and the existing Red wire of the Conventional HVAC are connected to this R terminal. Note: If there is a jumper between R and Rc make sure the jumper stays in place. 4. Both the Brown wire from the HVAC-CHIP and the Common wire of the Conventional HVAC are connected to this C terminal. 5. Only the Green wire from the HVAC-CHIP is connected to this G terminal.

4 Step 8 Reattach the Air Handler metal cover. Installation Completed. Please verify that all wires are connected correctly before turning the power ON. Now refer to your HVAC-CHIP TEST INSTRUCTIONS Manual Note: If you have a Heat Pump HVAC continue following instructions here at Step 9 Step 9 Installation for Heat Pump here: For Heat Pump Air Handler wiring: Use a small screw driver to loosen the wire screws on the following terminals and connect the HVAC-CHIP wires to the terminals step by step: 6. Loosen the Y terminal screw, and add the HVAC-CHIP s Yellow wire to that Y terminal, with the Yellow terminal wire. 7. Loosen the R terminal screw, and add the HVAC-CHIP s Red wire to that R terminal, with the Red terminal wire. 8. Loosen the C terminal screw, and add the HVAC-CHIP s Brown wire and the White HVAC- CHIP wire to that C terminal, with the Common terminal wire (black or brown in color). 9. Loosen the G terminal screw, remove the Green terminal wire, and replace it by connecting the HVAC-CHIP s Green wire to that G terminal. This is the only wire in this terminal.

5 10. Take the Green terminal wire and the HVAC-CHIP s Gray wire and wire-nut them together, as seen in the picture above. Step 10 Double check the following: 11. Both the Yellow wire from the HVAC-CHIP and the existing Yellow wire of the Heat Pump HVAC are connected to this Y terminal. 12. Both the Red wire from the HVAC-CHIP and the existing Red wire of the Heat Pump HVAC are connected to this R terminal. Note: If there is a jumper between R and Rc make sure the jumper stays in place. 13. Both the Brown wire from the HVAC-CHIP, the White wire from the HVAC-CHIP, and the Common wire of the Heat Pump HVAC are connected to this C terminal. Note: There should be three wires, the Brown wire and White wire of the HVAC-CHIP, and the Common Wire of the Heat Pump HVAC are connected in this C terminal 14. Only the Green wire from the HVAC-CHIP is connected to this G terminal. Step 11 Reattach the Air Handler metal cover Installation Completed.
