Undoubtedly, application of the principles and methods of Quality management have played a significant role in their recovery of many organizations as well as enabled their future growth. The challenge now for Indian organisations is to raise the bar once again and lay claim to be the best across the world in one s own industry and domain. How to sustain the momentum and how to propel forward requires revisiting the fundamentals in a profound way, and finding ever newer means to achieve the goals. This year s conference brings to you the profound aspects of Quality management from an international viewpoint, with a rich array of speakers from Asia, Europe and the US. The opportunity is to grasp deeper aspects of quality, both in thinking and implementation, across different domains, in service and in manufacturing sectors. What it means to sustain excellence in quality will be brought out in a compelling presentation, based on research across a large number of organizations. Shining Indian experiences in promotion of a quality management system or practice will add value to the conference. Ashoka Award Recipient 2011 The ISQ Ashoka Award is meant for professionals who have contributed exceptionally to their country by leading their organizations in quality management with industry, humility and sincerity. This year s Ashoka Award is conferred upon Mr. VR Janardhanam, (Immediate Past) COO, Sundaram Brake Linings. Mr. V.R. Janardhanam Graduated from the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training in Calcutta, in Runner up to the President s Gold Medal. Chief Engineer at Shipping Corporation of India. Factory Manager at Sundaram Abex Ltd. (Now Sundaram Brake Linings SBL). Served SBL for 31 years, in various leadership positions as President, Senior President (Bus. Development Group), Mentor and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Led the Change Management Programme in SBL from its inception, spearheaded many new initiatives including experiments with Goal and Race concepts, Manufacturing System Redesign, TPM and Lean

These efforts won SBL the coveted Deming prize for the year National President of NIQR (National Institution for Quality and Reliability), instituting the cluster approach in Tier 3 suppliers in the SSI segment. As National Director UNIDO-ACT cluster, started new clusters in Jamshedpur and Pune, with nearly 50 SME involved overall in cluster activities, during his stewardship. Has presented papers in international forums including the ANQ Congress, on the cluster movement and vendor development, and has also written articles in local publications. Awarded special recognition for outstanding contribution as a Board Member, at the ANQ Congress, Korea, Conferred the Vocational Excellence Award by Rotary Club of Ambattur, Chennai in the year Is an active Rotarian and a Paul Harris fellow. He successfully led his organisation to win both the Deming Application Prize and the Japan Quality Medal from JUSE, both firsts for Indian organisations. Has spearheaded the promotion of cluster development in Indian industry through various national level bodies, led coordinator development and enabled transformation of the Indian automotive industry.
