1 Next Station University: How the inspired few inspires our entire company (Hong Kong, 8 November 2013) At HKBN, we do not hesitate to over invest in individual Talents, as we believe those we inspired will in return inspire greatness in our entire company. As such, we are most pleased to offer development opportunities to Talents who are eager to seize the chance. Three and a half years ago, 33 HKBN Talents began their four-year journey as to achieve a university degree by joining the company-sponsored Next Station University program. While HKBN sponsors 80-90% of the HK$100,000 tuition for each student, it is our Talents themselves who instill 100% of their time and stamina in this four-year endurance test to win a Bachelor s Degree from University of Wales. Whilst their graduation is still five months away, these 33 champions are already inspiring the rest of our 2,600 Talents in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. GK Woo, an Analyst Programmer of IT team in Guangzhou, shows us how his persistent pursuit of his dream brings huge return on investment to his work, his family and HKBN. To take classes, GK travels to and fro between Guangzhou and Hong Kong every Saturday. 5 Appendix: A Win-Win-Win Program Reflections by GK Woo, Analyst Programmer, IT, HKBN Guangzhou Office Time flies. I can hardly believe that I have eventually come to the final stage of the fouryear Next Station University Program. I would like to thank my colleagues, supervisors and the Learning and Development Department for their support over the years. To me, the program is more than just a degree, but also invisible benefits to myself, my company, my colleagues as well my family. A win for me The Next Station University program is a golden opportunity for Talents like me who always dream of possessing a university degree. With the company s generous subsidy, we only need to pay 10% to 20% of the total tuition. Besides, the understanding and support from my fellow colleagues and supervisors enable me to balance work, study and family life. I work extremely hard to fulfill my university dream. A win for my company The comprehensive course design covers knowledge in many areas such as Finance, Sales, Marketing and Human Recourses, etc. Although I work in the IT field with my specialty in Computer Science, such knowledge is definitely helpful to the daily operation and departmental cooperation. Apart from the theories, lecturers share their practical experience in work with live examples related to our work to assist our understanding. I have great satisfaction when I can apply new knowledge to my work. When 33 student-talents from different department make improvements together, the overall quality and efficiency enhancements in the company are huge.

6 A win for people around me and my family Every time when I teach my son, who is studying in kindergarten, I cannot help applying the technique I learnt about feedback and encouragement in the class, which makes him easier to understand his strengths and weaknesses. A joy to see that managing skills are helpful at home! Sometimes, I also share what I have learnt with my wife Nancy, who works also at HKBN as a Sales Supervisor, and is an active participant in other learning and development programs. One day, she told me that the customer relationship management theory I shared with her, which she subsequently shared with her co-workers, successfully help resolve a work problem of a coworker. I was over the moon, and it felt like getting an A for my course work. At the company town hall meeting for all Talents last month, our Head of Talent Engagement and CFO, NiQ Lai, shared with us the Give and Take concept which keeps the company s and Talents benefits in optimized equilibrium. I think I am the greedy one who takes the knowledge I learnt from class not only for myself, but also for my loved ones.
