3 Minto Alaska The 1 st petition for Inc. had 38 signatures in May 1, Minto was established December 30, During 1 st election 1 women could read and write(grace Riley). Minto moved from it s old location in tribal members lived in Minto last year +500 tribal members overall

5 Nomadic People People came together once in awhile. BIA school begun to keep women and children in Old Minto. Peter John was born in late 1800 s. Peter spoke of ol time way in his life time.

8 Keith Charlie Tribally enrolled in Minto. Married for 6 years with 3 kids. Sober for 7 years. Serving second term on the village council.

10 Team Work Is Priceless I ve learned from coaching the value of team work and trust. Developing and building confidence. Taking the wins and losses and keep working at it. Believing in the greater good.

11 Compounded Problems Cold weather in created other problems. Elder Luke Titus spoke of the problems in a community gathering. People couldn t afford to keep buying diesel to heat there houses, so people begun to burn wood which created another problem with Minto housing.

12 Motivation towards energy High oil prices=stressed people was my first term on the village council was the 4 th year of north slope crude prices to be sold at $100 per barrel.

17 ARENA 2017 January 2017 I was selected to participate. I was excited to have the opportunity to further my education in sustainable energy.

18 On-site in Canada Traveling to Canada taught me a lot about how similar Canada is to Alaska. We visited two first nations community s, Colville Lake and Lutselk e.

19 Canada s On-Site Visit We visited a Hydro The Dam was built in early 1900 s by minors It is now providing electricty for a near by community

20 In the Alaska visit we toured Chena Hot Springs, Kotzebue wind farm and Fairbanks Alaska Center for Energy and Power Alaska On-Site Visit

21 Single Phase to 3 Phase Minto is a part of Co-op electric utility The Co-op has 58 community s in Alaska Of the 58 community's only 4 are single phase

23 Minto Electrical Rates Minto is a Power Cost Equalization (PCE) eligible community PCE is an capital endowment set aside from oil revenue for people or non-profits in Alaska to supplement high fuel prices Minto uses about 606MWh/year At the current full rate Minto and PCE will pay $254,520 in deasil generated power for the year Curbing that cost can only be done in a partnership

24 ARENA I would suggest ARENA to anyone who wants to learn about how energy conservation is a common thread all throughout the world ARENA has opened my eyes to how similar problems and solutions can be address through networking and partnering with people with vested interest in energy
