1 ICON ICON was set up in 1999 as a student body to provide the students with a flavour of real-life consulting assignments. In eight years, ICON has grown into an entity that commands respect among students and is commended by faculty as well as alumni. At ICON we try our best to enrich the IIMB experience for our peers by giving them the opportunity to work on challenging assignments, participate in exciting events on campus and most importantly, give aspiring consultants that much-needed helping hand to aid their preparation in gaining entry into the industry. With a revamped website and a host of new initiatives, ICON has been one of the most active student bodies this year. Here we present a snapshot of who we are and what we did in What s New?? Better projects in new sectors - Microfinance, Social Networking PROJECTS This year, ICON brought students the opportunity to work on several challenging projects ranging across industry sectors. For the first time exciting projects involving microfinance and financial modelling were floated. This was made possible primarily because of the active pitching undertaken by the ICON team to build relationships with the industry through alumni, professors and interns, and build a positive brand image of ICON as a consulting service provider for the industry. ICON projects in this academic year included: TooStep Consultancy: Ideation of a Business Networking Portal for TooStep Consultancy, a UK based startup by a 2004 alumnus of IIMB. Team Members: Divya Surana, Adeep Mathur, Saikat Datta, Pankaj Periwal and Praveen Krishnan. ICON Coordinators: Yogesh & Baishakhi Launch of Flagship Event at Vista Trojan Horse IIMB s first Consulting Handbook epicentre the Consult Newsletter Case Workshops NXP Semiconductors: Pre-Launch Strategy for an Online Media Delivery Platform for NXP Semiconductors, one of the top 10 semiconductor manufacturers in the world. Team Members: Prateek Gupta, Anirudh Singh, Vineet Aggarwal, Nitin Chowdhary and Sourav Das. ICON Coordinators: Yogesh & Ashwin MokshaYug Access: Validation of a financial model for a microfinance project prepared by MokshaYug Access (MYA), a rural infrastructure and services company with a primary focus on microfinance, and creation of a business plan to show VCs. Team Members: Ashwinikumar Patil, Sreekrishna Sankar and Ajith Pai. ICON Coordinators: Yogesh & Shaveen Home Theatre Solutions: Formulating a Business Plan for Home Theatre solutions including estimating the market potential and developing Go-To-Market Strategies. Team Members: Sahil Barua, Neetu Chitkara, Amlan Chaudhary, Shyam U and Shiladitya Das. ICON Coordinators: Akhilesh & Vishesh FRDC Ltd: A designing firm in the retail store design space, looking to expand its operations into other segments hired ICON to develop their 5 year business strategy, growth plan, and organizational design. Team Members: Karthik G, Shekar Gupta, Rahul Agarwal and Venkateshwaran. ICON Coordinators: Chinmaya & Geet Wealth management Project: Affluence Edifice, a leading wealth management firm in Bangalore, looking to develop a business plan and organizational strategy for expansion. The objective of this project is to re-design the organizational structure and a scalable business model for the client. Team Members: Akshay Kalgutkar, Gaurav Jain and Uma Avantsa. ICON Coordinators: Akhilesh Aayur Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd: Aayur Technology Solutions Private Limited is an integrated systems and solutions provider looking for developing a web enabled Platform for communities to get together and manage their pre-fixed Vehicle Pooling and Dynamic transportation requirements. Team Members: Rahul Arya, Soumya P and Hitesh Tak. ICON Coordinators: Yogesh and Vishesh WisdomTap: The company is a startup in the niche domain of context based search and is looking to design the future strategy for the company by evaluating the existing trends in this domain and analyzing the social networking and mobile applications domains. 2 ICON Page 2 Events Trojan Horse At Vista 2007, ICON launched its flagship strategy event - Trojan Horse, which became an immediate hit across campuses. The event attracted participation from 116 teams from institutes across the country. The tagline for the case used in first stage of the game - 'What should Puneet Dalmia do?' still brings a smile on the face of anyone who had a go at the case. The simulation game played as a part of the later stages was loved by all for the sheer thrill it generated. In coming years, the game has the potential of becoming one of the most popular games in Vista. General s Gambit This IT strategy game sponsored by CTS has been a huge success year after year at Vista. This year too the game attracted participation in huge numbers and has been hailed as one of the most successful spot-registration games of Vista 2007 Numero Uno ICON played a key role in Numero Uno - the flagship event of Vista 07 - by actively assisting the FII team in conceptualizing and designing the first module of the game that tested the participants creativity, innovation and ability to strategise using a video case study P&G Workshop P&G conducted its strategy workshop and game which attracted huge participation from students - at it gave them the chance to win highly attractive prizes and the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of one of the most preferred recruiters on campus! AT Kearney Case workshop One of the most successful initiatives taken by ICON in the year - helping students understand the nitty-gritties of case-interview. Greatly appreciated by the students for being a useful and thoroughly enjoyable workshop

