2 WELCOME It is our pleasure to welcome you to the American Forest & Paper Association s (AF&PA s) 2017 Presidents Forum. We are glad that you have joined us in Georgia. Presidents Forum is our industry s annual opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and provide direction to the association for the year ahead. You will have the opportunity to hear experts share their thoughts on how our industry can capitalize on the disruption and transformation taking place in business and politics. We appreciate your insights and look forward to determining the best courses of action to accomplish our shared objectives. In addition, we will provide updates on AF&PA s 2017 accomplishments thus far; recognize our 2017 Sustainability Award winners; and hold our November board meeting, annual meeting and PAC Thank You breakfast. Mary Anne Hansan will talk about new Paper & Packaging How Life Unfolds ads and the campaign s progress in building awareness and preference for paper among consumers and customers alike. 2:30-2:45pm BREAK 2:45-5:30pm Reynolds Ballroom AF&PA Board of Directors Meeting All registrants encouraged to attend The board will approve the 2018 association budget and work plan, in addition to other business. 5 SPEAKERS Kimberley Strassel Journalist, The Wall Street Journal Kimberley Strassel is a member of the editorial board for The Wall Street Journal, where she writes editorials and the weekly Potomac Watch political column. Before assuming her current position in 2005, she worked for the Journal in New York and for The Wall Street Journal Europe in London and Brussels. A 2014 Bradley Prize recipient, Strassel is a regular contributor to Sunday political television shows and the author of The Intimidation Game: How the Left Is Silencing Free Speech. Dr. Tom Krause Chairman and Partner, Krause Bell Group Dr. Tom Krause is a renowned thought leader on the psychology of management and employee behavior, safety, manmade disasters, accidents and near-misses in a wide variety of workplace, health care and environmental settings. As chairman and partner at Krause Bell Group, he leads innovation groups, delivers talks and hosts discussions with subject-matter experts to bring new insights into safety performance improvement. Bruce Mehlman Founder, Mehlman Castagnetti Rosen & Thomas Bruce Mehlman is one of Washington, D.C. s top political advisors. A founding partner of his bipartisan firm, he has been a leader in our nation s capital for nearly two decades, helping Fortune 500 companies and innovative start-ups understand, anticipate and navigate the public policy environment and trends likely to impact the global marketplace. He concurrently serves as executive director of the Technology CEO Council and co-chairman of the Internet Innovation Alliance. Previously, Mehlman was assistant secretary of commerce for technology policy; policy director and general counsel to the House Republican Conference; and general counsel to the National Republican Congressional Committee. Senator Saxby Chambliss Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) served in the U.S. Senate from 2003 to 2015 and, before that, in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to Throughout his legislative career, he has been recognized numerous times by the public and private sectors for his work on agriculture, defense, budget and national security issues, which includes serving as chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; as vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence; and as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Rules Committee. Ken Kuykendall Tax Services Leader, PwC Ken Kuykendall is a partner in the Washington National office of PwC, a deputy tax leader for the firm responsible for PwC s tax services, and the leader of PwC s national tax services practice. He has over 24 years of tax experience working with large multinational corporations to address issues across a broad spectrum of taxation. Kuykendall is a specialist in the area of financial reporting for taxes and previously served as the director of taxation for a Fortune 500 company. Mary Anne Hansan President, Paper and Packaging Board Mary Anne Hansan has spent over 30 years in a wide range of marketing and communications positions that include advertising, public relations, social media and issues management. Prior to joining the Paper and Packaging Board as its first president, she worked on numerous industry campaigns, including the National Fisheries Institute s national marketing campaign Tuna the Wonderfish; the American Chemistry Council s Essential 2 campaign; the American Plastics Council s awardwinning Plastics Make It Possible advertising campaign; and the floral industry s Think Flowers national check-off campaign. Will Novy-Hildesley Executive Director, North American Forest Partnership Will Novy-Hildesley has extensive experience with the forest sector, developing new initiatives, and leading multi-stakeholder brand initiatives that bridge for-profit/ non-profit and government. Before joining the North American Forest Partnership, he served as founder and CEO of Quicksilver Foundry, a strategic planning and branding firm whose recent clients include the Department of Defense, Intel, Deloitte/Monitor, Social Venture Partners, Vistage and The Society of American Foresters. Prior to that, he worked at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the World Wildlife Fund.
