Call to Order The meeting was called to order by President Julie Jacobson. Jane Aalborg and Mary Lou Fredrickson were thanked for organizing the social time refreshments. She thanked the Advisory Future Planning committee for serving as greeters during coffee & conversation. Approval of Minutes Minutes were approved as sent.

2 Report from the Lied Center, Bill Stephan, Executive Director Bill congratulated the Friends of Lied Board for the 1000 member goal accomplishment for Friends of Lied. He stated that this accomplishment was an exciting pathway to more programming. He listed upcoming performances stating that there had been five performances in eight days. Bill told the Board that BBC conductor Lockhart had held a Master Class for Graduate Conducting students at UNL with great success. He stated that ticket sales were currently on budget for the year. Bill announced an upcoming ASCAP Broadway Festival planned for next season. This will be a festival of Commissioned works. There will be a panel of experts providing comments to composers and there could potentially be Broadway theater producers attending. The event will have accompanying workshops. The top two or three commissions may have Lied help in the development toward future commercial theater productions, perhaps ultimately Broadway. Bill asked that if there were board members who might be interested in being involved in this project, to contact Petra or Bill. In a different vein, Bill spoke of a project called Hayseed which will combine music with agriculture including the humor of Susan Warner. Bill stated that there are website updates and enhancements being considered at present. Treasurer's Report Nancy Thorson and Linda Hoegemeyer Cash Balance as of 1/27/13 if $62,800. CD balance as of 1/27/13 is $200,000. Profit and Loss as of 1/27/13 is $50,200. The Audit for the year is concluded. There was an amount of $23,600 which was accidently entered into 2011 numbers instead of 2012 numbers. This error has been rectified and a safety placed to avoid a future error such as this. President's Report Julie Jacobson Julie stated that a historical Giving Analysis done by Marissa Gill Keyzer, Lied Development officer had been ed to Board members. She thanked Marissa for this report. She also thanked board members for forwarding the Lied One Day Ticket sale information to family and friends. The One Day Sale generated an additional $40,000+ new revenue for the Lied Center. On the subject of Member

3 press bio releases, Julie stated that Matthew, Lied Marketing Department, had confirmed that these releases had been sent to communities by University Press on Monday, February 11. He also proposed a release announcing our 1000 member goal celebration for the 2012 Membership Drive. With regard to last month's meetings - Julie responded to the Friends of Lied Board small group discussions by thanking Tammi Gotschall and Kris Baack for organizing and summarizing the results of questionnaires from these meetings. She thanked hosts Carol Zink, Kandy Denker, Sandi Brune, Tammi Gotschall and Linda Schroeder. There were 46 Board members who participated in this meeting. Some of the issues addressed in these meetings were the following: increased social interaction, Improving New Member Orientation, Evaluating number of committees and number of officers on the board. Each of these items is being addressed in various ways through committees or through the Executive Board. Committees may be changed without a bylaws change. Structure changes in the Executive Board do require a bylaws change. President Elect Kris Baack No Report VP Administration Heidi Macy There was a short discussion to address technical issues regarding Donor management, reservation, RSVP, and TI invitations. VP Education Carol Zink The retreat for 2013 will be in Hastings at Hastings College on September 11 th. Colleen Werner and Cheryl Lockwood's committee announced that the topic of the retreat will be Difference Makers. There will be an upcoming flyer announcing motivational speakers, mixers and tours. The Education Outreach Committee had a meeting with Petra Wahlqvist, Associate Administrative Director of the Lied, to update Arts Across Nebraska. There are three different programs offered with differing fees. The fees go from $750 for Donna Baddley to $2000 for What the Wind Taught Me. The third selection is Celtic Cabaret with a fee of $1000. The goal for this committee is to secure 10 or more communities

4 becoming involved with these productions across a large geographic area of the state. VP Fundraising Liz Kuhlmann Lisa Froehlich and Cori Amend, co-chairs for next year's Gala (2014) are working hard to set up committee chairs, and initial planning agenda's for this upcoming event. The date confirmed is February 1, Table Inspirations planning continues. Doreen gave planning updates. The raffle tickets and Mini Designing sessions are completed. Raffle tickets were distributed to the board for pre-sale. Additional tickets are available. Additional tickets may be requested from the committee. Tickets and money should be returned at the March Board meeting. April 16 will be the set-up day. Doreen asked for additional help in some areas, both setting up and manning areas during the event. VP Membership (2012) Mary Raimondo/(2013) Georgianne Master/(2014) Mary Lou Fredrickson. The membership totals for the years met our goal of 1000 members contributing a total of $270, In celebration, Mary was given a beautiful bouquet in honor of her accomplishment and the entire board enjoyed lovely valentines' sugar cookies from Julie. In addition, the board members each received gold circle passes courtesy of Marissa. Kristi Scheele's name was drawn by Bill, Ann, and Julie at a reception on January 18, 2013, to be presented with passes to the Gold Circle Suite and with Valet service. The end of the year brought in additional memberships thanks to the artistic layout and planning of Marissa and Kira. Georgianne announced that the membership goal for season will be 1050 memberships with a revenue goal of $290,000. Materials for Friends of Lied brochures and packets are nearing readiness for distribution. Materials will be submitted to the printer by the end of February. The current excel spreadsheet for the mailing has 105 names on it. The stuffing party will be Tuesday, March 5 th. The membership meeting is scheduled as a reception on May 8 th, 2013, at 5:00 pm. This is the evening following the noon Spring Luncheon meeting.

5 VP Social Activities Kandy Denker Kandy thanked the Arrangement Committee for the successful Staff Appreciation Luncheon in December. There were thirty-nine in attendance. She also thanked the PPD committee, under the chairmanship of Sheryl Thomsen for the successful Church Basement Ladies dinner. She itemized the costs of this dinner concluding that the total cost per person attending was $24.70 and the price charged was $ Since the expenses were under budget at 51 attendees, there was a slight profit made. The PPD committee for Elvis then provided a motivational skit. The cost of this dinner will be $ The committee is hoping to add numbers of participants with this lower meal cost. VP Omaha Susan Goll No report. Corresponding Secretary Nancy Diekmann One sympathy card was mailed to Robin McKelvey following the death of her mother. Another Courtesy dues check was received by Nancy Thorson for Sue Arganbright. Recording Secretary Mary Goldberg No report Advisor Bev Austin The nominating committee is hard at work and will present the Executive Board slate and the selection of new board members at the February Executive Committee meeting. Lieder Editors Sylvia Person and Margaret Small Deadline for the spring Lieder issue is February 15 th. It will be mailed March 15 th. Lieder Liaison Donna Seefeld No report

6 Unfinished Business New Business Nancy Thorson, representing the finance committee, proposed the following motion: "I move that the Friends of Lied give to the Lied Center for Performing Arts an unrestricted gift of $40,000 to be used where needed most, with some portion to be used for children's education programs, if possible." The motion was seconded by Mary Goldberg. There was no discussion and the motion passed unanimously.