3 Page 3 ICON Initiatives Consulting Handbook ICON published the first ever consulting handbook at IIMB to aid students understand what a career in consulting means, what it takes to get that elusive shortlist in consulting firms, how to prepare for a case-interview and what kind of projects you may do in the industry. The book was loved by the students and also greatly commended by alumni in consulting firms. epicentre - The ICON Newsletter For the first time in IIMB, a consulting newsletter was launched. This time we gave IIMB students an opportunity to publish their articles alongside those of leading consultants from AT Kearney. Consult interview preparation ICON played a key role in the preparation of the both the senior and junior batches for consult interviews by arranging mock interviews, and by providing information on the website regarding consulting companies that recruit from campus, what happened at company PPTs and also downloadable resources including a Minimal Consult Primer

4 ICON Team Akhilesh Sharma is a B.Tech. in Information Technology from IIIT Allahabad. He worked for 33 months with Infosys in the telecom domain as an offshore lead coordinating teams based in North America, China and India. He did his summer with Cognizant and developed the their entry strategy in Telecom Content Management. A computer engineer from Mumbai University, Ashwin worked in Infosys for 3.5 years out of which he spent 1.5 years in the US as an onsite coordinator. Before leaving for his MBA, he was the offshore lead for a team of 15 people. During his MBA, he has interned at Bloomberg LP in New York for 2 months. Ashwin loves reading science fiction and fantasy novels. Baishakhi Chowdhury graduated from Bengal Engineering College in She worked with Tata Consultancy Services for 5 years, coordinating teams from across the world including US, Australia and Europe. She did her summer internship at the IBD of ABN Amro, Hong Kong, where she worked as a sector coverage banker. Chinmaya worked for 2.5 years with NTPC in power plant operations. He consulted an MNC on the power growth in India and the Kerala Govt on its power reforms program. He interned with ICICI, London, in Corporate & IBD, where he syndicated acquisition financing loans coordinating with banks in Europe, Asia & Middle East. Kartik Suresh is an Electronics Engineer from NIT, Allahabad. He has worked in the IT sector for 22 months with Cognizant. He gained further insights about the working of financial industry while interning at Morgan Stanley, Mumbai. Kartik has coordinated several projects across - marketing to business plan development to data analytics. Yogesh Patwari graduated in commerce from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. A fresher before coming to IIMB, he interned with Citibank during summers. As a senior coordinator of the ICON team, he has coordinated projects for start-ups and organizations across industry sectors like telecommunications, social networking etc. He was also the treasurer for the club.

5 Aarthi Krishnan is a computer science engineer from the University of Madras. She worked as a Project Engineer for 2 years with HCL Technologies and then joined CSS Private Ltd as a Business Analyst for their Business Consulting Group in Chennai. She worked there for half a year before joining IIM Bangalore. Aditya Kasyap is a graduate in Electronics from BITS, Pilani. Having worked in Evalueserve, Gurgaon for 2 years as a Senior Research Associate and Project Manager in Intellectual Property Services, Aditya has expertise in Project Management and Execution in various industry sectors such as Electronics, Telecom, Software, and Chemicals. Geet Bhanawat graduated in Computer Science & Engineering from IIT Bombay in He joined Inductis in 2003 and worked extensively in financial services practice. He has advised a number of large fortune 500 firms on risk management, retention strategy and pricing strategy. He is a regular long distance runner and enjoys playing Squash. Ritu Mittal did bachelors in Computer Science from Delhi College of Engineering in Prior to coming to IIMB, she worked as Lead Member Technical Staff at Mentor Graphics. She was a part of the Semiconductor Industry for a period of 5 years and has worked for clients such as Nokia, TI, Toshiba, Intel, Infineon and Alcatel. Sarbjeet Kaur Atwal is a computer engineer from the Mumbai University. She worked for a year with Stratagem Media as a Media Planner and Analyst and then joined the consulting arena as a Research Executive with Feedback Business Consulting Services, where she worked for another year before joining IIM B. Shaveen Garg graduated in Computer Science & Engineering from IIT Bombay in Prior to IIMB, he worked for three years at Inductis, an analytics driven management consulting firm, in risk management and marketing for various industries including Credit Card, Insurance and Private Equity. Vishesh Tayal did bachelors in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi in Before joining IIMB, he worked with Inductis in credit card domain and has assisted a global credit card issuer in account management and information management. He also managed publicity for IIT Delhi festival, TRYST2003.
